It would be interesting to see how XD2 compares to other newer denoising programs

Absolutely. Perhaps when on1 new nonoise ai is out later this month we can compare.

I use PhotoLab 7. I haven't been using XD for the reasons you give, artifacts. What I have been doing is use Deep Prime, save as a TIFF and finish processing with Topaz Photo AI 2.4 which gives be better results than what XD2 gives based on your samples.

Thanks for your feedback. Good to have confirmation of
my artifacts experience. Just to understand, you mean you denoise with deepprime then denoise again with photo ai 2? Is that correct?

@@takebetterphotos8132 Yes I denoise a second time with Topaz Photo AI along with a little facial AI.

Interesting workflow. I only use one or the other. It should be faster though as XD is slow.

I have Photolab 7 as well and love it. However the latest Ver. 4 for Topaz PhotoAI has become truly another level product. Greatly improved. The noise reduction now indeed does appear to be more free of any artifacts and can literally wipe out noise, not just limit it, without penalties. Their uprez mode is also greatly improved over their Gigapixel as well.

I have tried Topaz Photo AI 2, late last year. At that time, I didn't think it was better than XD. Not sure how far the latest version has improved but given your feedback now I'm excited to do a comparison with pure raw 4 and the new on1 nonoise 2 when it comes out. I have always been a fan of gigapixel. That product is so much better than the competition.

I have compared RAW images developed with version 3 and 4 from my Fuji x-s20 and I find only marginal differences, which for me do not justify an upgrade for 79€. However, I read somewhere that xd2 is also not yet supposed to work with images from the latest Fuji cameras and that xd is automatically applied instead ?

Yes I do recall them mentioning that in their presentation that they will updating that very soon. X-trans still uses xd only.

DxO says on their website today: “DeepPRIME XD2 will support Fujifilm X-Trans files in the near future.”

I tried ver. 3 when it came out, and it was way too slow on my computer. Ver. 4 is much faster, and quite usable on my machine. I have the latest Topaz photo A.I. and PureRaw 4 is a bit faster on my system, and I like the results better, so I guess I will have to be lightening my wallet a bit.

Thanks for sharing. DXO didn't mention it was faster so that is a welcome surprise. I've always thought that DeepPrime XD was better than Topaz but I've heard others say they prefer the latest release of Topaz. Are you using the latest Topaz Photo AI?

@takebetterphotos8132 Yes, I am, just updated it the other day.
