I heard a story one time that Hank Junior gave him a shirt, The black one you see on Austin city limits performance... that wasn’t just stage he wore that shirt every day didn’t wash it and never took it off.. The tour bus even signed a petition asking him to take it off because it was so rank, Stevie did not change that shirt until he come across another one he liked better...

I think a lot of non musicians dont realize that; they say like: "well he is so talented", talent is one thing but being good at something still requires so much practice which most people dont realize.

Adrian Avila he was the first to credit the 3 kings as major influences, as well as Jimi, billy gibbons, Clapton etc etc. every great developed on the shoulders of the giants that came before them. That being said, Stevie took what had been done and truly elevated the genre through his talent. He transcended musically because of his otherworldly talent. This guy had no idea who SRV's brother was. Jimmie Vaughan, some have argued, is a better guitar player than his younger brother Stevie. Within the blues community, Jimmie was famous before Stevie even graduated high school. Jimmie introduced Stevie to all the right people and that's how SRV got a recording contract. And the "you were discovered by Mick Jagger" crap He wasn't "discovered" by anybody. He was flying on the coat-tails of his older brother. And it was David Bowie, not Mick Jagger, who offered Stevie a job. SRV, intelligently, declined Bowie's offer and started his own band, Double Trouble.
When asked if he is he is the fastest guitar in Texas, he humbly answers well , if someone wants to battle I do it from time to time as he bows his head in shyness then looks up with the smile of a gun slinger .

Knuckles Malone It's hard to find reasons to go through the misery and pain of getting clean after over 30 years of addiction. I hope you are able to find a reason for you and get the medical help a person needs to get well. Best of luck, It can be done and it's worth it.

Of course scrolling through the comments and opening this one lead me to your message and I went and watched it again as soon as this video ended. I use to be sad and not angry but maybe a bit frustrated he was taken from us so soon. I was 8 and a half when I got the news. My mom actually told me as we were putting our shoulder pads in the trunk after little league football practice. It’s a moment I’ll never forget. For me personally, even though I’d never met him, it was the first person i “knew” who passed. For years I was selfish in only thinking MAN! Imagine the music he would have created, the people he would have collaborated with, etc etc...all music based. Now? Now I am maybe more sad than ever bc after watching that again it resonated in a whole different way than before. The advocate and voice he would have been for addiction and helping people would have been amazing. He was so open about it and breaks it down to the most simple purest form to where maybe just maybe someone who has never had any addiction problems could understand. I don't agree that they had something that can't be replaced. I don't think either of these legends and great human beings can or should be 'replaced', or that anything ABOUT either of them can or should be 'replaced', but I do believe that both of them would agree that what they brought to the world is something that exists in all of us and that first and foremost, we should be seeking to find that within ourselves and share it with each other. Maybe we don't need to aspire to be guitar heroes, but to share that humility and love for one another. To make a REAL difference that will outlast us. Show the world that you are vulnerable and a human being that can be hurt just as they can, and you will have the respect and love of many because you are exposing your heart in a way that most people are too afraid to.
Both of those guys had time to play a lot before getting famous. Every kid with talent these days winds up on YT, and gets at least temporarily well known. The drive to work hard enough, for long enough, takes time to grow into an insatiable hunger that makes the great ones great.
His song he started playing at 6:43 called Life Without You.. I love that song and can relate to it so much. Man, even during his using years he was still a humble gentle human.. but I can't even imagine how much his characteristics really shinned and came out after he got sober. As a recovering addict myself you can just look at him and sense hes using.. maybe even under the influence during this interview. As a recovering addict myself, you get like 6th sense to that stuff. But after he got sober in 86 ive heard and read stories in recovery about how Stevie would take time out of his day and listen to peoples stories and encourage them to keep going with sobriety. Him getting sober brought his guitar playing to a whole nother level, too. Not only one of the best musicians of all time, but one of the best, nicest, humble human to ever bless this world. His music and personality is still touching people till this day. 🎸🤠🙏🏾🇨🇱

EVERYTIME I get sick of my guitars, I come on here and watch some SRV, and it gives me the motivation to keep on going, just like his little radio would have for him, well his brother, who is a great player, SRV is my personal fav, trying harder and harder to capture some of his music and put it into my own, no way can I play with 13 gauge strings though, 10s are as high as I like to have mine
He is the easiest going super star ive ever watched in an interview. Stevie was just a real down to earth man, Very open to talk to and does not act better than everyone else like most of them these days.
So sad to see him when he was in the midst of addiction. He really came alive after he got sober. Sadly, we probably never saw the best he had to give us. What he left us is a treasure though. One of a kind... 30 years later, he's still. Sorely missed.
Met Stevie Ray at Stubbs Barbecue in Lubbock Tx 1978 or 79. He and his band was very nice and humble. They talked to their fans after the show. To this day I'm still a huge SRV fan and I'll continue to buy any of their music. RIP Stevie Ray!
It is a testament to the kind of man he was that even at the time when he was consuming industrial amounts of coke he did not come off as a hyper douchebag like most would, but rather as a humble and kind man.

Stevie struggled with drugs and seemed to be at his personal best when clean. And then he died. I wasn’t really into him at that time, yet I realized that he had just sobered up...and when I heard he died in a helicopter crash (I remember where I was at the time), my heart broke. A real legend.

Very few originals come along in this world....and he was one of the great one. He was real from the heart and it came through in his music like few others....modern day "artists" could learn loads from this legend.

Him getting sober brought his guitar playing to a whole nother level, too. Not only one of the best musicians of all time, but one of the best, nicest, humble human to ever bless this world. I love hearing him sing softly given that you almost exclusively hear him powerfully belting out his songs.
EVERYTIME I get sick of my guitars, I come on here and watch some SRV, and it gives me the motivation to keep on going, just like his little radio would have for him, well his brother, who is a great player, SRV is my personal fav, trying harder and harder to capture some of his music and put it into my own, no way can I play with 13 gauge strings though, 10s are as high as I like to have mine
He is the easiest going super star ive ever watched in an interview. Stevie was just a real down to earth man, Very open to talk to and does not act better than everyone else like most of them these days.

So sad to see him when he was in the midst of addiction. He really came alive after he got sober. Sadly, we probably never saw the best he had to give us. What he left us is a treasure though. One of a kind... 30 years later, he's still. Sorely missed.
Met Stevie Ray at Stubbs Barbecue in Lubbock Tx 1978 or 79. He and his band was very nice and humble. They talked to their fans after the show. To this day I'm still a huge SRV fan and I'll continue to buy any of their music. RIP Stevie Ray!

It is a testament to the kind of man he was that even at the time when he was consuming industrial amounts of coke he did not come off as a hyper douchebag like most would, but rather as a humble and kind man.
He went through some things and a lot were self induced but he put those things to good use and gave us all his heart through his music.

Stevie struggled with drugs and seemed to be at his personal best when clean.
And then he died. I wasn’t really into him at that time, yet I realized that he had just sobered up...and when I heard he died in a helicopter crash (I remember where I was at the time), my heart broke.
