    Shirley here, I have always ate fruit high in antioxidants, and I steam all my dark green vegetables for years. I am lucky to avoid cancers and I am 73.

    Your videos have been so beneficial during my time with my diagnosis and chemo treatments. You’re the reason I was so well prepared for my chemo sessions. I don’t have breast cancer I was diagnosed with lymphoma but the prep and all these informative videos have truly been a lifesaver! Thank you so much for always being so vulnerable, transparent, and helpful. I know God will continue to utilize you and your testimony to help others along with their journey with this horrible disease.

    Thank you for the tips. The tips that you have given have me feeling more confident about starting chemo on the 29th. I just got diagnosed with breast cancer on may 24th and I’m very scared about chemo as i’am 24 years old and have three kids. Seeing that you’re a two time survivor, I keep telling myself that if you can beat it two time I myself should be able to beat it!

    I also suggest avoiding caffeine products. The acid in coffee and black teas will also introduce acid into an already sensitive tummy/stomach lining. Plus it will feed any anxiety issues you may have. Just my humble NOT a dr. opinion. Lastly WATER, WATER and MORE WATER...

      @@MarinaBlackford I'm beyond blessed with what happened to me Marina! Stage 4 metastasized to the bones and with a discovered DNA mutation that would make me resistant to treatment. And during my check up to see if anything was working, to everyone's surprise, it was all gone! A miracle I was healed! We decided to continue treatment as a precaution for 3 additional treatments and I'm am officially in remission and back to work, thank God! Local media here in Miami covered my story and journey from beginning to end. God is great...

    Hi Marina :
    I' have a routine now of every other night of what I call speed walking . I do it for my mental health. Saying things out loud as I walk fast . Accepting cancer which is a biggy for me . Accepting the post side effects of chemo & radiation.
    I'm not sure yet of " remission".
    That's soon.

    I just had my first chemo 1 week ago. I cant seem to eat anything but soggy frosted flakes. I normally eat lots of fruits, veges, smoothies, etc. Anything but soggy frosted flakes makes me really sick. Does this get any better?

    • @kadams3029
      @kadams3029 4 місяці тому +1

      For me, the first round of chemo was the worst. I've also had weird food issues where I can only eat one or two things, but that's generally only in the first week of each cycle and, oddly, it's a different thing each time (hummus, tomato sandwiches, rice and peas, etc). If you're on 3-week cycles, you should be able to eat pretty normally at least half the time. The only long-term issue I've had so far is that my mouth has gotten very sensitive, so I can't tolerate anything more than mild spiciness or acidity anymore. In general, I think it gets easier both physically and emotionally once you know what to expect, so hopefully things will get better for you from here on.

    • @Liz0409
      @Liz0409 4 місяці тому +1

      @@kadams3029 Thank you. It is very encouraging to hear that chemo got easier with each infusion. I have always heard that it gets worse and worse and this first round was so rough that I wasn't sure what to expect next. It has been a week and a half now and I do feel a lot better. However, I am definitely dealing with some side effects still.

    • @MarinaBlackford
      @MarinaBlackford  4 місяці тому +1

      Hi Liz! I do feel like the nausea can get better after the first dose of chemotherapy. Your body knows a little bit more what to expect and you can manage those symptoms by adjusting when you eat and what you eat. The fatigue tends to get worse as time goes on though. I want you to eat what you can, but I know getting good nutrients in you will support your immune system. play around with foods that would work for you. I was a big fan of Mediterranean food during chemo. So like chicken Shawarma with rice and vegetables, something like that.

      Well it varies but it can take 2-6 months to feel better. Then a full year after that to get a hold on how your energy is.

    My mum had stage 3 ovarian cancer and we went for chemotherapy therapy and everything was good after that. But after 3 months we did ca -125 blood test, it came out to be 260.2. So went for PET scan in which it showed small amount of cyst in one area. Can anyone please suggest, what is the possible line of action that could be done in this scenario ?

      Hi Shirley! True. It does not save me money to do the meal kits but it saves me meal planning and shopping time AND I’m eating more veggies and meals I wouldn’t know to make. So it’s worth it versus eating out.

    One more thing which milk is good for cancer survivors in ur opinion Oat milk or almond milk or anything else

    • @MarinaBlackford
      @MarinaBlackford  10 місяців тому +2

      I like both of those if they are organic. I also prefer no “gums” in them if possible.

    • @lf7065

      Organic soy milk has the most protein in, and we need protein for repair during chemo. 🙂

  • @bobs1356
    @bobs1356 Рік тому +1

    Shirley again don't take this the wrong way but how was your diet before u got your cancer? Just wondering..

    • @MarinaBlackford
      @MarinaBlackford  Рік тому +2

      Some organic, a variety with some fruits and veggies. I ate more carbs like tortillas and fries. I still like those but eat less of it! I drank more alcohol is the biggest difference. I was 31 and single and went to the bar, happy hour or brunch every weekend. So probably 6 drinks a week or weekend. I drink way less now. Maybe 2-3 drinks a month. I didn’t drink any alcohol during chemo.

      I personally would wash and eat fruits and vegetables as well as cooked. I would rather skip “deli meat” due to risk of infection over produce.
