179k and FBO, runs strong. Well worth it if you actually take care of your BMWs, coming from a M54B30, to a S54 and then a N55 M235, this engine is awesome and easily upgraded to where you want it. Just keep up with the maintenance, if you buy used do all the works with the cooling, gaskets, and preventative maintenance and you’ll be fine.
There is a thing you can't really solve on a N54 , thats the water pump issue , my Pierburg pump just died within 800km due to the electrical issue , this is the most frustrating thing i can't solve in this platform ! 2nd , my newly installed 6x indexes 12 , running on B58 eldor coil + new plugs , still slightly misfiring .......... i am speechless . Good luck to all the N54 enthusiast out there
Love my n54. An 07 335i with 194k miles and still running strong🤗....hate all the HORRIBLE electrical issues that comes with it especially if you swap to led bulbs for the head and taillights😒
Unreliable? Sure, if you dont take care of your basic maintenance. Had a single turbo kit on my car for the past 15k miles with little to no issues because Ive stayed on top of my maintenance. These motors are sadly plagued by moronic owners who neglect taking care of their cars. Not overrated IMO, 700whp stock block + a banging 6 speed manual trans is perfection,
This was a really great video, and made me feel relieved that I did actually do all the necessary maintenance before even thinking of power. I absolutely love me 335i, it’s such a pleasure to drive every day.
Congrats! I got a 535i too, But I wish mine was a manual like yours {manual swap maybe?}. Mine had been abandoned for a couple years; so I know all about e60s that need a lot of maintenance 😂
Bro it’s 2025, NOBODY should have an n54 and not do a Di delete. just go with port Injection, you no longer need those expensive index 12, or the hpfp. And stand-alone Ecus all support this.
Awesome video, loved the NFS intro too.

Thanks, I appreciate it! If you liked this one check out my newest power rankings video covering the Honda K20/k24
B58 is now the new N54 and much more reliable sadly lol
Yes, but it's not cheap.
I say, if you know what are you doing 135i is a monster for the money?
I'm first ... To comment on my own video. About BMWs first Gasoline direct injected turbocharged engine
I’m second to comment on my friends video about German questionable but enjoyable engineering
3rd comment... I.just got a 08 535i n54 6spd, needs lots of manteinence parts

Damn you got a 5 series. Literally throwing money into an open flame pit.
@ LOL! two of them actually. The e34 that's getting LS swapped and the $289 junkyard rebuilt e60 535i

N54 is the best 💀 like Shi you do the right things and the engine will be just fine.
