I totally appreciate that you share what you do for your lessons & management in your classroom. I am a veteran teacher of 9 years BUT I have been out of the classroom raising babies for about 8 years (4 for the first 2 babies & 4 for the last baby) SO it’s VERY nice to have someone who shares their teaching practices with all the technology teachers use nowadays. Teaching is an ever evolving art & keeping up to date on tips tricks & practices is essential. Thank you always for sharing❤️

As a sub I agree with you. Some teachers leave next to none and some teachers leave so much that I feel inadequate when I am unable to complete everything so that all students understand the material or concept. I had a teacher tell me once that she put more work on her lesson plan than she had actually expected me to make it through. I wish I had known that the beginning instead of the end of the day.

I’m a sophomore in high school but am also a student athlete so college planning starts a little earlier than your typical student and I want to major in elementary education and seeing what it’s like to teach elementary school makes me that much more excited to graduate and hopefully become a teacher. It validates me because I’ve done the exact same templates for my students. The only thing that I found I had to edit was you need an extra regrouping Square in case you’re largest place value regroups, So a square for the thousands place on three digit +3 digit. I wasn’t smart enough to put the directions on mine! I love how clean and clear your materials are

I always have my struggling students turn their notebooks sideways and fill in the numbers within their own columns. Their scores shot up since alignment problems disappeared. Then we were able to start working on the conceptual challenges that they were dealing with

I'm Chandler I'm 11 and in fifth grade I failed 3rd grade because my math teacher would not let met raise my hand when I really needed help. I'm was supposed to be in 6th grade but I'm happy.

Chandler Jackson it is sad that you had a teacher who did not recognise and then teach to the fact that not every student learns at the same pace or in the same way. Repeating a grade was the wise thing for you do. I work with too many students who for a variety of reasons should have repeated a grade at some point but did not. Those students missed learning important basic tools for instance their times tables. Every year after the work was harder and more frustrating for them until they are now in 7th or 8th grade and are struggling to the point some have stopped even trying. It warms my heart to know you are not one of those students. Best wishes for the rest of your schooling.

Michelle when you have a chance can you talk a bit about how you learned to do all your technology stuff. Do you use a specific program on your computer. How you were able to format so that your students could enter the numbers correctly. And create your addition and subtraction sheets. Just interested to see your process. Would like to use technology more in my planning and classroom.

Happy birthday Michelle! I’ve just started watching your videos, and they are amazing.
I cant wait til you are able to make the addition/ subtraction algorythm sheets in your shop. My kids are in 2nd and 3rd grade and my 3rd grader is having sooo much trouble. He was Dx with ADHD, ODD and generalized anxiety and he freaks out every time when he has to "lined up " the numbers. I feel like Im failing him I havent been able to find a way to help him. I feel so bad when ever he looses it after spending an hour on math ... trying different ways but I am on a hunt for other ways and this looks pretty amazing and I already feel the light of hope this can bring him. I can't wait! :) Thank you!
In the mean time use graph paper when doing his work. Tell him each number goes in a box. I also have my students fill in zeros if it is a 4 digit number over a 3 digit number to keep it even. This will work as he goes into 4th grade too and is doing long multiplication and long division.
@@aprilr8119 I am assuming that the zero goes in front of the first digit in the three digit number i.e. 385 becomes 0385?
@@suzanneedmonds1566 I would just put a line through that ... 0385 is not 'real world' and might confuse the student?

Exactly and while 0385 might not be "real world" it is only in use of a math problem on paper in order to help line up numbers. Students (especially my special needs students) need all the tricks they can get. You also will have to eventually put zeros in for example when you do 67934 minus 189 turn it into 67934-00189. That way they can say they are subtracting 0 and not subtracting "nothing".

Absolutely LOVE your party math lesson!!!! (Happy Birthday to you!) Do you usually do guided math with math stations/centers or whole class (using the three part lesson and number talks)?
Super cool activity planning your b.day 😊 I had my kids build me a house with a pool and a guest house on a budget and it always turned out mega engaging and fun, I actually still have some of the best blueprints stashed away somewhere at school. Plus, a couple of students told me this activity helped them make their choice of vocation and they're studying either civil engineering or architecture and I was like yaaay, that's the purpose of our job as teachers, to inspire and show each of them they can be great at something if they put their minds to it.
