HELP! He's Keeping His Ball Python All Wrong
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 лют 2025
- My friend Sethward has been keeping a snake for many years - and his information on how to keep a ball python is very outdated. Today I'm bringing Sethward in to the Green Room to talk about how he's keeping his snake and see if we can improve his husbandry so his snake can live a healthy and happy life. Lots of good info for beginner snake keepers in this one - and even for people who have kept snakes for many years!

Thanks for all the help Bob! It was so great getting to chat and meeting all the lovely Sneks!!! Also thanks for not ripping me a new one everybody!!!
I so appreciate you coming by and letting us do that on camera! I'm confident your snake is going to be very healthy and happy and I think this video is going to help a lot of people. Thanks Sethward!!
We’ve all been here Sethward 🙏🏼 It’s a new interesting journey for all of us and having a source of knowledge like Bob is so helpful, and Kent helps too…who else could get such a high level of video quality from that ol VHS camcorder? The man is a genius
@@MiBackpacking 😅😅
Thank you for doing this video with Bob! You were such a good sport! Huge props! Give our love to O'Fatlia 💟
Thank you so much for doing this!! Not only will your gorgeous snake have a better life but I feel like another snakes life may be saved by this video. ❤️
I applaud his willingness to be open to improving his husbandry. I can only imagine how exposed it must feel doing this on camera.
right? I am amazed
Yes, that's hard to do! I really appreciate him
It really was awesome to see and he was so receptive. I love this style of video. It's an awesome learning space.
This should be an HGTV series! Get sponsored by companies who make products you would use and then go to people’s homes and upgrade their reptiles enclosures and teach upgraded care tips 😄 especially great because you have a kind and nonjudgmental attitude about outdated practices. And even better when your guest has such an incredible story! Sethward was so fun and those costumes are phenomenal 😍 also your community and these comments are so beautiful and positive, love to see it 🥰
Thanks so much! That would be a fun show to do for HGTV :-)
Oh my God, I just got my first ball python and first reptile this weekend and I named him Sethward. And then this video gets published on Monday. It's a sign. Was on the fence but he is definitely a Sethward now.
It's a great name, congrats on your new snake!
Kudos to the guy for actually wanting to learn.
He's on his way to becoming an excellent snake owner just because of that
True!
It's amazing how open both of you are, especially your friend. He is so willing to learn and doesn't get defensive as most people would.
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Mannn, HUGE props to Sethward for being open to learn after having his same habits for so long. And for having the humility to do this video!! If I were in his position I probably would have been beet red the whole time, if not in tears 😅 And this is actually the perfect video for me to show to my friend! It's hard to get him to watch anything at all, and I didn't know which video to show him, but this one is a perfect culmination! Thank you Bob! And Sethward!
Glad you liked this one!
You don't know unless you ask or have been showed by someone who DOES KNOW...
BOBS THE MAN ...
😎👍
In the often contentious environment on the internet today this video is SO IMPORTANT. How to have a conversation with someone else who doesn't know what they don't know- WITHOUT ever attacking or shaming them. The Yes And principle of improving information without arguing.
Glad you like this one!
I think it is incredibly brave to stand there and say “please teach me he right way to do it” in today’s hard social media climate. So a BIG applause for that!!! 👏👏👏
I must also say that I feel a bit proud to have researched for over a year before we bought our first snake.
Well done!
It is so difficult when you get misinformation from pet stores and "experts" because you feel like you're doing all the right things for your beloved pet. Love the spirit of this engagement because it is a gentle reeducation. Sethward obviously wants to do what's best for his noodle and just needed the right resource for good information. Great approach to reorienting a person who loves his BP with the correct info. Thanks for another great video, Bob!
Thanks so much, glad you liked it!
Sethward was funny and very accepting of constructive criticism during this video. Really cool video, thanks Bob, Kent, and future bob!
Glad you liked it!
I’m hardly through the video, but I love the teaching going on here- teaching people about basic husbandry, reminding everyone to be KIND, new people can learn what they don’t know even after 20 YEARS! Love it!
