Just a heads up for you those spectra filters were not close to being dirty. They need changing when the whole surface is absolutely black. The anchorages you are in look like there is quite a lot of sediment in the water. Preferable to run the water makwe offshore but you do what you gotta do. Spectra is amazing! Congrats on the new boat.
I think this is the first time I’ve seen Terysa actually having fun, and it was during the stressful time of dinghy relaunch. Nice to see you back again!
I don't need to tell you two that transition is hard, and you've been in transition mode for several years. This, to me, appears to be the point at which you are finally starting to move away from transition and into cruising mode. I am super happy for you and look forward to adventures to come. Sail-on!
Happy to see you both enjoying sailing again getting aquainted with the systems and how to use them relaxing on the beach enjoying a meal is the bonus.
In my experience, with paper and cartridge filters, if you flush them a bit, then let them dry out thoroughly in the sun it's easy to get all the "stuff" out of them for re-use. In places where the water is super funky, using a prior used filter that's been cleaned and disinfected by the sun☀️ can save just blowing through new filters. Also when people add on water makers to older boats, if they install an extra inexpensive cartridge filter as a "pre-filter" close to your water intake, your lines and water maker filters will stay cleaner in general and your wm filters will last much longer.
I think it was so nice that Terysa did the first sail with just the 2 of you as even though you were both stressed out learning the new boat I think Terysa was actually a little worse off. But now you both get to enjoy the new boat equally and both learning the upkeep will really help. Have fun.
Good to see some positivity return to the channel. It's been a tough watch lately, at a time you'd think these two would be beaming with joy having a brand new million dollar boat. Hard work? Absolutely. I'll just leave it at what I said originally .... it's nice to see some positivity on the channel again!
running diesel engines for a few minutes at idle before shutting down, allows time for the exhaust manifold, turbos (if equipped) and other items to cool down a bit. it just helps in the long run.
Please! Get rid of that capsule expresso machine! Those things are terrible for the environment; organic matter trapped in plastic! Even the tin capsules are plastified! You don't have to do fancy pour-overs and say magic words like Jason Wynn, but at least get a normal expresso machine! How much time do you really spend spooning coffee grounds into a normal expresso handpiece... are you THAT busy (and rich, because capsules are more expensive than plain coffee)?
I'm just going to leave this here www.wired.co.uk/article/coffee-pods-nespresso-recycling Also, if the taste of the nespresso pod coffee offends you (fair), we are working on getting an espresso machine for the boat, but we decided to just use our very old Nespresso machine for the interim.
@@sailingrubyrose Oh I the taste of Nespresso doesn't offend me (it's great!). It's the fact that it adds insult to injury by, not only being non-biodegradable, but trapping biodegradable matter (95% of it's volume) to boot. At least cut them in half and squish the capsules or, at slightly more than least, just drink normal expresso. My wife has bought every kind of capsule machine, and they have all (oops!) somehow ended up in a skip and, guess what? Their volume is about two weeks worth of capsules. My apologies to George Clooney, but I bet you my best conker that he and Amal have a regular expresso machine in Sonning...
I really enjoy your true honesty on trying to learn all the do's and don't on your new boat. I feel as tenacious as Nick is you will get a handle on everything in due time. Take care guys and Terysa that was a really cute bikini.
That WAS a good day! Lovely catamaran sail in Thailand - that is just how I imagine it to be. Also very interested to see how those water filters look once you are in different waters. Enjoy and keep us posted, as always. xo
Love it ... your Pommy other half has a Bunning hat... so not a real pom/ he learnt and love asia.. go guys ... you waited for the build ... enjoy ... RR2 she looks fab... very very nice looking sails... who made?
Glad you had a great first sail alone. It was good seeing you guys again at the Annapolis Show, although briefly. Such a busy time at the show. Best wishes and Safe Cruising! Craig and Janice
Thanks for posting. I do not agree that smokin' is bad for one's health... at least in Terysa's case... seems every time she appears, Terysa is smokin'!!! Nick have you double checked the fire suppression equipment... might consider a "deluge" pump. Cheers, SV Good Karma as Grins.
What camera did you shoot this episode with? Name, band, make, etc. Is this camera new to you? I ask because this episode is GEORGEOUS!! Thanks for taking us along on your journeys, all the good and bad times.
I was so happy that things seemed to have finally turned around and you were able to enjoy RR2. As a fairly new subscriber, joining you from GWTW, I am thoroughly enjoying your videos as well.
300 amps, but at how many volts? 12? 24? The ice maker at 5 amps is not much if the volts are 24, that is 120 watts, and it will surely only be running a short amount of time. Watts (power) is the units that should always be used.
I can only dream of that... as a nature and water lover & a diver. The jet ski fun on that gorgeous water. Get a wide-angle lens with a polarizer. Advice from a photographer. ❤
Gentle folk, find more challenging dinghy trips to do, it brings out the best in you!! On another subject I know nothing about (there are many😅😅) would you pick up less sediment in your filters if you ran the water maker further offshore? EDIT: I see I am far from the first to suggest this!! 🙄God bless and thanks for sharing 👍🤗🤗
Looked like a lovely sail. Glad you are enjoying the new boat and figuring out it's idiosyncrasies. Apparently you have figured out the dingy lift. Great place to go ashore.
cheers, Nick. good to see someone pointing out the cannabis stores. can't go past a good session and a coffee! ❤❤ loving the CAT. keep up the amazing videos legends!!!
I've been to those islands a couple of times... and I wouldn't be running the water maker whilst at anchor there (*starfish* of all sorts!)! Is it possible for you to run the water maker whilst you're under sail?
Nope! Didn't know it was a cannabis shop. You both seemed more comfortable during this episode. You are getting used to the new systems, and there are many of them, and more relaxed as a result. Enjoy life!
Does your boat have regen while under sail? just another way to get back whatever power you can and or maybe a small wind generator and you can enjoy all the ice you want.....LOL
White silicone on your o rings That way they don’t stretch or stick when you replace the filters Just a suggestion as if they break or deform They will leak Just a suggestion But you probably know that already
Lovely sail and great to see ye so relaxed doing it. When ye got to shore, did Nick sample some of the local herbs, he seemed quite excited about the boat hire shop!!! Stay Safe & Fair Winds!! ☘
Beautiful, relaxing episode. That really was a pot shop? My how things have changed. Looks like you are starting to get back in the tempo of boat life.
You realise you are the first sailing channel where they have sold their boat and bought a new one to actually get going on their new cat. I am thinking Nicky and Jason. La Vagabond and the O Kelly’s are all a bit envious. You have a great sailing channel. And love Nick going with a Bunnings straw hat. Gold!
I like you have sailed for decades and still underestimate the learning curve of a new boat. The more systems the more problems. You have built in systems off grid that most luxury apartments don’t have have on grid. Ice makers, water makers etc. Point is one must decide what one wants and live with the maintenance or repair consequences. I’m hoping it’s mostly settled down for you now , tough few years are done. Your learning curve is flattening out soon you’ll find the rhythm and it will easier. Big achievement.
Loved seeing you sail. Think you will do a sailing video that is just a some time wa5ch the water, the waves, thae sails, etc. Kind of how it feels under sail? I doubt I will get a chance to sail myself. I can enjoy the feel vicariously.
did you loose your engine waranty's because you changed the alternators ? seems volvo penta and yanmar will void entire engine waranty if altentors changed
Looks like you had fun, I think you’re being a little hard on yourselves. You haven’t really sailed for like two years and this not inly a whole new but but a different kind of boat. You are already great just give yourselves a break.
So a little trick... keep a fender on the dinghy when you plan on beaching it and when you first hit the sand put the fender under the dinghy and roll the dinghy on the fender up the beach. Reverse to go back in.
Loving your adventures What happens to the water from your washing machine. Do you have a holding tank? Do you use a detergent that is least damaging to the environment What about toilet waste. Do you use a holding tank and are there pump out facilities in any of these beautiful destinations
Learning some new with each video of yours. What do you do to protect all your electronics during lightning storm? I was wondering after your video with the thunder in the background? It seems like the mast would be a lighting rod and induce a current in any electric or antenna cables?
Great video! So happy to see you settling into the new boat. Nick, meeting you was the highlight of the Annapolis boat show for me! We can't wait to join your ranks as live aboard adventurers. :)
A water system that can somehow flush the coarse crud out of the filtration system, so the filters would not bog down in so much muck, would be ideal! Any thoughts or comments on this? You folks can’t be the first cruisers to run into this…
I am looking at that window above Theresa head at the wheel where she looks at the main sail. I think it should be larger so she could see the sail better. Just my opinion, so many tradeoffs.
😅warm diesel engines under a medium load, run them long under a 80% load, then warm down, no short runs, no loading up cold, no stopping when hot, lots of oil changed and you will get a long life👍
Out of curiosity, in decent conditions like you had while you were chatting at the start, is there any reason you couldn't run the watermaker and/or do washing while motoring or motor sailing at the end of your passage?
I call nonsense on letting the engines run for 2 or 3 min before shutting off. Typically diesels don’t like no load. The manoeuvring you are doing whilst anchoring is all done at idle other than backing down on the anchor and that 30 seconds of higher rpm wouldn’t be any cause to let them idle. My diesel mechanic advised against running the engine at the dock (no load) if you wanted to run the boat due to lack of use. He advised to drive it around the marina or in gear at the dock if really in a pinch.
What an amazing boat and place on Earth! Do you ever get used to the heat and humidity? I might have to factor in a couple of hours of air conditioning into my battery capacity calculation!
It’s really good to see you guys finally beginning to enjoy the boat
It's a great feeling.
You two look so much more relaxed in this video than you have since getting the new boat.
Kudos!
Those sails are beautiful!
Yep, it was a good day for sure
It looked like they were relaxed with the help of some products from the shop :)
Ah okay thanks! The unit display also tells us when to change the filters, so that's helpful.
I think this is the first time I’ve seen Terysa actually having fun, and it was during the stressful time of dinghy relaunch. Nice to see you back again!
Ha! Yep, it's been a bit stressful for both of us, but we're finally getting there I think
Looks like you've worked the kinks out some and are enjoying yourselves. Glad to see.
I don't need to tell you two that transition is hard, and you've been in transition mode for several years. This, to me, appears to be the point at which you are finally starting to move away from transition and into cruising mode. I am super happy for you and look forward to adventures to come. Sail-on!
YES. The transition mode is the struggle.
Yer almost there. Don’t forget that you love each and let each other know.
You could use a Takacat with a 3HP ev outboard just for open beach landings (under 100lbs).
Happy to see you both enjoying sailing again getting aquainted with the systems and how to use them relaxing on the beach enjoying a meal is the bonus.
Sailing in Thailand looks absolutely beautiful!!Enjoy. Cheers 🥂 😊
It's STUNNING. So, so beautiful
Best laugh from Teresa in a couple of years. Boat looks very nice. Enjoy

