Mmm , what a pleasant change, a govt with ministers that have brain cells, great to follow their progress so far, finally some green positive shoots appearing.

The social housing builds suffer from the same issues as school builds - lots of nice to haves but not necessary have been built in.Many social housing tenants live next door to private homeowners who have far fewer nice to haves! Also with the many terraced homes and apartments there are no guarantees they will outlast the old solid social house builds now deemed unacceptable!

I long for some acknowledgment from the current government that these issues did not happen 'overnight'. The Nats were in government for 9 years before Labour's 6. At least Labour had the excuse of Covid. Please stop blaming each other and acknowledge that no government has been perfect. Look forward, be positive, and just do your best. ( FYI I am a swing voter, bearing no allegiance to any party.)

Value for money is the primary priority when investing in infrastructure. Nice to have, bespoke infrastructure should be left to private enterprise who can fund it without having to keep upping tax take or government borrowing to do so. Many of the new public school buildings provided in the past few years have been specially designed nice to haves with many unnecessary, costly bells and whistles. The Ministry must change its build criteria so that they can build and provide school property that is fair and equitable across the board at good value for money. Local schools should not be showpiece for all the nice to haves, bespoke builds at the cost of other schools. Good prefabricated, repeatable designs share the funding equitably. New prefabs are not the same as the old, single glazed, vinyl floored box with a chalkboard/whiteboard at the front.

Warm, dry classrooms? I went to high school in the 80s. The headmaster made sure that the heat was only on from 8 to 8.30am, to "make us tough". He'd be turning over in his grave if he could hear this.
    Let him turn.

"Pipeline". You keep saying that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
"Backlog" is the word you're looking for, Erica.