I'm glad you're enjoying this one!
This was a GREAT video. A person that knows how to teach and a person that knows how to learn. Both interacting amazingly with no judgement or being defensive towards new ways of doing things. I am amazed, communication 10 out of 10. This video made my day so much better haha
Thank you so much, I appreciate that!
Thank you for addressing the "bashing" that soooo often happens in places like Facebook groups and stuff... people act so holier than thou when they are behind a keyboard and forget what it was like when they were first learning about snake husbandry. Everyone had to start at the beginning!
You've got the COOLEST friends. Sethward is awesome, his mustache is SO epic, and I love how open he was to updating his husbandry. I was told many of the same things he was when I got Nagini 10 years ago from a pet store, and she has been so much happier since I updated my care for her a few years ago. This was a super fun video! Sethward is hilarious, and I want to torment Kent by showing up in a cobra suit the next time I come visit. 😂
Amy, please show up in a cobra suit!!
Amy, thanks for sharing your experience with your first snake and the pet store. I'm sure it's going to make other people feel better.
@momakajean Of course! I'm not the only one who has acquired animals on an impulse. While I do encourage people to research BEFORE bringing an animal home (seriously, learn from my mistakes), I also encourage people to always be open to updating your animal care and husbandry. We learn new things about these animals every day; just because we are doing well today, doesn't mean we can't do better tomorrow!
Im glad you gave him those things when you first started recommending buying inexpensive items I was yelling to you via my phone screen 'just give him one now and show him how to use it!!"
The whole " I thought they were making love!! " and the " OOPS THATS MY BUTT " killed me. Make more content together please. I love yall. ❤
Aw thanks, we'll probably do another video!
Those poor snakes but this shows if you're not fully sure if something what the behavior is to try to find out. Not that it's always easy with reptiles to find the right facts.
i love how this is a dual teaching video especially bringing up to people to politely educate everyone instead of always tearing someone apart. love the positivity!!
Thank you, I'm glad you liked it!
Of all the reasons you listed for viewers being here, you forgot those of us who just love your content so much we watch all your videos🥹💖 Great video as always, thanks Bob! 🤗
Awww, thanks!!
I love your approach to educating people and not shaming them! Great advice
Thanks so much!
This is such an important video! Please extend my sincere thank you to your amazing friend for being so open and honest. I figured everyone knew you needed to have 2 hides & thermostats. I forgot how much research I did prior to getting my first BP. A snakes life will be saved somewhere because of this video. 🐍❤️🐍
Thanks Lori, I'm glad you appreciated this one!
I loved the fact that when you were talking about using tongs and you cut to the video of you doing it that you jumped when it struck. I feel like an idiot every time i jump when i feed them but knowing you do to makes me feel a lot better!
He definitely startled me! I didn't think he was ready to strike 😅
@@GreenRoomPythons I just thought id be used to it by now but they get me...every time😅
Great video, really appreciate Sethward's willingness to learn and grow as a snake keeper, and Bob's perspective on educating without shaming. I think everyone in the reptile hobby could benefit from taking some notes from both of you and remembering to always be open to hearing other perspectives and new information without feeling the need to be defensive, as well as to always try to have empathy when you're helping people improve their husbandry, especially when they're the ones reaching out to you with questions and showing a clear interest in learning how to do better.
Yes, agreed, glad you liked this one!
Bob, you and Sethward were so good together. That video was very informative because you had a perfect example standing right beside you. Sethward, thanks for adding so much to the education of snake people.
Thanks so much Mom, I'm glad you liked it. I was quite proud of this video:-)
I am so glad that you took the time to actually EDUCATE and not JUDGE him for not knowing. This is so important!! Great job!
Thanks for doing this video guys! I'm glad he was open to learning updated information on husbandry and his attitude on wanting whats best for his snake. I wholeheartedly agree with you on being patient and understanding instead of mean when someone doesn't know something. Everything is learned and you can't know what you don't until someone else gives it to you.
Glad you liked the video!
