If you'll pardon the pun, here is even more "A Bit of Fry & Laurie" here: bit.ly/2OJKqZD
what pun?
What pun?
@@volo870 the pun is that.... There was no pun :)
@@ElKoubi1975 How come pun is no pun? Pun should be pun pun.
@@volo870 Err...thinking about it now, you are quite right....a pun is a pun....is a pun...
@ BBC Comedy.....where is the pun then????? Come on... we are all waiting!!
"For evil to flourish all it is required is for good men to spout cliches." HAHA!
Never more accurate than in the times we're living in now.

Always good to start a death threat letter with Dear sir or Madam 😂
Well, one must maintain the highest standards when planning an execution. One must'nt be shoddy my good man!
I'm reminded of the letter Tom Lehrer received: "Darling, I love you and I cannot live without you. Marry me or I will kill myself!" Addressed to "The Occupant".
To whom it may concern.
predicting youtube comments decades in advance
Pretty much the internet itself, I think.
Exactly what I was thinking, like someone put a huge, hate filled comment through google translate!!! "spelled wrong" LOL!!!
Ah, I was gonna say Twitter.
Monty Python did that years previously with the argument sketch.
You’d be surprised how far back in history these sort of threats go.
I've watched this sketch numerous times, and I've just noticed that the so-called "shadow" disappears when Hugh goes to do his song lol. Very nicely hidden gag there
this show was so unbelievably ahead of it’s time and under appreciated, genius
Neale Scott: I liked this show but don’t see how it was “ahead of its time”. They didn’t do much that Monty Python hadn’t done a decade before.
@@maargenbx1454 They were actually funny for the most part. Monty Python tried a bit too hard to be absurd in a lot of cases.
@@micahwright5901 Yes, I always thought MP sometimes felt forced.
its time
"My face is made up." Took me about two seconds to register what he'd said, I wasn't expecting that :P
Cuz hes on tv and make up artist had touched it up.
The whole thing is pretty amusing, but the really amazing thing is how much humor is packed into the last couple of seconds.
30p postage and packaging ... damn what a difference just a few years makes.
"just a few years"
*40 years. Yup, it does indeed make a difference. If you take into account inflation, 70p for a stamp is an absolute bargain for an industry that was foreseen to be dead completely by the 2010s due to technological advancement.
They basically predicted future internet comments before y'all were even born.
So did Monty Python with the argument sketch.
@@samarvora7185 No they didn’t.

That joke was subtle and went over the heads of most people in the audience, but I spotted it.

I feel like many people are missing out on "Who is she?" :DDDD
M. Portillo.
I don't get that bit.
@@Chris_Cross It's a reference to Micheal Portillo, a prominent right wing UK government minister at the time. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Portillo
'PoNtillo'. Yes - easy to forget now that he's on television most evenings posing as an avuncular train enthusiast, with an eccentric taste in pastel blazers, but at the time this sketch was recorded, Michael Xavier Portillo was manifesting as a crypto-fascist headbanger, a hang'em and flog'em merchant.
@@hackdaniels7253 its nuts how politicians 'change' after parliament. I viewed him as scum in Westminster but later on that political late night show ( cant recall the name) I thought he had really good ideas and insights!
The Andrew Neil one?
I don't why but the way they say m'colleague is just so sexy lol
P. S. Great actors, great comedians!
m'colleague, m'mate, m'friend, m'partner... "my my steady on"
mraow, Matron.
These two did great work together. Jeeves and Wooster (1990-1993) was brilliant, as they like to say...
I feel like this is an early version of "Has Anyone Ever Been Far Even as Decided to Use Even Go Want to Do Look More Like?"
M Pontillo went on to host Great British Trams.
Oh, that's great!
Fry & Laurie accurately predicting the quality of so many C21st Facebook comments....
My face is made up. Its so stupid its genius.
Country...spelt wrong. Haha
Lol, thanks.
I'd be falling out of my chair laughing if I got this. 🤣 One's persecutors never do seem able of conveying themselves comprehendibly do they? 🙂
Death threat
sound like something you hear of call on duty or discord
That punchline... They don’t like they used to.
"Dear Sir/Madam" Fry & Laurie ahead of their time...
In what way is that example ahead of their time? It's based on longstanding conventions. It could have been done in the 1960s.
That’s how formal letters are written m’friend, not some kind of a gender issue reference.
In old times you would just put dear sir at the top of a formal letter the sir or madam is a relatively recent thing.
Rowan Aboat that’s untrue
Jack Dawson no it isn’t, my mum used to work for the government and she would get letters saying dear sir.
And if you’ve seen Monty Python they had letters in their program which began dear sir
M' colleague! ❤
I wonder what the misspelling on "country" was, lol
Shame on the 3 that Disliked this.
Pity to the 3 that disliked this obvious lack of a sense of humour
This is where Jimmy Kimmel got the idea for Mean Tweets.
“Macaulay who”
PLOT TWIST!!!! like we did last summer......

"...this country..." (spelt wrong)
!
Pls forgive me ignorance but this is the actor who played the Dr with the pain med addiction yes?
Dr House, and yes
The letter should have ended with "All your base are belong to us."
This reminds me of the letter the WWF received from their cable channel. And then wrestlers read it to the audience.
From the time when stupid trolls had write actual letters
M Pontillo

The kind of nonsensical bollocks I get from people who don't agree with me...
Sounds like a standard youtube death threat comment.

Lol Micheal Portillo bashing
What has everybody got against Michael Pontillo, I find him engaging in his documentaries.
@@rebeccabrewer2221 He's a nasty rightwing twat who drinks real ale with Nigel Farridge.
In the good ol'days, he was a junior minister under the Tory PM Major, and got pummeled in the ensuing election. It's hilarious, there's a video somewhere over here of when they announced the results.

Covfefe
Whats the joke about "M pon tilo"? I don't get it and its annoying me so much
Michael Portillo
The joke is that anyone who wanted to send an anonymous death threat to get away with it would think of a good alias if signing the letter at all. Michael Portillo was at the time a famous politician (if not a very popular one: which politicians are popular?) So to sign the death threat with a fake name "M Pontillo", is funny because it is just changing one letter from the real name, "M Portillo", so at first we think he must be making the threat and just is not very bright, thinking of such a stupid name obviously so similar to his own name and identifying himself when he bothered to change it, suggesting he is trying to remain anonymous.
Then the joke becomes even funnier when Stephen and Hugh can't seem to guess who the threatening anonymous author is, "this M Pontillo, whoever he is...", because he's very famous, so now they look like the stupid ones, not just Portillo, who we still think may have actually written the note (and it is just ludicrous to think a famous politician would go round developing an irrational hatred of a famous comedian and send a death threat).
And then the final joke is Stephen just pretended he couldn't guess who the letter was sent by, of course, and failed in his endeavours :)
You might be interested to know that in real life, since the end of his political career, Michael Portillo is famous on TV for making documentaries, travelling around the world, particularly on trains (hence somewhere else in the comments someone made a joke about M Pontillo hosting "Great British Trams", a play on "Great British Railway Journeys"). Hope that helps!
Oh I don't like this. They seem to be making fun of that nice man who travels to nice places on trains and shows everyone what happened there.
This is basically every tweet/youtube reply I've received from Trump supporters lmao.
Did anyone - EVERYONE - see that coming. One more m'colleague and I would have paid for the bloody rocket launcher. Mention of male naughty bits do heat Frey
