I don't use a microphone for this. I just listen by ear. You can NOT use the dial to do this unless the lap is very badly out. The adjustments we're making will show very little on the dial, or not at all.
Most faceters don't have these extra tools - and ones that will seldom be used. So, we teach this "no extra tools" method. Also, the process of doing this method helps get fingers and ears "dialed in" to paying very close attention to feedback from the machine. So, we're training multiple things along with just learning the technique. If you want to use a dial indicator, you need a way to mount it securely. The deck is aluminum, and not smooth enough to work well with a suction cup mount. So, when we use one, we mount it to a dop in the quill. Set the machine to a hard stop, and you're all set. Just be careful where the probe touches the platen. It will easily slide off or move in ways that corrupt your readings. Hope this is helpful.
Thanks a lot for this video!! I am gonna do that tomorrow and check all my laps! Big thanks again this improve my cuts 🤩🙏🏻
Best of luck!
machinists use layout dye and hand scrapers to flatten the high areas, it can be done with very high precision
layout dye?
Muchas gracias maestro
Many thanks for this. As we do not have a microphone, could we not use changes in our dial indicator to determine the high point?

will facetron sell just the mast section with manipulator?
In the past, they would not. The company is under new ownership, so you should ask them.