This is a great video! I’m so glad Sethward was happy to do this on camera- it must have been really difficult to do. I’m so glad he’s open to learning, just like we all should be. 😊
We don't know what we don't know! I love how willing to learn he was! 😊
I've improved my ball python care over the years. I used to feed mine in the bathtub as well. But I have since stopped. I also got a thermostat for her and stopped using a heat pad and got a ceramic heat emitter
That's great!
This video is perfect. I thought I was doing ok, and I am, but you just gave me solutions to at least two issues I didnt know how to google. Thank you!
I'm glad it was helpful for you!
Omg I’m soooo proud to finally see my name up with the Horde or Keepers! Proud to be supporting you and your wonderful channel too! Xxxx ❤❤
Thank you so much for the support!
Props to both of you.. I liked the video when you gave him the thermostat..
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed it!
Cool video! I think Sethward's snake will be happy with her upgrades! I think it's super important to be kind and helpful rather than just scolding someone about their mistakes and you guys were great! 😊
Thanks Sarah, glad you liked it!
I love the way you approached this! It's sad that people who are trying to learn get ripped to shreds in most FB groups. I had to laugh at myself, though, because as an autistic person, I have never had a "casual" hobby. Hyperfocus or nothing, and so it still surprises me sometimes that the average person isn't like that, lol.
Great video. I was that guy... I got my first ball python in 1989, and by todays standards, my husbandry was terrible. As we/I learned more about keeping a snake, my husbandry changed a lot. I'm going to start with a definition "beginner snake". My definition is a snake that is robust enough that is can survive husbandry mistakes most of the time... and we all make mistakes. These aren't Dragon Snakes that maybe 10 people in the world can keep alive.
What the hobbyists who jump down the throat of people who are using poor husbandry should consider is, pet owners like Sethward are not going to be receptive toward alarmist "your snake is going to die" attitudes, because most of the time you're wrong. Barring a failing heat mat, your snake can live more than 20+ years with red heat lights, aspen bedding, and a small enclosure. It is more accurate to say that the long lived snake is not living their best lives, and improving husbandry will make them happier and healthier.
Bob's way of approaching this is great. Thanks for the video.
Do you still have that ball python, mine (normal ball python) will be 30 next year, and I'm curious of how long they live on average, the record seems to be 62 years.
@@colinjava8447 sadly, he died at age 22.😥
@@pencildragon1961 Sorry to hear that, but that's a good age still, I read 20-30 but it's only in the last 20 years that people have been buying so many cause of all the morphs, so hard to know the average age I guess.
@@colinjava8447 Morphs were not a thing when Baldrick the Ball Python was hatched. Given his poor husbandry, and he had terrible sheds and spend a bunch of time soaking in a bathtub, he definitely did not live his best life. With modern husbandry, I haven't has a bad shed from any of my pythons since I switched bedding from aspen, and started monitoring humidity There were no "good old days" because the knowledge and the technology have improved so much..
Thank you for pointing out early on that you're not here to shame, that you want to teach.
It's so frustrating seeing people get dogpiled in some circles and turned away from the hobby because they were given outdated info or taught the wrong care. The only time we should be frustrated is when they are unwilling to learn and change.
Great video. Hope to see more crossover soon and updates. =)
Thanks, I'm glad you liked this one
You nailed it!!!! This was an awesome way to let someone know how to care better for their pet. You weren't rude, showed no shame, and you were excited to provide the correct information! Seth you took this like a champ thanks for helping make this video!
Glad you like this one!
That hair dryer trick works great I learned that in on of your videos bob thanks for that
I'm glad it's working for you!
I started watching you the other day. I saw you on Snake Discovery. I used to hate snakes but after watching Snake Discovery for years I'm totally into snakes.
That's great, welcome to the channel!
I actually really appreciate this kind of content, non-judgemental education. It's ok not to know things, but it's so important to be willing to learn
That mustache is legendary
I'm definitely jealous of that mustache!
