I’m old so I developed my “style” before it was a thing. For serious occasions, a classic style will never ever let you down. For a small town environment, casual is perfect. And finally, I’m somewhat of an old hippie so some boho suits me personally. 🤗🤗🤗

I have a 15-piece wardrobe. My adjectives are sporty, casual, and fun. I don't wear active wear per se, I walk and exercise in tennis/golf dresses. I've lost 85 lbs and was very unsure of my style until I heard the 3 adjective tip. When I shop for the fall, I'll have adjectives to keep me on the path of no bad purchases. I’ve found my style is different depending on the season. In fall and winter I’m more structured/classic. In spring and summer I’m more bohemian.
Same! In spring and summer I wear dresses everyday and am more boho and in the fall and winter I’m more classic.

I would say I'm classic, chic, and sleek. I would consider my style niche. This is my comfort zone.
Great video! I am so not niche and have been conflicted about this.... until this video. I shy away from actually committing to three adjectives for my style because they seem to conflict. Now I can openly say my adjectives are: classic, elegant and bohemian. I have felt like the bohemian side of me doesn't seem to fit into a wardrobe unless I completely commit to just that style. Now I see that they can all three exist in harmony. This makes me feel very relieved as I can freely choose a dress or outfit that is bohemian (and makes me feel wonderful) and not be conflicted. No longer will I worry about others might think of my bohemian side. Flowers and flowy here I come. 😊

Classic, comfortable, fun! We live on a farm in Oklahoma, and there are days getting dirty is a real thing, which requires more denim! When I'm at my job, I wear more classic pieces. However, I do love flowing comfortable clothing.
Mine are artistic, utilitarian, and natural. I love the handmade pieces in my wardrobe and making eclectic mixes. I also love overalls, jump suits, utility jackets, carpenter/painters pants, etc. this is my Rosie the Riveter side that has a lot of hands on projects. Then there's my outdoor granola girl side that takes on some aspects of cottage core. I love things made out of linen, hand woven headbands, jewelry made from stone or wood (especially if they're made by an artisan, see adjective #1)😊
I donated all my linen because I h8 ironing😅
Besides that, we're Twins!

My adjectives have changed a bit as I have contemplated on what I wear most and feel best in as well as a slight change in my lifestyle. My current words are natural, sporty and artistic. I love natural fabrics like linen and cotton and realize I can’t stand being hot in polyester. I love natural colors found in nature. I am also quite sporty and very active all day long so while I don’t want to wear athleisure, I do need to dress in a way that I can always take long walks comfortably and such. I also love an artistic style and especially florals and artistic details. These can overlap but not always.

Casual, comfortable, classy does it for me, Jennifer. I laughed at what you said around 10:06, about trying a new-ish/different item and feeling uncomfortable in it. I donated a dress just yesterday that I tried and tried to like, but couldn't; It just wasn't "me", although it fit well. It felt like a costume! You described it so well here; it was uncomfortable. Thanks for the video validation. You made me feel less like I'd failed by not adopting the look of this dress. I learned more about myself instead :)
I love this realization! I am in a season of life where my body is always changing. And I love jeans and blouses and blazers (more of a casual city look?), but also linen and cotton dresses/ skirts. I like going out, but rarely do as I am a stay at home wife and mom who homesteads. I often find I do not have a certain look and this is so validating! It is okay to like a variety and not stick into a specific style box. In doing that it becomes your style. I had a friend tell me she loves my style and it was the best compliment because I had felt like I didn’t have one. But the mixed styles is my style haha!
The timing of this video is so great! I am rediscover my style here over the last year and this makes so much sense to me.
For years now I have had a very classic, neutral style. When I was younger I would have been horrified by those clothes. I was very bohemian, feminine with a retro lean. When I started working in the corporate world, I left all those things behind. Even after leaving my career to stay home, and having a very minimal wardrobe, I ignored my tendency to love those other styles. I adopted a very neutral and classic wardrobe because that was easiest.
I recently learned I am a Spring color season and although I don’t feel that the season typing is something I would ever follow strictly, it started me down a road of really thinking about what I truly loved and felt drawn to style wise. I trying the words simple, feminine and artistic for this year, although I love the word “free spirited” as well!

