RARE...! FRIJID PINK - House Of The Rising Sun

- FRIJID PINK is a Detroit area blues rock band formed in 1967, best known for their version of "House of the Rising Sun", released in 1969.
The initial line-up of the band included drummer Richard Stevers, guitarist Gary Ray Thompson, bassist Tom Harris, lead singer Tom Beaudry (aka Kelly Green)...
FRIJID PINK - замечательная команда из Детройта, чей hard-driving blues-rock наделал немало шума в начале 70х. В каком-то смысле именно они (а не MC 5 и иже с ними) стали ответом на британцев TEN YEARS AFTER, TATSE etc.
Первая пара синглов ("Tell me why"/ "Cryin' shame" и "Drivin' blues"/"God gave me you") успеха большого не имела. Авторский материал (написанный в основном Томсоном и Бодри, при том, что авторство часто указывалось коллективным) не принес лавров и в качестве следующего шага к успеху был выбран кавер House of the rising sun. Новая, динамичная версия этой композиции с ходу протаранила чарты не только на Родине FRIJID PINK, но и в Великобритании и Германии.
Следующая 45-ка "Sing a song for freedom" закрепила столь внезапный успех... • Rare FRIJID PINK - Sin...
Lead singer Tom Beaudry passed away 09/02/2021. RIP brother. Millions of people appreciated that voice. 🙏🇺🇲
🕯🌠🕯
50 years later and it's still the best version of "House of the Rising Sun". Detroit certainly produced some great bands back in the day...
In my opinion this is the best cover of house of the rising sun ever.
You got that right.
@@schreckpmc Överensstämmer med föregående talare!...
The best version!!
Without a doubt the best version, still sends chills up my spine. Other worldly.
Absolutely agree, the power of this tune is unmatched.
Man, the vocalist has some pipes! Probably the best version of this great song around.
✌😉👌
Tom Beaudry was my uncle, his father Mel was my grandfather. I was just sitting outside with an old family photo album and came across a bunch of Christmas pics from 1979 and had to play this video for my kids.
@@tashacherry1480 Hi fam! ❤ We are cousins then.
Goosebumps ..what a voice
Fantastic version of the song.
A very underrated band!!
Sublime because only this guy can sing powerful enough to overshadow the monster guitar rif.
No, I sing it just like him! People always freak out when I start with the low and think I'm gonna blow it but when I go high and powerful on "They call the risin Sun" they begin to understand. I love his voice and I love singing and listening to this version of the song
absolute best version of this song his tromelo and pitch was perfect
Saw them live in 69....never to be forgotten.
THE BEST VERSION!
I'm 53....
Just discovered this!!!
Best version of....
funny story. back in 1974 i guess while in High school. A friend of mine said they were coming to the providence RI civic center. I had not heard of the group, but he said they did a great version of House of the Rising Sun. Great. So I got tickets and me and a buddy went. Well, it wasn't Frijid Pink playing, it was Pink Floyd!
Disappointed? Lol
What a sadness :)
By the way, which one is 'Pink'?
We’re you toasted?
Umm idk man, thought...pink.floyd didn't start touring again until 1976 when dark side came out
So good, the best version ever!
Metal before Metal!
I went to school with Tom Harris the bass player
Cool, nice person?
I remember seeing this on tv when I was 12 years old, still like it better than the Animals version. Great guitar sound!
Wow, I remember this version. This vocalist has a great voice. No auto tune here, just great singing!
But he is lip synched in this video...
Still no auto tune back then. They had a way to correct the pitch but Frijid Pink would not have been able to afford to pay for an engineer who knew how to do it back then.
how do u know?
Sorry but lip synced definitely, no doubt but one of MY ALL TIME FAVE SINGLES I play regularly...If this was never produced/played by this ballsy band and lead singer, placed on vinyl my life would never have been complete... understand rockers! Peace.
@@musicroolsman994 it's ez to see xD the Guitar isn't even plugged in :D
One Of My Many Favorite Detroit Bands What A Voice And What A Great Band Rick Stevers Is A Friend He The Only One Left From The Original But He Is Still Rocking And Recording Frijid Pink Still Plays Out Great Guys
Don M Thank you Don, ur the reason we do this shit in the first place... Peace brother🙏
Thanks for sharing that! I've wondered if they were still with us.Kicka** band!
Oh mother , how the hell did I ever miss this version of House of the Rising Sun. ???
HANDS DOWN THIS IS THE BEST VERSION!!!!
Best version ever !
I have always liked this version better than the Animals. I still the 45 i bought in the 70's.
yes ... agree!!!
Best version yet
+James Fralick me too
i understand you
This song actually was written in or prior to 1933 and was sung and recorded by a young 16 yr. old girl named Georgia Turner in 1937. Only the Animals and Frigid Pink have ever done this song justice. Both versions were great.
always loved these guys and this version.
My brother had this LP and played it to death. I never understood why they only cut a few albums. He just passed away a month ago and I got his record collection. He had 4 of the "pink" albums in his probably 200 records.I'd say he was a fan😄
played it to death = запилил (zapilil) ... 😉
Wow Tom RIP you left a legacy thats so incredibly beautiful
Nicol to you as well great father❤
I like the Animals version well, but this is the DEFINITE VERSION, it's what I heard first and it kicks the Animals version butt!
I think both versions are great. Tough to compare them because they are so different. Love the distorted guitar in Frijid's, and love Alan Price's organ work in the Animals' version.
When I was stoned that time, I preferred the Frigid version. With a clean head the Eric version.
@@thommyh.4492 Sounds about right, truth!
@@jerfacekilla you got it right! I hate comparisons of something so different.
My favorite version of this song.
Dude had a helluva voice. I had the 45 rpm back in the day. Played it to death.
I still have and play it... the Aussie crocodile version... not that krokadile bullshit drug shit.. the real single...Peace.
He's my uncle! Kelly Green is really uncle Mel B.
I've still got mine I bought it from a second hand shop and after hearing it spent ages trying to get more information about the band
You probably did play it death, I can just imagine seeing it.
@@tashacherry1480 How are you related again? Is Mel is your dad bc that would make US cousins 😊
Badazz vocals, Badazz guitar. best ever. Nuff said.
RIP Thomas Beaudry (lead singer) December 6, 1947 - September 2, 2021