I love these Ball Python care videos, I always get something new from it. I too am transitioning from poor care to great care for my Ball Python. She's 5ft long & healthy. I got her from my sister a year ago & she had it in a 40g. I recently started building a 2x2x5 ft enclosure to upgrade the habitat. In my 40g I changed out the red heat lights for ceramic heat bulbs & put white light for the day & dim blue light for at night on a timer. I also built a stand for the tank & put a heat mat under it where hide is. I've been learning alot from these videos so thanks a ton
Sounds like your snake is getting a nice setup!
@GreenRoomPythons oh yea. I don't like the size of the water dish either so when I finish the new enclosure I'm going to build a nice big pond area with a rock waterfall with a filter so she always has constant running filtered water to soak in & drink from. I'm putting stuff for her to climb on as well. I also already switched out the bark mulch my sister had & I got coconut husk
This was a great video! Sethward was clearly interested in improving his now outdated husbandry and you made it so clear and easy to understand. The WHY is just as important as the HOW when it comes to learning.
As someone who works in a pet supply store, yes, many people who work there don't understand reptiles and they really don't care to learn. But sometimes customers don't want to know how to improve their basic care for their reptiles. Often I will Google stuff to show to the customer. Sometimes they take my recommendation, often they don't. Recently i was telling a customer who has a 7 or 8 year old bearded dragon about the new LED UVB's and how fluorescent UVB bulbs are not being produced anymore. She said she has only a red heat bulb for her dragon and other than him not liking to move around anymore, he's fine. I told her that UVB is essential for bearded dragons. She again said, no, he's fine. I suspect her dragon doesn't move around because of MBD.
Another customer inherited an ancient dog and a "lizard" from a roommate who recently died. He honestly didn't know what kind of lizard it was. I showed him pictures and he thinks it is a leopard gecko. He only feeds it 5 small crickets a week. I always put at least 15 into the bag. Poor starving gecko. Last week he said the red bulb burned out in the cage so he put a 40 watt lamp bulb in to replace it. He said he would "consider getting a heat bulb" after I told him that the gecko cannot digest food without heat. Apparently he is still considering because he hasn't been back to buy the bulb yet.
It's really too bad when people treat reptiles like disposable pets
God bless you for trying so hard to convince customers to improve the life of their pets! As far as bad information goes: You get that everywhere not only in pet stores: I read dozens of articles of snake experts on the web, each saying the exact opposite of the one before. And you can even get bad information of the breeder you buy your snake from.
When I bought my male baby corn snake (having already educated myself of the needs of the snake), the breeder (she is also rescuing a lot of snakes) talked me into taking a second male baby corn snake to help her rescuing project.
First I didn´t want to because I had read that corn snakes live alone and cohabitating causes stress. But asked she told me that she is cohabitating all her male snakes and everything is totally fine.
So I bought the snake. And what happened? Now that the boys are juvenile you can clearly see that one always tries to dominate the other, despite having a really big terrarium with 5 hides and lots of plants he sits wherever the other male is, mostly on top of him, and sometimes they even show clearly nervous erratic movements when they meet in the terrarium. Now I have to buy another big terrarium to seperate them! 0h joy!
I love this!! I’ve been keeping snakes for almost 30 years and I cringe looking back at some of the things I just didn’t know! I was doing my best with what I knew, but boy howdy could I do it better now!!
I moved my Texas rat into her Black Box 6x2x3 yesterday. ❤❤
That's a great cage!
Just had to pop in and say, your instruction videos are fantastic for new keepers. You've really helped me to do what's best for my snakes.
Also, I'm finally out of the "Keepers who have yet to be bitten" catagory 😂
Thanks so much, I'm glad you're enjoying the videos - and I'm glad you survived the bite ;-)
I got my first corn snake [amelanistic stripe male] when I was a teenager & thought I did a decent amount of research online beforehand. My mistake was thinking that was all there was to learn. Max lived to be 16 years old, which isn't bad but not as long as I expected/hoped. I found your channel after he passed, and watching you with your snakes has brought me comfort. You helped me realize it wasn't necessarily my fault, but that I need to do better when/if I keep snakes again.
Sounds like you did the best you could at the time, that's great!