Super smart call, good post cheers.
I REALLY like waking up to you guys on a Friday!! This is setting my whole vibe today ❤❤❤
Yay! Glad you're enjoying the new timing. We're just trying it out for a while.
I think it was so nice that Terysa did the first sail with just the 2 of you as even though you were both stressed out learning the new boat I think Terysa was actually a little worse off. But now you both get to enjoy the new boat equally and both learning the upkeep will really help. Have fun.
I am so glad you guys are enjoying life again. What a beautiful beach you found. And congratulations on your first sail. 😊
Seeing you guys relaxed and happy shows all the speed bumps were worth it. Fair seas ahead.👍
I still believe Nick is related to Danny Huston!!
Good to see some positivity return to the channel. It's been a tough watch lately, at a time you'd think these two would be beaming with joy having a brand new million dollar boat. Hard work? Absolutely. I'll just leave it at what I said originally .... it's nice to see some positivity on the channel again!
Nick will have the guitar out before you know it.
You should just take paddle boards and surf to shore😎👍🏼
Ha! Yep, paddleboards are on the shopping list.
running diesel engines for a few minutes at idle before shutting down, allows time for the exhaust manifold, turbos (if equipped) and other items to cool down a bit. it just helps in the long run.
loving the Bunnings hat
WOW ... What a BEAUTIFUL PLACE. Great job . Love seeing you two SMILING !!!
Great to see these guys happy again they look alot less stressed than previously . Well done guys

