Even though she has toxic tendencies and behaviour traits, there is a side to her which is extremely relatable and true. Infact her toxic reactions towards murad stems from her own family and the society and the way she was/is treated. In a scene where she confronts her parents expressing how she wants to put on makeup and meet her friends and have a social life without lying to them, and her mother hits her for being honest. This is what the majority of girls in India actually go through. This also justifies her insecurity towards murad, she's afraid of losing someone who is a breath of fresh air almost an escape from her cruel mundane reality.

In my opinion, Aalia Bhatt is one the finest actors. The kind of movies she has done is only because of her performances in the previous ones in lieu. She maybe getting a benefit for being the daughter of a filmmaker, but she has equally wooed her audience with her talent. She's talented indeed. She was amazing in Highway, & Raazi.

How ironic , Toxic when done by Kabir Singh and badass when Safeena does it .
Not saying it's not toxic but Safeena's character has a backstory which explains her possessiveness. She had controlling parents, there was always too much pressure on her and she was forced to live a life where she couldn't express her true self. Murad was the only one who accepted her the way she was and she experienced absolute freedom whenever she used to be with him. So she was extremely possessive of him. Like she mentions in one scene "ek hi life hai aur ek hi tu hai". It is kind of understood where her jealousy emerges from. Kabir Singh's character never had any back story. He had understanding parents, a loving brother. There was absolutely no reason for him to have such an attitude and anger management issues. Maybe if had a back story which explained why he was the way he was, people would have reacted differently.
Having said all that, violence is never right; whether it's Kabir slapping Preeti or Safeena hitting Sky.
