I've seen a lot of people wanting FA kind of speed in AC6, but I really don't feel like it belongs outside of FA and 4. The speed of NEXTs is what made those two games unique and is what keeps people coming back to it, and I'm glad Fromsoftware preserved that by making Armored Core 6 more like the games in the third generation.
I would like that someday we get something like 4/FA again, but AC6 is really nice meanwhile, the second best imo. I don't see the problem with them being different.
AC:FA is more movement/positioning oriented, whereas AC6 is more combo oriented. As long as my opponent isn't using X-SOMBRERO, I prefer AC;FA's combat over AC6. Both games are indeed super cool tho!
I will say, as someone who entered with 6, the HUD positioning in FA is objectively superior. Looking to the bottom left corner for health in AC6, the bottom middle for ACS and boost, the bottom right for the really small ammo counter and overheat alert, and the position of the head buildup bar on the target lock HUD element feels awkward. Putting it at the bottom forces them to shrink it because that's also where alot of enemies on your screen will be in PVE, that's where the ground and most environmental hazards are, and, I don't know if it's the same for everyone, but I find that with HUD at the top, I actually have better awareness. I have over 140 hours in 6, yet I still sometimes struggle to keep track of all the information that is needed. Watching gameplay videos of the two games, I've noted that I process the state of the POV player's AC much better in FA, despite having no experience with FA, which means the HUD is pretty well designed. Conveying information to someone who doesn't know the game better than AC6 conveys information to someone who has 100% beaten the game.
This may sound weird, but I wish AC 6 have some sort of HUD customization option where players can "drag and drop" the HUD parts. Personally I still like old Gen 1-3 HUD style, bright colours and all vital info are situated at the left or right side. And personally, I want a louder, panic inducing "generator energy depleted" alarm sound, instead of the AC 6 airline "Please Fasten Your Seat belts" chime.
i actually think both systems are fine, and think they build into the gameplay and the lore of the games, i think the reason ac4/a have their armour at the top is because it’s much more a reaction focused game, it’s higher speed, whereas ac6 seems to be a middle point between the very deliberate 1-3rd gen ac games and the speed and reaction times of 4th gen. it’s also interesting to note that NEXTs may be faster than ac’s due to lore reasons, as NEXTs are piloted similar to the way Eva’s are piloted in evangelion, where the pilots nervous system is linked with the NEXT, whereas in other AC’s the pilot simply controls the next with manual controls (iirc, i think there’s some trickery in ac6 with coral) but this seems to be conveyed in the gameplay, where ac1-3, 5-6th gens seem way more deliberate and slow, whereas 4th gen are blindingly fast. pretty interesting

I mean, I think we can objectively say some things are better. The controls are also a lot tighter and allow for a significantly higher skill ceiling. 6's absolute dependence for all combat to revolve around the stagger meter is frankly.. a trash design choice, in my opinion. Seems some people like it. But I think 6 dips a bit too far into typical arcadey Bandai mecha fare and doesn't stick to the grittier feel that the franchise traditionally is known for. And then of course tuning is basically absent in the game, with whatever they put in there instead being more like a leveling up system which in no way reflects the original concept. But those are all somewhat small issues, aside from my distaste for the stagger mechanic. I think 6 really trips over and falls when it comes to its levels. There's just no good PvP maps at all in the game. I really, really didn't like 5th gen, but they gave us a damn lot of really interesting maps to fight on and in 6 the levels seem to be an after thought versus the backgrounds. Like the game was designed to appeal more to the people watching the streams than to the people actually playing the game. It's really hard to go hours on end in PvP in 6 like we could in 4th or 5th gen. I wonder sometimes if that's because VD is still actively being played and they didn't want to have two AC games competing with each other for the same niche. But I think 6 will have a hard time keeping its player pop both high and happy over an extended period of time because of its absolute dedication to the campaign to the total detriment of the multiplayer aspect. Maybe with the sequel to 6 we'll see that fixed. It's kind of unfair for us to judge when we're comparing a sequel like For Answer, which fixed so many of 4's initial issues.

It's kind of unfair for us to judge when we're comparing a sequel like For Answer, which fixed so many of 4's initial issues.
tbh prefer ac4FA in customization like dual wield blade and the side shoulder weapon, combat pretty good for both AC4FA and AC6 but in term of speed prefered ac4fa fast movement and mech looks/design.
after playing AC4 and FA, I definitely prefer those two over 6 any day, they feel fluent and proper when it comes to movement and controls. Meanwhile 6 feels clunky and its AC vs AC battle feels more like "you get caught in the combo, you lose" which is boring and annoying
My only issue with ac6 is how the generator is just a stamina bar, it deostn feel unique to armored core, it feels a renamed stamina from dark souls.
Honestly I think this is the best implementation of energy in these games, generators are really unique and the only thing missing is cooling, but that's my personal preference
My man, have you seen the 1-3 gen AC games?!! Dark souls took their stamina bar from Armored core. AC franchise was a actually a large inspiration for the soulsborne design yet sadly remained unknown for a long time.
I bought for answer for 70 bucks gonna get like 100 hours on it and sell for profit 🤑🤑🤑
i dont know how someone can go from 4 to 6 and then think that 6's combat is better when its so one dimensional and funneled it makes me sick.
There are things about it that are better, it's not so cut and dry in my opinion
I don't like fast Armored Core. AC4 and 4A are actually the outlier. AC6 is closer to form.
Yes 4th gen are the outlier, but 6 is also an outlier
