In this video we show how to fix a clogged, slow draining sink by removing and cleaning out the p-trap, which is also called a j-pipe. In my experience, this simple fix to unclog the drain by cleaning out the p-trap will allow your kithchen or bathroom sink to operate properly the majority of the time. This simple how to will allow you to do it yourself, unclogging your sink, saving yourself the cost of calling out a plumber. Basic plumbing DIYs can give you greater confidence to fix other common household problems moving forward.
In order to remove and clean your p-trap, you will need your hands, and something to catch water with. In this video, I used an old halloween bucket, but any bucket, pail, or large pot will be more than sufficient. After you remove the p-trap, you'll want to rinse it out from another water source, in this video I used my bathroom sink, but you can use a bathtub or shower, a yard hose, or anything else that will give enough pressure to push through the gunk and grime that builds up.

Thank you for this video. I learned today that rice shouldn't go down the disposal because it expands and causes the pipe to clog. 😱
Clearing the p trap fixed it right up! There was a lot of water, but it got cleaned up fine using a bunch of towels 🙃

We had some bubbling sound in the kitchen sink and the restroom toilet bowl also made some sounds and water level went very low. After some time, the sound has disappeared both in the kitchen sink and toilet. Will cleaning the pipe like in your video help?

In my experience, bubbling from the toilet + water level getting low in the bowl = a clog in your main drain. If this is a rental, notify your landlord. If not, then please check online if it could be anything else. You may need to call a plumber or rent a drain snake from a home improvement store

But what about if it is perfectly clean? Mine was fine until it was redone underneath now the water drains slowly with brand new underneath kitchen sink. P trap installed too high up? Not enough pressure it properly flow maybe?
