You really are an inspiration to many of us Eric. The sound design, color, composition, etc in your recent videos have not gone unnoticed. Sending positive vibes now and always. I've heard climbers get stronger the older they get. Maybe it's just a rumor, but I can't wait to see you crush the boulders again, hehe. 🤪

I don't see this channel as not progressing, your videos are becoming better everytime you upload. The crew is amazing and I can say with confident that this is one of my top climbing channels in youtube for sure. Don't overwwork yourself, try to stay positive and I hope your health improve enough so you can achieve everything you want. Stay strong! Can't wait to see you trying hard in the next video!

Had no idea your health had made climbing so uncomfortable for you omg. I found this channel while you weren't climbing but never knew the background of why that was. Super glad you're feeling well enough to get back into it and excited for that next vid. Thank you for all the hard work and perseverance. We all are better for it. 🙏

Eric, I almost never hear people talk about the debilitating anxiety and struggle that often comes with hearing loss/tinnitus issues. I was diagnosed with meniere's disease 8 years ago which comes with constant/frequent hearing loss, tinnitus, and vertigo. I struggled for years to find coping mechanisms and with doctors who didn't grasp the anxiety that came along with these symptoms, especially when alone at night with nothing but silence, dizziness, and ringing. It is really just a battle of will to keep trying harder every day, and I thought I may never be able to do sports or make music again, but I have managed to find a way and keep improving. It takes a lot of inner strength to share and persevere as you have 👏
    Thanks for sharing

❤As a boulderer living with chronic fatigue, I really appreciate your honesty. It can be really hard to look like you're fit and healthy but know that you have some physical challenges. The advice that has worked best for me is "just don't give up". Can't imagine doing something you used to have the energy for? Be creative and invent new ways of getting the same or similar results. It's not easy, but we are climbers. Remember, we love challenges? Let's go!😀

Eric, your emotional availability is truly admirable. I fractured my skull soon after finding your channel and after finally getting back in the wall after that suffered a shoulder injury that further prevented me from living the life I wanted. Your videos and open communication about your health struggles have been a constant source of perspective and strength. Please continue to do what you have been doing these last years as the effort is well worth the benefit and is much appreciated by your audience.

I really see the improvements in your filming, videos after videos and was always fascinating about your style and way to tells us these short stories with a unique mood. The sound, the way of filming, the composition of the image, the reflexion about movement, tone, rhythm, all of that shows that you put a lot of effort in it. You got a real talent. I'm sorry for your health issues and I hope that it will get better and better. Thank you for being so honnest with us. Can't wait to see you crushing ! Ended up here from your video with Magnus. 3 years ago I had a seizure while sitting in the driver seat of my truck. Out of the blue, no past history, no real answers as to why. I was told it was a 70% chance I'd have another one in the next 3 months and a 90% chance of another one in the first year. Thankfully, it's yet to rear its ugly head once again. Fast forward to today I would say I'm perhaps the fittest I've been in most of my life, pursuing climbing photography and breaking new boundaries daily. Always with the lingering thought in the back of mind - "what if today's the day I have another one?" At the end of the day I'm sharing with you or anyone else who's maybe had some poor medical news as a reminder that in time, we get stronger, healthier and to just keep moving forward. Cheers and keep up the great work

Only just found this channel but I also had a sudden onset of tinnitus in one ear a few months ago.
I’m actually quite worried and the doctors have been useless, I have a referral finally to more sinus specialist doctors but all I’m doing atm is taking sudafed to help clear my inner ear as they reckon it’s blocked up. I haven’t had any sort of vertigo symptoms so it may just be a blocked inner ear, but wondered if anyone had experienced the same.
Can’t imagine what this guys been through, I got rlly depressed with just tinnitus itself. Big respect

I had my eardrum burst for a short amount of time a few months ago and I completely lost my balance, the whole world was spinning like I was blackout drunk. I was very lucky it fixed itself up in about 45 minutes or so but it made me realise how truly terrifying a loss of balance can be and how debilitating it could potentially be as a long term injury or illness. I'm super glad you're able to work around it and haven't let it completely break your drive to be creative. Your videos have a lot of value and I hope you keep making them for as long as you enjoy doing so

Having multiple passions and being open to new things is truly a blessing. If you discover some physical or health issue that stops you from doing one thing, you move onto the next. I suspect this is what life is like for most people. Eventually something happens that stops you from doing something (all together, or at your best). Have multiple passions, they are all backup plans to catch you and keep you going.

