I sought this years ago. I had no idea where to go or whom to seek. I trusted no one then and certainly no one even more so now. Interesting. Well, if i ever need a monastery i will seek an orthodox one. I will come to work. Keep me busy.
Are there monasteries that can offer temporary housing in exchange for work? ( I posted a comment previously but I think it was deleted and it was not spam)
You can be an inquirer at you local Orthodox church first. They offer classes and simply attending services can answer a lot of your questions. I'm not sure what Father Peter would say but that is my recommendation for your first step. In other words start at the shallow end of the pool first. My first time I went to a week day liturgy and observed from the back of nave. After the service I talked to the priest. (baby steps)
We are not supposed to praise people for their virtue or gifts in Orthodoxy because of the temptation for pride and vainglory in the one praised. Please delete this comment.
@@ElonMuskrat-my8jy ah sorry, I’m a newbie inquirer from a charismatic non-denom background, so I forgot the guidance from the Holy Fathers against praise. Thank you for the correction!
So how can I (non-Orthodox) visit a monastery? I don't want to impose, but I want to talk to someone. I don't want to bother a priest, as they are busy. Can I write a letter to a monk? What about a letter to a priest?
Hey are you an electrical student ? I just saw breadboard with jumpers on your picture. I also would like to go and see a monastry especially from Athos
Reach out to your local Priest. They can be busy for you too. Attend the Liturgy for a while and when you have a sense of the way it's supposed to be reach out to your local Monastery about visiting.
Can you suggest good lectures, videos in English, Greek on bible studies? I am an Orthodox Christian from Russia. I've watched almost everything in Russian. I want to watch something serious, for example, from a Greek school. Maybe one of the scientists went to excavations in Palestine. Can you tell me the names of the scientists who can be viewed on UA-cam?
Well Jordan Peterson has pretty cool lecture on the Bible. Sure it’s more psychological and secular, but still interesting. He interprets stories from the Bible and how they relate to our psyche.
@@Gusararr I don't like Peterson. I watched it. I came across Wesley Huff's debates. You can see that he understands the topic of primary sources well. In Russia, Metropolitan Tikhon organized amazing courses at the Sretensky Seminary. They covered history, dogmatics, and liturgics. I also liked the documentary films from the Neofit studio about the prophets. Including about the prophet Elijah. There, biblical scholars from Jerusalem told interesting things. Look for Татьяна Нотариус пророк Илия in Russian. I wonder what the Greek biblical scholars say. In Russia, biblical studies died in connection with the revolution.
@@acekoala457 In Russia his comments are published as Theophylact of Bulgaria. I am interested in what the science of Biblical studies, hermeneutics says today about the Gospel. The historical context of that time. There is almost no serious literature in Russian, and the science itself was banned for 70 years. Although before the revolution we had good scientists at the Moscow Theological Academy. One of the Serbian patriarchs studied with us.
My spiritual Father is very authoritarian gets angry and says you need pilgrimate then don't come back when you think someone knows something better than me.
Pray for him. Priests aren't infallible and make mistakes like us, but they are also priests for a reason. Be patient and ask the Lord to guide you both.
The monastery was the only place in my life where I felt both at true peace and safe.
Makes two of us. I was at St Herman’s of Alaska. Never felt inner peace like I did.

GLORIFY HIM ! ❤
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all Orthodox Christians ☀🙏✝🕊
I wholeheartedly agree with your statements regarding the value of visiting monasteries. 😊
Next year I am gonna take a week to visit Life Giving Trinity in Tennessee. I was told by a Geronittsa to go there.
I think I’m ready, forgive me Lord have mercy on me a sinner.

Yes.
Reach out first to the Monastery. I have met many Inquirers at Monasteries.
I made a day trip up to St. Anthony's when I was an Inquirer.
That's how I started. One month later, I spoke with the priest monks about becoming a catechumin, shortly after I recieved a blessing to begin❤
Only if you can answer their riddles.

Edit: Thank you for this timely video, Father! I just met with my priest to ask some questions about the monastic life.

@elumy97 No problem. Glad to hear you are looking into Orthodoxy and monasticism.

Contact the monastery however you can, call, email, write a letter and just ask them. Don't be afraid, nothing wrong with asking questions.

Look for the Commentary on the Gospels by St. Theophlact of Ohrid.
They are the best Commentary, better than anything on YT.