Beatiful take on the niche adjective Jennifer. I always thought that niche styling is something that few people wear, like certain less popular brands of clothing or decor, but English is my second language so you learn everyday😊 Well, decided to go beyond niche and experiment with color. Due to my light complexion and hair, and not very prominent facial features, I was considered a pastel girl. Bold colors usually overpower me. But I love decisive palets, like reds, navy, green, royal blues, so here we go, for this spring-summer I decided to go with bold and pastel palette and dare I say😮 to blend them in each outfit. 😁

My three words to describe me and my style is classic, feminine and unique. Classic because I particularly don't care for trends. Feminine because I like looking like a lady. Unique because I want to be original in my own style.

Great video! This explains so much for me. I love colorful, flowing and whimsical clothes - on others!! But for me it’s classic, tailored and neutral. I just relearned this after buying a $300 dress, wearing it once, being uncomfortable and deciding not to wear it again. In the same weekend I wore white tailored dress slacks and a lovely neutral colored sweater set with pearls. Ahhh! This is me!

I resonate with eras and seasons - spring/ summer, I’m into vintage Italian summer vibes, fall it’s 90’s ish classic .. . @ work I’m a chic minimalist… the 3 don’t overlap much - a little in fall / winter … but really 3 distinct wardrobes 😮
Very interesting take on a subject I've mulled over a lot... a lot! As a teacher, I found having a consistent (niche) style offered my students some comfort and created less of a distraction. It also brought me clarity and simplicity. These days I feel the same way with my grandchildren. I want them to say, " Oh, I remember how my MaMa always wore ..." All that said, I do have trouble committing to a style. I trust someday it will come to me like Emily Dickinson and her ubiquitous white dresses!
My 3 words are relaxed, retro, and romantic and I don’t think my wardrobe is very niche. I have a small farm and work from home so most days I just want to be comfortable and feminine with some pieces thrown in inspired by my love of 60s and 90s fashion
I’m definitely not niche and want to spend time thinking about my three words to describe my style. I love my vintage leather jacket, my straight leg jeans, my pink ballet flats, my novelty print dresses, and I would love a pair of Doc Martins. There are days I love to dress more dark and edgy and other days more romantic and feminine. But I always love to feel like my style exudes fun and I think a part of me wants to be more bold. So maybe my style is fun, eclectic, and bold.
Casual, comfortable, simple elegance. These may seem contradictory, but casual comfort can be made more elegant when desired by adding jewelry, or a jacket or sweater. I also prefer sticking to a color palette that suits me better. I admire and appreciate the styles of other women when they have found what works well for them even though it may not be my own style. I think I need a journaling about your style workbook or journal prompts before I can actually journal about my style. Maybe part of it is, "who actually am I", since it's impossible to select adjectives without thinking about yourself, your personal character, how you come across. But for me, the struggle is that I have 3 different clothing situations: clothes at work, casual clothes after work and on weekends, and workout gear. I realize that ideally a lot of people on here would just have clothes and not separate work clothes and home clothes, but I usually change after work and I don't bother wearing work clothes on the weekend! Is this a Daily connoisseur cry for help? ;)
My true style is also not niche. I love to feel feminine and flowy, but with an edgy twist. So it might be a patterned maxi dress with black gun metal accessories, or a feminine top with black jeans and leopard print flats. I like dressing up an edgier style, you can have a lot of fun with it - there are no rules here!

This has been on my mind lately. My words are sporty, colorful, and free spirited. I realize now I’ve tried so hard to fight against either sporty or free spirited to have a more cohesive wardrobe. This made me realize I need to accept that I have intricate tastes that aren’t always “niche.” Great video!

I love that you mention this! I’ve had so much trouble narrowing down my wardrobe because I have different styles that I really love but those aren’t easily mixed and matched! Some days I feel more classic and other days, particularly in the warmer months I feel more bohemian and carefree. I have a very short pixie cut so I have fixed nice hair days for classy clothing and then other days I let my pixie cut be a little wavy and care free and dress more relaxed. I’m thinking I may have a “capsule” for each style I really enjoy ❤

My adjectives this spring/summer are earthy, beautiful, simple.
I love wearing earth tones like browns and greens. Skirts are my "thing" and I wear them whenever I can. Simple comes from the fact that I have discovered I do not like wearing patterns at all! Only solid colors for me. You'd think I would have realized that sooner but it took journaling to figure it out!