I'm really sorry to hear about your health issues. I've had vertigo now for a while that they don't know what the cause is. Best guess is I had an acute case of vertigo ~2 years ago where my brain stopped trusting my inner ears and started prioritizing my vision, and now the lingering vertigo is my brain still over-prioritizing my vision. So when something in my visual field happens unexpected I feel like I'm falling, but it's very short lived and I've never felt at risk of actually falling - it's just extremelyyyyy jarring for 3-5s.
So I can only imagine if it was constant 24/7 and impacting my ability to walk. One of the most frustrating things has been not having answers, so I hope you've found the answers you were looking for, and I pray you are fully on the path to recovery and resuming a normal life.
Keep up the great work, and as others have said it really is inspirational.

Right on brother. Coming from someone else who is inherently introspective and has had more waking time to think than most for their age (bad relationship with sleep), you are not alone. Mentally, it can be so difficult to fixate on something you love or simply want to improve at, learn everything you can, give it everything you have, only to break something or fall short seemingly every time. As you’ve clearly found as well, we can often get more out of those pursuits when we relax the standards we place on ourselves and find a better balance.
I’ve loved everything you’ve put out over the past three years. Your bigger projects have been unique in the space, and a lot of fun to watch your artistic expression in that format, HOWEVER, I feel exactly the same way with your standard indoor content. I’ll keep coming back as entertained as ever even if you never pick up another “big project”.

I remember the videos when Nikken was still a kid crusher, and from those days to now, the development of your own style that's immediately recognizable, the grading, the angles, the perspectives, and the musical choices, shows a great deal of progress. And on top of all that you managed to do this while struggling with your own battles, which is even more impressive! On to new heights, you got this!

I really appreciate your work and hope you are able to keep finding motivation for nice videos!
PS: you probaply may not remember it but we met in kletercentret three years ago and shared a session and we had a really good talk about video production and which ultimately led me to open up my own small channel which I really enjoy working with, so really thank you a lot for this!

I’ve been watching your channel since the beginning, I’ve always loved it and I think you started around the same time I started climbing so I’ve felt like your channel has always been part of my climbing journey. Such a shame what’s happened over the last few years but some of the greatest things achieved come from the darkest places so I hope this has only motivated you to create something truly special. My advice with videos would be that the one thing that’s missing from climbing videos is story. For me it’s exactly why the highest budget videos are expedition ones, in theory what they’re doing is fairly boring but most of the video is about building the suspense, the characters and identifying the different obstacles to overcome. I think if you could make a video about rock climbing that made you feel a part of a journey you’re going to have a cracker. I wish you all the best in the future and hope that this is just the beginning of something very special

Yusss! As someone who has been dealing with a lot of personal things (including finances, mental, and anxiety inducing life/health stuff) that have pulled me from climbing and my channel, I really appreciate this video. I can emphasize with the soul searching and appreciate that the focus away from climbing has lead to you honing in on your technical skills and craft. Normally I turn to your channel for climbing psych (and the focus on good filmmaking, of course), but I am happy for this update video and stoked to be able to see you climbing again and growing into bigger projects. Happy for you dude! Ride out this motivational spirit, don't get down when you hit setbacks, you got this. Let's go!

  • @hetistijmen

You've been an inspiration to me for a long time man. When I first got into climbing my health was bad enough that it influenced my work and what I got to do with my life, and I wasn't dealing well with it. Climbing helped with that, but also created its own struggles with my body giving out on me. Probably doesn't help that when I reach some goal my first thought tends to be that the goal was obviously too easy and I should've tried harder. Seeing you recover and be so open about the struggles along the way really helps me put stuff in perspective. Dave MacLeod also just released a video on his recovery from a surgery that touches on a lot of similar points.
Also, you don't need to climb hard to make good content. It's all V2 in our gym anyway. Your videos are at a level that entire teams have issues reaching and viewers, sponsors and other people in the field notice that. Your channel definitely screams quality over quantity. I guess what I'm saying is keep going at it at your own pace, you don't really owe us anything.