This was so wholesome & sweet, & the intro was so cool 🤣
As an intermediate Keeper myself (owned Hogs & balls for 4 years with plans to start breeding on a very small scale in '25), I made several of these mistakes at first!
Thank you both for this entertaining educational masterpiece!!
Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Appreciate the discussion as a new keeper trying to soak up as much as possible. Digging the channel.🤙
Glad you're enjoying it!
I learn so much watching all your videos. Monty benefits from all of our new knowledge. Thanks!
Thank you so much, I'm glad the videos are helpful!
Love this video! And the idea behind it!
This can be very helpful for new snake owners especially or ones who like you said never thought to look into it more!
Thanks, glad you liked it!
The internet needed this. Thank you both for your efforts and majestic facial hair
Awww, thanks!
Amazing job to BOTH of you! Bob for being patient and not rude, and Seth for being open and not defensive. He seems like an amazing snake-dad to be so eager to learn!
A childhood friend of mine was always known as “The Snake Kid” because he’d had snakes since he was 7 years old… but he also never updated his knowledge from when he was 7 years old. As an adult he genuinely had no idea how much he had wrong, and he was shocked and guilt-ridden when he learned.
You have the coolest friends bob!
Thanks! I like them too :-)
I appreciate the patience by both. This was hard to watch
I. Love. This. Okay I will be honest when he was like "Oh that's what a thermostat is?" I went into the fetal position 😅 Haha but seriously - love all the great info from Bob and this whole conversation was so educational and pleasant, and I have to give maaaaassive credit to Sethward (I keep accidentally saying Squidward and it makes my husband chuckle every time). He was such a good sport and it's really hard to beat our natural instinct to get defensive and immediately close off to new info. So seriously, massive props to Sethward for being so cool and having this talk with Bob. This makes my heart do a little jig (metaphorically, I'm fine I swear). Really fantastic content you guys. This is what UA-cam is all about, IMO 😁
(It moves when I poke it 😅, lol)
Thanks so much, I'm glad you enjoyed this one!
This was such a great video. Fun and informative. Sethward was such a good sport and willing to learn. It’s a good lesson for all of us who have pets to keep learning. I don’t even have a snake but, enjoy all of your videos. I did finally hold one though! 😂
When you do join snake talks and you say one thing,(for me that’s a lot of things) and get your ass chewed you don’t to engage anymore. So thanks for the comment on being nice.🤗
Yes, online conversations tend to go south pretty quickly sometimes
I really love this video...this is like my 3rd time watching it. I appreciate the level of gentle patience in teaching on Bob's part, and Sethward's patience and acceptance of new info, despite having a snake for a long time already. It's like the anti-reddit experience!
Thanks so much, I'm glad you like this one! I was very thankful to Sethward for doing all this on camera.
I'd love to see an update on him someday!
Thank you Bob for being an amazing teacher with the best personality!! And thank you to your buddy for being so willing to learn and change. I definitely shared this video to my Facebook hoping everyone that has been keeping snakes for years takes the time to watch it. ❤
Thanks so much, I appreciate the compliment!
@@GreenRoomPythons I’m just sad you won’t be able to make it to Tinley! I was so hoping to meet you! But you and Dav will be in the Amazon right?
@@katiemclark78 Yes, we will!
He had such a great attitude that whole video. It can be really difficult to hear and admit that something your doing is wrong or out dated or harmful. Honestly I don't ever post in ball python advice forums. I look at the comments and posts on care because you genuinely can learn stuff, but I also see how people behave towards someone who literally doesn't know any better. It doesn't help anyone to lecture and be mean.
Also the whole "your just a dog owner"... 😅 No actually that was my first passion, former dog groomer and it was basically my job to lecture people 😂 I dove into snakes because when I had to retire (for medical reasons) it left a big passion gap in my life. I'm head over heels in love with snakes and I'd say your channel has a lot to do with that fact.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed this one!
Hey bob, don't forget to mention about clutter in the cage such as fake plants and enrichment items.