I mostly like classic and simple but sometimes I also love fuchsia pink or garden fairy dresses and I now realise that I was trying to suppress the more adventures side, to fit into the classic category and to have a matching wardrobe. I'm finding my style again after coming out of the postpartum period where I got lazy with all the comfy leggings! After pondering this and thinking about what I want my style to be in this season of life, especially looking toward the summer months, my adjectives are casual-elegance, relaxed, and edwardian. I want to elevate my current mom outfit to nicer bottoms and tops with classic understated jewelry as well as keeping my girly tendencies of lace, florals, and flowy dresses. Relaxed is partly about style and wearing things a little less structured, but it's mainly about my mindset of not being too hard on myself about wearing the perfect outfit or not being able to wear something because of my postpartum body.
This video really hit home with me. I have always struggled with the realization that I'm a chameleon when it comes to my style. I thought it made me seem like an indecisive "wanna be" who didn't really know herself. While I'm drawn to the classic and elegant "old money" look, I also like to experiment with whimsical and unexpected style choices. Thank you for reminding us style chameleons that we should be celebrated for being confident and knowing ourselves well enough to take risks and experiment with our fashion choices.
Wow, today’s video was so timely and relatable. I was shopping online Sunday, looking for some new summer pieces to replace some wardrobe items, and so many of my thoughts were reflected in your statements. I often utilize the “wish list” feature in an online shop as I gather favorites from what is offered. In narrowing down my choices, I could really see a wide range in my preferences. I have found that I work best with 3 capsule wardrobes- drawing from 3 aesthetics to create my seasonal wardrobe. The variety is able to provide the spectrum of style that I love to create with creativity of expression.
Right now my 3 capsules consist of bohemian, Southwestern/cowgirl, and “granola girl” (lots of earthy, hippie hiking layers). I had to store my vintage and Safari style clothing since having my 5th baby and gaining weight. So my style is pulls between a colorful, feminine bohemian with long layers and Southwest jewelry, or wearing a laid back graphic tee under a button down shirt and linen.
Classic, Light, and Airy, were my three this season. I love the vintage 40's /50's look, but I also wanted to leave room for flexibility,(Airy) since those silhouettes tend to be rather structured and I also like things to feel free and flowy from time to time, (especially when it's hot outside). Somehow, I've managed to get pieces that go on either side of the spectrum and also blend well together in the middle when I combine them. I've never enjoyed working with my wardrobe so much before and I have you and your work to thank for that 🙏❤

This really resonates with me as I have never been able to choose just one style. However I feel all my clothes reveal something about my personality. My three words are ladylike, nostalgic and creative. I make most of my own clothes so they are one of a kind and not niche at all.

Love this discussion. Certain distinct styles and specific designs have appealed to me for my whole adult life and it used to bother me that there was no real rhyme or reason to what I gravitate to. These designs don’t all fit together. Or why even sometimes I see a garment that aligns with my go-to preferences, but I don’t love it. Like, none of this makes sense on paper. Eventually I realized that’s the beauty of having personal taste. Taste isn’t about checking off a checklist. It’s more creative and intuitive than this.
I don’t know my adjectives yet, but I maybe something like edgy (moto jackets; asymmetrical necklines; structured button front or zip front dresses; black lace); vintage feminine (sweetheart and bustier style necklines; retro square necklines and florals); and California casual (love denim; figure flattering blue jeans and a white tee, a woven bag, sneakers or sandals). Other things I’ve always and will always love - eyelet, casuals blazers, 3/4 length sleeves, almond toe shoes, trench coats, a-line midi dresses, bold shades of green, painterly prints… 🙂

I love that you are encouraging others to think about and find their personal style and be authentic to themselves while still being classy or as you put it, stylish. I do find your items so pretty. I especially love the ones that are the white vintage looking blouses from maybe the old Victoria style or a bit like the pieces were maybe made in India. I've always been drawn to both. There is a style of white blouses and dresses that have lace and stitching on them and so very pretty. I can almost always tell that they are made in India and look at the tag inside the item. I love the idea of journaling to find my 3 adjectives. I think I might also go through my wardrobe and see if I can describe each piece’s style in one or two adjectives, esp fave pieces. It could show repetition in certain words and help me find my 3. And yes, mine prob change a bit depending on the season.