Thank you, just thought it was a bar, not a cannabis shop
Great question. No idea off the top of my head. Usually the sweet spot is about 1800rpm.
If you ever wonder if someone is English.....watch them make Coffee
That WAS a good day! Lovely catamaran sail in Thailand - that is just how I imagine it to be. Also very interested to see how those water filters look once you are in different waters. Enjoy and keep us posted, as always. xo
Oh look... A cannabis shop that hires boats too... Cracked me up...What a place...
Just after meal.. The shots of Nick walking down on the Rocks... that look like 'Snoopy'

The bunnings hat is chef's kiss. Awesome video - looks wonderful.
You guys should smoke more herbs. Much more smiley after the wacky tabackey.
Not sure why, but I got a big kick hearing doctor Nick say blah, blah, blah. Ty
Happy sailing.
When will you make video about electricity consumption?
The cat is nice. The couple has love, and that is wonderful. TY for sharing your love.

Oh good. I was getting a little annoyed by the whining about having to you “poor” people having live on a million $ boat and it wasn’t perfect.
Really great to see you getting back into the groove and enjoying RR2 hopefully the teething problems are coming to an end
Love it guys , and good too see you guys finding your rhythm. Thanks guys love it

You have plenty of storage. I suppose you could expand your wardrobe a bit so its not necessary to wear the same shirt 3 days running. 🤔

It looks like a beautiful place but you've seen so many beautiful places.
How many gallons of water desalination can you get it off 1 pair of primary filters?
LMAO ... recant my sins ... heh great episode.
I am considering wearing Moo moos like Marlon Brando did to when he bought his island in Hawaii and gained 150 lbs .
Nothing more Aussie than a Bunnings hat! Correct me if I’m wrong, is it the first time we’ve seen it on the channel?
What a breath of fresh air - finally starting to enjoy your new boat. Great to see. Looking forward to more like this.
Loved seeing you guys enjoy yourselves. Thank you so much!
Love the vibe of this video. Thanks for the Happy days.
There you are!
Your both Back!
Just Awesome 🎉❤
10:10 Its better to flush dirty water from bottle before installing new filters.
Well when I wear my shirts for more than three days they start to smell like road kill !! also my socks stand up by themselves !
CONGRATS on your 1st sail❤
Cool spot at the end. Happy to see you having so much fun and smiling at the end
Awesome I will be in Thailand in 6 days....WOOOOOooooooo HOOOOoooooooooo
Looked like a dream. Thai's know how to cook the red snapper. 😋
❤ awesome you two ,ahhhhhh, see you found the Leo beer,he he ,looking good out there 😊🌏👍
Is the ice maker the largest daily draw? That is a surprise to me...
Another wonderful video guys.
