  • Fr. Chris unpacks the basics of Baptism. Is it more than a symbol? Does it actually DO something?!

Hi! Would an evangelical Christian who regularly attends a home church but doesn't have official membership be required to rebaptize to join the Anglican church? Thanks :)

No, you would not be required to be re-baptized....as long as you were baptized in the Name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Unfortunately it must be done in the name of Jesus or lord Jesus and the person he or she must be fully Submerged in the water and they must have that name spoken over them be In Jesus there is power

Well, it does not give you salvation so you don’t need baptism but we want baptism because it is a proclamation of our salvation. I like submerging as a symbol of death and resurrection.

For the sacrament of baptism to be valid, three things have to be present: the correct form, the correct matter, and the correct intention. With baptism, the correct intention is to do what the Church does, the correct matter is water and the correct form is the Trinitarian form of baptising “in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matt. 28:19). Although full immersion is desirable, it doesn’t mean non-immersion baptisms are invalid. In fact, we have a biblical and historical precedent for a pouring, or at least a non-immersion, method. The prophet Ezekiel, in 36:25, speaks of God sprinkling clean water when the new covenant is made. Peter, in his Pentecost sermon, teaches God pours out the Holy Spirit, which in Acts 2:38 we’re told is done in baptism

@@sweetalaskan3573 1 Peter 3:21 would beg to differ - "..... and this water symbolises baptism that now saves you also......"