My adjectives are: romantic, timeless and a hint of surprise. 😊 I’m a harpist, so I love wearing long, flowing dresses, pearls, a gold watch, and perhaps some fun shoes, trendy white leather boots or red heels, and I wear a brown leather jacket through the cold months. A little something unexpected and fun to mix up the old-soul. 😊
After seeing your black duster cardigan in one of your videos i found something similar in charcoal to add to my wardrobe and there is a midlength black warm pleated skirt i found while shopping which will be perfect for me for winter with boots. As I have shared with you, I struggle with what I am "suppose'' to wear as a 59 year old, and the clothes I WANT to wear! (Your support has been so important to me, and I really appreciate it!) I feel the pull toward more colorful pieces and wanting to add the word “artist” to my list of style words❤ but I also have been hiking more and have a vacation to Belize that will need some more athletic style clothes too. I’ve been struggling with the right clothes for that trip- I realized I boxed myself in with my everyday words and I need to be flexible if some of my clothes are different for more strenuous exercise outside!

Great video, Jennifer! My current adjectives are classic, casual, and edgy. I live in an extremely casual place and stay home with my kids, so I’ve found casual to be a necessity. But I get bored with that sometimes, so adding elements of classic and edgy keep things feeling more “me”. If I could add a fourth it would be literary… I like to wear book-inspired tops and accessories to keep things fun. I suppose that last one would be niche!
Classic, dramatic and age appropriate are my words. I turned 60 this year and I feel and look younger but I know dressing too young would age me. 🌸
What a thought provoking video. Several years ago I decided I wanted to have my wardrobe to reflect the words Feminine and Exotic. It still is feminine but is exotic still relevant? I will have to ponder this.

Since I have lost a significant amount of weight, I struggled with my adjectives! It seems choosing Categories is more appropriate! My work wardrobe needs pockets, Going “out” is a different category and I’m embracing No Style when I’m home, as I live alone! Of course all need honing, since I walked out of a pair of jeans 🤣 early this week! (Yes they were zipped & button! Thankfully I was home!) I have a large variety of white tops & blouses, since they coordinate with the majority of bottoms! Maybe that’s Classic?! Flow state may evolve over time! I'm a bit of a mix with my style also. I woukd probabky say bohemian sometimes, modern and age appropriate and sometimes classic.

I think you ARE niche, in the best sense, and I think it is totally your own ---- "playful elegance" I see your whimsy and boho spirit weave its way in. ❤ My three words this spring/summer are glamorous, effortless, spontaneous (meaning day to night and ready for any adventure... within reason and footwear permitting 😅) I am not niche but love niche elements such as vintage.
I think my style is pretty niche, but I do like to mix it up occasionally. Summer is HOT where I live, so my style shifts from very tailored and layered, to more breezy and casual. I wear linen year round, with skirts tailored in the Edwardian style and tops that are embellished with embroidery and lace. The flip side of my style personality is very preppy... I always have a breton stripe shirt of some variety and a pair of slim black cropped pants on hand, as well as a little black dress.

My three adjectives are classic - casual - whimsical (I actually took inspiration for the latter from you and fits me so well). I might experiment with more romantic or feminine pieces in the future and see how that goes. 😊
Edit: So, my style is also not niche at all. This might be why I was not happy when I tried to only want to stick to one style only. Only classic was too formal for my lifestyle for example. Only retro/vintage (as my username suggests I had a 50s/60s/Audrey Hepburn inspired phase) felt too costumey.

This is such an interesting topic, Jennifer! I have been doing the ten item wardrobe for 10 years now (I love it!) and I have had the same realization as you've had. I'm definitely not niche and I have allowed myself to express that over the past few years. My 3 adjectives for this summer are cottagecore, boho and colourful.

I feel like my adjectives haven't changed in a long time. Classic, feminine, understated. If allowed a 4th I'd say comfortable. I don't think I'm niche becuase I like to wear trousers with a ruffled floral blouse to work as well as maxi dresses. As long as the overall esthetic is feminine and classy (to me, anyway) I'm happy.

Having developed sunsensitivity, and still wanting to garden, I feel like a cartoon of a little garden lady in my big sunhat,long sleeves, longpants, and garden gloves. I found large cotton striped men's shirts work well, so achieved a classic sporty look. After gardening, i tend to wear dresses and flowing things. So for summer: sporty, classic, romantic.

Really enjoyed this video, I would say that I am classic, feminine with some edge. I may not be niche. There are times where I will wear combat boots and other times I wear heels, also I will wear a really feminine dress and another time I will wear casual. 🙂