Yes, clutter is very important especially for young snakes
I deep dived this lovely man for weeks when I got my first bp,! I continued to watch and join patreon! Not only are you a patient, wonderful teacher, you save so many snake keepers from continuing on with misinformed advice/keeping info from pet stores. It's endangered animals for far too long. Standards should be higher for these companies!!! Thanks Bob!!!❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much for the kind words!
Those poor snakes they must have been so stressed, good he's educating himself and learning, the worst is when people completely ignore anything and even when their animals are suffering.
This was not a collaboration I was expecting but I loved it nonetheless
Glad you enjoyed it!
I have a 425 gram female that is in a 37 gallon enclosure with about 4 inches of substrate mix of reptibark and EcoEarth. She is ALMOST the length of her enclosure (36”/3 feet/90cm). 2 hides, plenty of enrichment and a combo lamp plugged into thermostat and automatic timer controlled by my phone. Humidity averages 70% (is usually between 65-75%) once she gets a little bigger she is going into a 75 gallon and while her 5x2x2 plywood enclosure inspired by SerpaDesign is built for her lifelong enclosure. I’m not a fan of having to reach nearly 2 feet into the enclosure to pick up my snake but she doesn’t seem to mind as she associates her rock being lifted with me picking her up. I’m glad you are keeping people up to date! I had a roommate tell me he kept a boa many years ago in a 120 gallon 4x2 and I was HORRIFIED but apparently that wasn’t considered cruel when he kept it and he wished the information out now was around then
I certainly wouldn’t call myself a reptile HOBBYIST as this is not only my first snake but I only plan to get one more but I definitely did due research because I do that with everything I get into. Even if it’s getting a phone based around my needs when it’s upgrade time.
Sounds like your snake has a great setup!
@@GreenRoomPythons thank you so much for the reply! She is my first ever reptile after 20 years of aquarium keeping so I’m always cautious I’m doing something wrong with her husbandry even if I research and plan accordingly. I’m sure that will get better with time as she grows and thrives
I already commented but have to again. More videos similar to this! I already knew all of this, but it was still a good reminder for us who do and excellent for anyone who doesn’t! Can’t wait to see an update on his snake after the changes are made 💞
We'll do an update in the future for sure
This is such a lovely video!
I just watch because I think snakes are interesting and cute, and I love learning.
But when I was researching chinchillas it’s SO easy to find people who are more interested in attacking you than helping. I didn’t even get my chinnies until I had thoroughly researched everything I needed to know, and it was very intimidating. I can’t imagine the pressure on people who are sold animals by a pet shop and go to seek support, only to encounter hostility.
Obviously in an ideal world, everyone would have the time, energy and resources to understand exactly what an animal needs before they get one… but with some pet shops being untrustworthy, and some animals being unexpectedly rescued, and some people just being unawares… the very next best thing: free, easy to get information and support. Like this channel 😊
Glad you enjoyed this one!
This is fun to watch. Nothing like learning newer way to care for your animal.
Artie, my BP, thanks you so much. I have had him since 2006 and had no idea how to keep a snake. I recused him and ended up with a small cute little buddy. When I brought him home, I talked with the employee of a big pet store and followed his advice. Well, the last few years Artie has had trouble shedding and about two months ago I found your channel after finding eye caps on Artie and lots of layered sheds still attached. I immediately, ordered everything you suggested, and it has made a world of difference in his attitude. The extra shed and eye caps came off on their own after adding a water dish large enough for him to get into. He is now in "blue" and the humidly is up and he was even laying in his large water dish last night. Hoping for a full shed this time. Thanks for the knowledge.
That's great, it sounds like you're giving your snake some really good care
This is literally, the most helpful and informative video I have seen on this subject Bob. I am a big believer that ‘we’ learn more from messing up than I have from doing anything right the first time and this not only told and showed me what TO DO, but it also gave immense insight on what NOT to do. We will do what we think is right strictly due to ignorance and I applaud Sethward for being super receptive to the information you gave him because he obviously cares about Ofatlia (sp?), although she may not have even been as ‘fat’ as he thought.. but your guidance and the knowledge will help her and many other ball pythons thrive. THANK YOU!
