What I love about the book is that there are things unanswered, like after escaping the cannibals that worship the Worm he encounters something for like half a second that could have been the Worm. But it never comes up again.
I thought that was pretty cool, too. I think he asked about trains afterwards and everyone was like "stfu, you're crazy." I was really annoyed after a while with how literally EVERYONE thought he was crazy and how prone to self-destructive behavior he became. Even toward the end, after all of his growth, he just didn't get it. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome... That's Artyom.
@@LooniJoose The story is ungodly good with the fear of the unknown, it is implied that all three books were written in-universe, 2034 by Homer and 2033 and 2035 by a man that Artjom met I think in the Reich
What's never been answered but has stayed with me for the longest is the slime. I've only read 2033, but there's a brief (and I mean VERY brief) mention of a slime trail when Artyom was hiding from mutants in an old apartment on the surface. He notices it, decided to leave before he find out the origin, and continues on. When he makes it back to the Metro and tells his story to melnik, he gets upset and makes a big deal about artyom not listening to him and going inside the houses and stepping in the slime. He checks his boots and then sends them off to be disinfected and then never again is this mysterious slime mentioned in 3033, or in any of the games. (Again Idk if it's in thr other two novels) this one little detail has eaten away at my mind for years. What is the slime? Why was melnik so worried about it? Where does it come from???
@@androrobuiques9497no the slime monster never comes back. I like how that part in particular gripped you lol, i remember it too, i was creeped out after melnik's warning. The second book does stray a bit from the style of the first book so it may throw you off if you read it. The third is really good, it changes the tone again, since there are no monsters here. But everything is revealed on 2035. I think you should read them
I got the books on audible narrated by Rupert Degas and I've have listen too each of them at least 4 times each, they fantastic and the world is built so effectively. I love it and I wish the books in the extended series were translated
One thing I appreciate about the book is how sparingly the mutant creatures are used. Made the creatures in here, like the dark ones, more mysterious and scary. Only something the best horror stories (though Metro isn’t a horror story specifically) can do
Great review. I heard that they have plans for a fourth Metro game, with no Artyem, RPG mechanics, cooperative and competitive multiplayer. Which are all things 4A wanted to do with the games since 2033 but weren't able to due to budgetary and scheduling reasons. I am not sure about all that as it doesn't really sound like the Metro I know and love but hey 4A have yet to let us down yet. The ending to the video was awesome!
Honestly, I'm actually thinking of getting the three main books and looking at the little side stories wherever they're called because I recently just got like kind of hooked in after seeing gameplay of of Exodus and getting caught up on like the story of like the last games. Which is probably adding on to the current trend of games that I'm actually getting interested in like Escape From Tarkov, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and the Metro series
S.T.A.L.K.E.R is a very good series also based on a book. Roadside picnic, there's also a movie called stalker based on that book too. I'd planned to do a video on that before life got in the way

Just want to add for the content maker and the people coming onto this video. 2034 the book follows Hunter and doesn't ever let us know what Artyom is upto. That is because the game Metro: Last Light is going on. The author has made it clear that the game Last Light is Canon to his novels and is happening during Hunters quest. Exodus however is not Canon unfortunately

In my opinion, he is.. i do read the books myself, and throughout everything? I was wondering how powerful a person can be to go on.. after all he has been through. But YES, in a more mystical way, he ain't special 😂. In fact, in the book's he is heavily dependent on others. For example, without the stalker Melnik, he would either get executed at the return back to Polis. Or killed in some way outside in the wastelands. he got strict instructions on how to safely get back to the metro. and like this, there are many more
I just played & beat 2033 & Last Light for the 1st time recently. They both got me really interested in buying the books. But I'll wait until I beat Exodus. I see why people say these games are each a masterpiece. & I normally hate FPS games. Can count on 1 hand the good ones & this trilogy is easily 3 of the 5.
I can see your point of view about The games not giving the book justice, but in my opinion as someone who is just an average player I just want to get to the next mission or safehouse but for the storyline seekers they tend to look for all that extra information but I do see why you said what you said.
Did you read the English version cause I’m finding that the translations are really bad like a lot of words a miss spelled and the grammar is confusing as hell