BEST! rendition of this song ever!!!!
I have this CD, had it made at a radio station here in CT. The whole album is AWESOME
" Yeah but this one goes all the way to 11"...!!
반가워요♡♡♡
Взаимно...;)
Great great great Frijid Pink the best ever
An awesome, heavy, and psychedelicized arrangement of an old standard that tops all others...imho.
this was on the "upbeat" program, filmed in cleveland, ohio. by 1969, it was simulcast in over 100 cities, but recorded in cleveland. otis readings last live performance was on upbeat, then boarded the plane that would take his life.
Tom's dad was my grandfather. Pretty cool being able to say that too.
Thank you for this! Witnessing the way this song was meant to be sung.
A Little Side Note: My Buddy in college explained that when He was in Nam, they would go out on patrol up the Mighty Mekong and Listen to Rock an' Roll. One of their favorites was the Frigid Pink version of House of the Risin' Sun. They got in trouble with the Captain for Blasting Rock Music at full Volume while on Patrol; "Well, Nobody shoots at us when we do it." And, One of the guys that listened to "Risin' Sun" had no idea that in the Distant Past of his Family a relative had written something like the song in 1821. My Buddy sez, "Back in those days, Nobody gave a shit about anything including what some platoon leader said." "Hey, I ain't Dead am I?"
Rock on an peace be with you neighbor... Peace.
That's wild dude!
Fantastic upload-one of the greatest band of all times!!!Thanks!!!!
*bands
Vocals are amazing. I still listen to this. Still have the 45.
With out a doubt the best version of the Animals hit single, the guitar work here is unsurpassable.
Not live...Peace.
yep brilliant version
Wonderful !👍👍👍I'm from Hanoi Vietnam 🇻🇳🇻🇳🇻🇳 Thanks !🌷🌷🌷🌹🌹🌹💋💋💋🖐🏻
The “ Pick Scratch “ at 3:02 is such a perfectly timed and cool effect. I remember hearing it on the radio and wondering how it was done.
hey people, remember the FRIJID PINK, one of the most important Michigan groups of late sixties. please buy the music of this group (easy to find on cd)... "rock on" from Italy !
+antonio berti MC5?
Amboy Dukes
I read where Led Zeppelin, MC5 and The Stooges all opened for them in at a show in Detroit once.
@@mickeysanker1547 What u know about The Volebeats? Peace.
Thanks so much for posting.....this is awesome.
sat by their amps at a Troy High School (mich.) dance in the very early 70s....wish I had most of my hearing back ( smiles)
did you see them at a club called Full Tilt Boogie Ballroom in LaSalle, Michigan?
Hi, ever here of a place called FTB? Full Tilt Boogie Ballroom?
LaSalle Mich, they played there around '74-5........hmmmm, so did young Bob....Seger
Flick your lighter and hold it up if you remember listening to this on Mark 'Daddy' Addy's Riff Rock Cafe on WRIF in Detroit back in the day.
I saw them in Clearwater, Florida around 1969. Cool.
Sweet, Love it the best...
thx for this mate..great !
I Love Northville, Michigan!!!
Nailed it !!
Super
Back in the day we called those floods Mr Bass Player :) I loved the Animals Who Kinks and Stones not the Beatles but this was always My Favorite version of House !!!
I never could stand the Beatles. No one ever understood that. "Doesn't everyone love the Beatles? How can you not love the Beatles?" they would always ask. We are few and far between I suppose. Cheers.
Linday Mohegan They had so many songs I liked a few but not many . With Me I think they were to soft pop and commercial I liked my rock hard and cutting edge They failed they chose success over experimenting to long yes they did experiment later but way to late so let the masses have their music I will have mine cheers back at ya

