A great effect to make the intro look more retro and analog is the "Wiggle Effect" in After Effects. Add a tiny bit of random wiggle and with the flickering, it looks way 80s. Great tutorial!
your gunna hate me.. but by sizing the S and R up you made the line weight wayyyy bigger. i can't unsee. but still. really great job. you got a new fan :)
This video is simply covering the basics of this opening! If you have any questions about the more advanced techniques seen in the official version you can feel free to ask! I'd be happy to help you out. _Here are some questions that I have already answered:_ *How do I get the lighting on the letters themselves?* bit.ly/2ax0aeg *Some of the letters morph, how would I make the left side of the G change?* bit.ly/2aAQ0dU
are you fucking serious, you get 17 minutes in and then start over? how about disclaiming that at the start of the video, or not uploading at all? fucking moron.
hahaha holy shit. we have the same brain. first thing i noticed was that fucking sweet red fade. my friend's were like.. "its just fading dude, calm down"
Thanks for this helpful walkthrough. Definitely learned some things new things about watching other people's workflow. Quick suggestion - maybe get a video plugin that show's what hotkey's you are pressing? Some of us newbies appreciate learning new hotkeys from the pros!
Just starting this but I was JUST looking at recreating this myself. Got close but I'm not exactly happy with it. Hoping you can get me the rest of the way! :)
How I would do it is first design the logo in Illustrator to create a vector, then I'd cheat the texture and uneven lighting in Photoshop, save and import each letter separately, and then basically do what you did with the animation. Your technique for the credits is a lot simpler than I imagined though. What I would have done is duplicated a white text layer fading to black, make it red, and offset it slightly. Not the most efficient solution. With a bit of tweaking of your effect though, it would look perfect.
Good ideas! Sounds like a more finished way to achieve it. The duplication of the text would've worked as well, didn't even think of that. Ever since I started using the text animation tool I've been addicted to it, very helpful.
Very nice. Except you overlooked the fact that the stroke width on all the letters are the same originally. In yours, the larger letters have a larger stroke width. Also, I'm pretty sure the original was done in 3D (I know you're simply showing how to accomplish this animation in specifically after effects, just sayin.) The giveaway there is that the letters look like tubes for outlines rather than just flat 2D ones like you did here.. maybe there's a way to get that done in after effects, I don't know.
How much to render this for me with custom text at 1920X1080? How much to actually purchase the after effects project as a template (I only have cs5 though)? Have you been playing with this at all after the initial upload. I just ask because I see some good comments down below and I am wondering if you have an improved template.
You can purchase the project file for this over at sellfy.com/p/Zt3T/ If you are running CS5 it won't work. You'll need CC 2014 and up. If you'd like to talk about me making some adjustments to it for you, you can contact my business email caleblancaster@live.com
Great job! I purchased your project file, but I get the following missing effect warnings when opening: S_Flicker and: 2 dependencies are missing: 1) Text Layer: Font family: “AXIS”, Font style: “ExtraBold” 2) Text Layer: Font family: “NexaBold”, Font style: “Regular” Wondering if you could help me out with this?
s_flicker is a third party sapphire effect that can be purchased here: www.genarts.com/sapphire/after-effects AXIS and NexaBold are two fonts that are used in the ending part of the piece, where it says, "Created By Caleb Lancaster", AXIS can be downloaded here: www.behance.net/gallery/17890579/axis-typeface while NexaBold can be downloaded here: www.fontfabric.com/nexa-free-font/
Most stuff like that is done through CGI and compositing, which is something I could try at, but not something I'm very familiar with. Most of the stuff getting "destroyed" isn't actually there, more times than not, they were put there in post. Take a look at some tutorials on CGI and compositing!
I tried to make the letters in Photoshop. It worked so far.
I was able to achieve the light effect by using the Light Sweep effect in AE.

i can't unsee.
but still. really great job. you got a new fan :)
I see what you mean! This is by no means perfect, but still very fun to put together. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Try using Illustrator to make the logo, rather than just manipulating text.
are you fucking serious, you get 17 minutes in and then start over? how about disclaiming that at the start of the video, or not uploading at all? fucking moron.
ALSO, you don't package the fonts or state where to get them, and the effect.
why being so rude? take it easy bro
Pls make more of these, they're supper helpful! Thanks!!
dude!
i love this. was totally thinking about trying to replicate it myself!
hahaha holy shit. we have the same brain.

very cool. its like a vector version. I like it.
After Remaking this intro myself i am now finding hundreds of tutorials on it..... guess i got on the right hype train O . O

I will look into it! Great suggestion, and I'm glad you learned a thing or two!
Did he really recreate stranger thing's opening at 1am. The guy has it all worked out

Love your videos man! I don't even have after effect but I still love these.
About the line that shows above the text you've had to redraw it, thats why you had those strange "filled squares" at each side of those lines.
That's correct, watching this back I realized what the problem was. Shouldn't make videos like this at 1 AM, lol

im still not able to achieve that effect when those letters come close especially N and G, they dont overlap in the original title
Why don't you make more of these tutorials? These are great.
Why did you change the style videos you make?

s-flicker from sapphire costs over $1,000 is there a cheaper option?
Is there a way to put whatever letters in instead? I want to make an intro for my channel and I'm just wondering if it is possible.
You can, but more than likely you'll need to adjust the speed and spacing of the letters themselves.
thank you so fucking much, caleb.
When you track RANG, something stays in the middle, but my RANG does something completely different, can you help me?
How to get those effects? It means edge glow, camera shake...
could you make a tutorial on lmaking telekinesis effects like eleven does and such? A more realistic death push?

You should do these live
That would be very fun. When I get some internet/computer upgrades I will look into it!
:D
One day I recreate the whole thing on Cinema 4D
Song at 8:08?
You only made half of it