Glad to see your doing a bit better these days. Still great content, well made and fun.
Even without doing big projects you still make great videos. Some of my favorites are the ones with the crew hanging out and having a good time (old crew Tor, Kajsa, etc)(the videos in the park outdoor plastic). If your looking to add some variety to the videos you could always add in some technique demo/training, accessory training (gym work, how to, learn the basics), or fun drills on the wall and campus board. You could also do interviews with some of the crew like how did you start in climbing, whats your, goals, advice, etc. Or there's always the ever important how do you like your coffee question.
Even if your not climbing it is good to see you in front of the camera.

We like big project. But also i watched that channel the most during the daily video era. It was easygoing video. Not necesseraly video with a purpose. Not route setting. Not that i dont like those things, but it was juste video with friends that climb together. Felt easygoing and realatable.
Maybe other agree? Throwing the idea if you like it: maybe you could do 1 month of those daily video again. December could be nice, with end of the year vibe and would feel kind of a gift to the viewers too. Will be (except frequency) lower pressure to produce video.

I agree. My favorite videos are the ones with people just climbing and would be happy if this channel “only” produced those videos

I've really enjoyed the exploration you've been doing with videos lately. Been watching for years and have always enjoyed your approach to film making. Can't wait to see you try hard at climbing again and wherever the film making takes you!

Erik I've been watching you from the begining. You've made me a better climber, much being from your early video. Back here in Canada, I've talked to peoplle setting in my gym where i'm happy they saw your' channel to improve what I've been climbing on. I've struggled with myself with issue where it's hard to climb. But please continue your content. We love you a LLLot

Thanks for the update, hey as someone who had shoulder surgery and a 13 month rehab, I know its tough to come back, but it is possible, I am back doing one-arm pullups and front levers when the doctor's said I wouldn't even or shouldn't even do the basic dip again, anything is possible if you put your mind to it!

I'm sorry to hear what happened to you. I remember seeing many reports of loss of or damage to hearing as an effect of the covid vaccines, so I was wondering if this may have been a factor in your case also, is it a possibility with respect to the timing?
Regardless, I'm glad you're on the way to recovery, just be patient, and remember slow and steady wins the race!

Just want to say that I really appreciate your videos. I'm fairly new to the world of indoor bouldering, and your videos are a constant inspiration to me. With more and more channels on UA-cam trying to 1 up themselves, in doing so seeming to lose site of why they started, it is comforting watching your videos each week and seeing them consistently quality videos of quality climbing. Your eye for filming and content is what drew me in in the first place. I have faith that wherever you go next with your projects, it will be just as great. Happy to hear your health is on the up and up. Take care of yourself. I hope to see your channel going for years to come. Cheers.

So good to hear from you man. And thanks for being so open and sharing your journey.
Looking forward to seeing more from you.
(I can empathize completely- and it takes courage for you to not give up and keep pushing-
I’ve been struggling with similar symptoms but apparently it’s related to a virus - post viral syndrome. The decreased ability to climb was a killer emotionally. And the insomnia is one of the worst symptoms).

Your videos have always captured something special for me, which no other youtuber has achieved yet. It feels like a bouldering session with pals you meat at the gym, it's quite a cozy feeling. The increasing quality of the videos is very noticable and makes your videos sooo enjoyable and one can see that it is really a passion project for you. I hope your balance issue keeps getting better. I wish you the very best and hope for you to stay injury-free and healthy. Good grip on nikkens' boulder, i think you will need it! :D

Hey Eric! So thankful that you have made this video and provided us an update about how you are doing. I was always wondering how your health has been and if you were alright (physically and especially mentally). I did watch the video of you climbing first then the short film you did then this. It was in a weird order but nevertheless, I have always admired every video you have made and will continue to make! Know that there are people looking out for you, even if you don’t personally know them. Take care of yourself.

I wouldn't care if you never made a video bigger or harder than gym sessions with the boys. Anything else is gravy. We are here for you and dont want you to stop if you dont have to. Try a weekly live stream of the actual session. No editing no worries. We love new big projects but are happy to support you guys as people regardless of video content.