I am hoping to see an update!
your friend is incredible. absolutely hilarious
Thanks so much, I'm glad you enjoyed the video :-)
I love when Ken debuts😂😂😂
Oh my goodness THANK YOU!! I am new at this and I was worried about the heating pad and keeping my little Nigel at the appropriate temperature!! Now I understand a lot more of what's important to his enclosure 🥰🥰🐍
This video is great! This really shows how ppl really go on for years doing the incorrect things with their reptiles. We learn and adapt to change for the better
Glad you enjoyed it!
I’m camp two. I ‘breed’ exatosoma tiaratum (they’re parthenogenic so not technically breeding lol). Last time I went to sell a batch to the exotic pet store, a little Stimson hatchling caught my eye and I asked if I could handle her. That was it, I fell in love! I’m now devouring everything I can find on snake husbandry so that I’m better equipped to keep a content and healthy snake. I cannot wait for my wildlife license to arrive so I can go and pick up my little stimmy!
This was so nice to watch!! I didn't even notice it was longer than normal! Looking forward to an update 😊
I really appreciate how kind and compassionate you are for people who don't know better. Need more of that in the world. It's also cool that he's trying to do better.
(Also! I watch ya cuz I like what you have to say, and I love seeing the snakes. I love reptiles, but I would be a horrible keeper. So I watch UA-camrs.)
Thanks so much!
Love you respect all keepers. Ive been keeping snakes 25yr at least and didn't keep ballpython for long time and had to ask advise about it and i keep arboreal pit vipers, naja, bci, hognose many different. And still i need advice some times.
No keeper knows it all we learn each day ❤
I don’t own a snake. Not one. However, I have been infatuated with them so some time now, ball pythons in particular. Follow you as well many other breeders/keepers just for the content. Thanks!
Glad this guy is willing to learn! I've tried time and time again to stress the importance of thermostats to my friend who has 2 BP's, but he's older than me and thinks he knows better. It's pretty frustrating. He was even considering cohabbing his 2 males to save space. Luckily I think I talked him out of that, but he kept saying it was fine bc he knew someone who did it and the snakes were "just vibing together" but he doesn't know anything about snake body language. I had to explain the resource issues and male combat and everything before he finally listened. His snake was obese when I first met him, but that was before I got a BP and became obsessed with reptiles and fish. Luckily he listened to the vet and started feeding less when he brought him in for a respiratory infection. His snakes always have terrible sheds too, but he's convinced it's fine because he has a mister on a timer. He doesn't even have thermometers, hygrometers, or a temp gun. He gave me a heat rock and I cut the cord off because he was determined to use it again for his snakes. Had to show him pics of what happens when a heat rock overheats and burns a snake before he'd listen. He also gave his snake full strength UVB like for years but thankfully he never changed or tested it, so his BP was probably only getting super intense UVB for a year or so. He quit using it altogether when a pet store told him he didn't need it for BP's. I know light UVB can benefit BP's, but the type of UVB you'd give a bearded dragon is too much.
I keep trying to get him to watch you and Snake Discovery, but so far he hasn't. I might put on this video next time he comes over. It's frustrating when a friend doesn't trust you on a subject that is your passion and hobby, that they have never researched themselves.
I am SO0 HAPPY BOB, you have taught me all the things I NEED 2 know, 2ba great care giver 4my Lil guy..
🐍
(I've learned from the best), I ALWAYS watch reruns just to refresh my memory, and test myself on what I HAVE LEARNED...
🐍😎👍🐍
This is a great video! I have several ball pythons ( and other reptiles) and though I personally follow all the things you say to do, I think this video is a great one for anyone who has snakes and other reptiles to watch and share with others. Thank you, Bob for making videos and teaching others about snakes.
Thanks so much, I'm glad you enjoyed this one!
I just got around to watching this and this was such a wholesome video! I really hope we get to see the update someday!💚
I think we probably will, glad you liked it!