Awesome rare footage
if this sadly under-appreciated Michigan band can claim nothing else, they can claim the baddest ass version of an unparalleled piece of musical Americana.
I'll Always Love me Neal Patrick Fry
Awesome!
I had the 45 and always tend my friends on to it👍
Pure class
замечательно
Согласен 😉👍
Really great song nicely done.
just heard frijid Pink House of the Rising Sun thought they were a hip one hit wonder just found out they were a great blues band hurts her three songs fun well you learn something new everyday
He owns it!
Ahoy-perfect version !
this is so cool. I think I watched this back then on tv. I remember having the 45rpm. and playing it at 78rpms. the music sounded even better . and I love this song (this version the most)
This got lots of airplay on NYC radio back in the day.
this is amazing
Oh yes When having long hair was COOL!🤗😎😍😉
Gary Ray Thompson looks like a cross between Randy Holden from Blue Cheer and Tony Iommi from Sabbath. In other words, a very typical, cool looking heavy psych rock lead guitarist from the late 60s/early 70s.
In 1979 my cousin Mike gave me a pink 8-track of Frigid Pink. I've never seen another pink one since.
Very talented to be able to play those guitars so loud with no guitar cords plugged in… great trick…!!!
He knows how to use his voice..amazing
Prodigieux et magnifique ! Philippe
it's really good, especially the dancing silhouettes @ the intro.. toxic as hell :)
amazing
Классно делают супер сильнейшие рокеры
Super song
Thanks for posting Nicholas xx = far better than the Animal's version = awesome leccy guitar intro
Thanks! 👋 😄 🌹
and where the hell am I bad always thought frijid Pink House of the Rising Sun Wednesday one hit wonder I just heard a few other songs by there I didn't know they were great Blues group well you learn something new everyday
Groovy!
Love his Les Paul
It is very nice, gold-top with p-90s, cream pick guard...that guitar would be worth a small fortune in today's market. I'm thinking he bought it with the advance he got from the recording contract.
wow!

Tom Beaudry (Kelly Green) 1947-2021. So long, sir. So many venues of so many genres, of both the dark and the light, have I travelled only to find you once again. One week too late. Godspeed.

Sensacional !
OMG NAILED IT!
Damm good, no damm great !!

My favorite version ! ( those pink bells are about 6 inches too short!!)
Bloody, flippin' , rock & roll !!!!!
These boys could jam. I actually thought this was the original version for a long time. Well, to me it's the better version. All respect to the Animals.
Same here.
