I gotta say I really like the new crew talk sounds on this ES44. They seem much more realistic than previous models...almost MTH-like. My favorite sequence occurs at 8:13 where the guy accidentally mis-dials into the system and has to try again. Too cool!
At least they put an E Bell on, but come on the same horn that is on just about ever Lionel dash 9, SD40, and seemingly most Lionel locomotive now. I get the real life counterpart has a Leslie which is what that horn is trying to be, but it’s also an RS5T-RRO, which like come on Lionel, this is a very special locomotive, can’t you just do it right. It still looks incredible and the new start up and crew two are amazing.
You could look for a custom sound set and try to give the model a custom sound set with a new circuit or sound board of some sorts, personally I think getting this in HO made by scale trains as it has prototypical sounds, as for o scale I’m not sure but perhaps mth has that kinda stuff on their o scale 911 offering
Yeah Eric, just like select other Legacy models from a few years past, Lionel’s putting 5 changeable whistle/horns and bells on all Legacy locomotives from this point forward. Just like on the AC-9, or the older GS series, pressing Aux 1 after blowing the whistle/horn and trying it again will go through the cycle. I believe you change the bell on the fly. Have not tested that yet. You might be surprised what sounds were exclusive to the CSX spirit locos.
I’m gonna be a firefighter in a year or so and I’m also a railfan so this engine is really neat to see I’ve seen the real one 5 times. I want one so bad and I’m glad you were able to do a review on it. Thank you Eric!!
It’s a little easy to hear the sounds on both the locomotive and refrigerator boxcar. It wasn’t easy to tell yesterday from the BNSF locomotive because I think the locomotive is a little louder than the generator in the boxcar.
It's the alterer counting down because at startup most times there's no air in the system and it thinks it needs to stop the train. I work with these engines everyday.

Do you know the German model railroader Manuela Koch? She has AMAZING videos, and her railroad is themed after mid-1960s (1966 to be exact), northern Germany (where she lives). The level of detail in her simulations is utterly amazing, down to people at train stations, others working loading freight, some working in their yards by their rails in communities, and even period correct advertisements. It’s a startup bell/alert for when the engine begins to kick into full gear that’s what

5 ways to control the locomotive. Can you control it via MTH DCS too?
Almost any Legacy/TMCC locomotive is controllable with DCS, it just lacks features.