Hey bob. So I got my snake today. His name is pacard. We are both big star trek fans. Lol he seems like he is going to be a sweet snake. I'm trying not to disturb him until 7 days and then eats then 2 days then start to handle him. I put my face by the glass and he came right up with his tongue flicking like it should be and he sat their looking at me. He did that twice. He is 3 months old. He don't act like the trip stressed him out but I'm sure it. He came out and explored a little then went back into a Hide. He did that a few times. I can't wait to get to hold him . Thank you for all your advice. Look forward to your next video. I appreciate everything.
Congrats on your new snake, I love the name!
33:34 ONE PIECE IS REAL!!!!! I dont know if anyone is gonna understand this reference on this channel.
I found this channel and this video because i have recently discovered that i have had a repressed special interest in snakes that has recently taken over my whole brain. Im so glad this video exists. It was weirdly more helpful than a basic guide mainly because you take your time to explain how we know what's wrong and right. I know im 9 months late to this vid, but i love it and love your channel. Learning so much as i prepare for my own snake.
Wow, thank you so much for making some necessary and wonderful changes for your girl! 😊
I have 2 snakes (BP & corn) i also love to learn. If i can do better for them i want to. Weather its now or years later. Constructive criticism in a kind way is helpful. Great video 💯 👍🏻😊 i enjoyed it a lot!
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks, Seth and Bob. I hope many new snake people will watch this video. How about making a follow up video in a couple of weeks to tell if the changes that Seth will now apply to his husbandry will have a visible effect on the snake and her behaviour? It would be interesting to know the difference 😊
Yes we talked about that in this video actually. We will be doing a follow-up but I have a number of videos planned so it will be a little bit longer than a few weeks :-)
6:41 - the comment and the laugh got me. 😂
Great video thanks a lot really appreciate it I’m a wizard with chickens lol 😂 but my wife finally let me get a ball python even though she doesn’t like snake I’m hear for the long run appreciate you sharing the knowledge you have
I'm glad this one was helpful for you!
Omg thank you for this video! I found mistakes I didn't even know about. I tried to be so careful with care, but I didn't realize some little things!
I'm glad it was helpful for you!
Watching this video took me back to the early 2000s and my BFF at the time had two ball pythons that she loved. They were awesome snakes lol. Watching this video made me realize the misinformation (or maybe it was good info at the time) was bad lol. She kept her snakes together, we thought they were besties always snuggled together lmfao. Right down to like lighting and humidity and all that. Sooo on behalf of all those who had snakes years ago thanks for the updated info!!!
Great video! Sethward is really a great guy, and quite humble as well. I've seen him on AGT many times and he's really funny. I love when the fans boo Simon Cowell for red buzzing Seth. Anyway, I love that he humbly took in all the great info you gave him. Most know-it-alls, well, just know it all and wouldn't listen to sound advice. I shared this video with a dear friend whose pet ball python died this past Sunday. The poor thing felt cold at times and my friend was ill prepared with the items you discussed, and didn't really know what else to do. Now, I know he'll benefit more with the info u gave Sethward. Thanks so much for sharing 🙏🏽
A good example is scaleless and super microscale, they need a little bit more care and love then other morphs. Not all keepers now that thay need some other humidity level and other stuff
Inkbird makes a wifi thermostat with 2 probes and 2 working plugs thats decent priced and works pretty good for me so far.
That's good to know!
I just found some dimming thermostats for like $30 that I’m trying out. I check the temp several times a day and my guys are definitely able to get away from the heat if they need to.
22:30
Omg i cant believe hes not monitoring the humidity, now, THANKS 2 BOB, i know everything i need 2 know ..
Its pretty simple actually,
But he had his first shed , it was all 1 piece, i think I WAS MORE cautious, i was boiling water in the kitchen 2 keep the humidity right....
I just wanna make sure hes got the best 4 him...hes my lil guy
💚🐍💚
This helped me a ton. Thank you!!
My thermostat has to be over 100 for it to be in mid to high 80s. I use a temp gun often but o check temp inside hides
Before I got myne I watched videos and got my snake from a breeder😊 love your videos
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoy them!
