  • Author Mattie Jackson Selecman joins Sadie to talk about the tragic death of her husband less than a year after their wedding. Mattie speaks with raw honesty about allowing herself to experience grief and how to love someone well through tragedy. She also offers heartfelt encouragement about learning to hold on to hope and how questioning God in hard times can truly deepen your faith. When you feel like God is silent, keep asking questions, and allow him full access to your heart. “Lemons on Friday: Trusting God Through My Greatest Heartbreak” is available now.

When I was 21 I loss my mother to cancer. When I was 22 I loss my father to ALS. I went to therapy but I been still struggling with my faith and why they had to died back to back like that. I still have had so much I needed them for. I got married without them their. And I cry most days over them. The question I wrestle with is why did God take my parents so soon.💔

I’m so thankful God hears the prayers we say through our tears because I have no words.

Sadie, you said you love God dreams so I thought I'd share with you the only crazy one that I have. A while back, I was having a lot of uncertainty in my relationship and my parents were also unsure about it. It was all giving me a lot of anxiety, which I already deal with very frequently. And I dreamed one night that I was talking to Jesus. It was in a weird place where I felt like I was partially awake but still asleep. I remember it was a two-way conversation, but once I woke up I didn't remember what was said. But I remember at the end of the dream I held Jesus' face in my hand. When I woke up I was miraculously anxiety free in a way that I was not used to for the whole day.

This message is for someone who needs to hear this and will fully understand it... You are not define by your circumstance or your past. It’s not what happened to you that determines your success in life; it is how you deal with those circumstances that determines your success in life. You are strong, you are capable and practice forgiveness (Forgiveness is for you; forgive your parents or anyone whom we have chosen to hurt us, to begin the process of healing and freedom. Remember: Forgiveness is for you to be freed, healed and happy. It’s a RESET BUTTON) and practice gratitude everyday. This will change the course of your life forever. Love you always and I believe in you wholeheartedly no matter what ✨❤️ - Nat

Wow wow wow! What a beautiful strongly Faith filled lady Mattie is. PTL. This story is absolutely heartbreaking but indeed, this story is truly blessing so many. *tear* Thank you for sharing this my sister in Christ. Btw, I’m in my 30s but always been an ol’ school country gal, and your Daddy, Alan, was the absolute best country concert I (and my husband) have ever been to!!!! We are in Iowa and it was at the Iowa state fair several years ago. Your family is just a beautiful God fearing family. We need more folks like y’all. ❤️❤️❤️🙏
