Interview with Van's Aircraft about new RV-10 kits

- After the issues with the audio and video during the livestream Q&A, Greg Hughes, Director of Media, Marketing & Community at Van's Aircraft was kind enough to sit down with me for another interview about their new pre-punched, matched-hole, final sized RV-10 kits. Hopefully this helps answer everyone's questions about the new kits regarding price, time savings, availability, mixing old & new parts, and more!

EXCELLENT!!!...Received my RV-10 Empennage Kit 1 month ago so it should be final sized holes.
Crates been sitting in my hangar until I get garage cleared out.
So all future RV-10 builders owe Ryan Story an immense deal of gratitude for saving them an incalculable amount of time. Unfortunately for some of us we’re already to far along for this to matter. Still, it’s an awesome change for future builders!
I guess Im asking the wrong place but does any of you know of a tool to log back into an Instagram account??
I somehow forgot the password. I would appreciate any tricks you can offer me!
@Gatlin Nikolas instablaster :)
That was awesome! Thanks so much for re-doing this!
Thank you so much for redoing this interview! I was so pumped for this video and you did a fantastic job.
Thank you 😊
Very informative, thanks for taking time to fix/redo the interview.
Thanks and you’re welcome 😊
She’s awesome ❤️ Van s very impressive performance ✈️ can’t wait to order my ✈️ RV10
This video was so helpful. I had so many questions about this. Thanks for doing this!
I’m glad you found it helpful 😊
Very informative, glad my 1st kit will be final size
Great information. Really helping me make my decision to go with an RV10 slow build. Love the plane and the community.
Glad you found it helpful 😊
Thanks for a great video.
Now I can make my own OPPS Rivets- Thanks Christine #PlaneLady
Awesome and informative 👏
Thanks 😊
Great Video🤙
Sorry, late to the party! Thank you for the follow-up interview. We're still coming down on the side of the RV-14A, and though this was targeted for the RV-10, wife and I still learned a lot from the Van's Rep. We see that you're moving right along with the fuselage.
Glad the video was helpful 😊
Nicely done Plane Lady. Keep up the good work. I live in Katy, ... hope to visit you one day and see your build (I am building an RV14)..
Excellent interview. Really enjoy hearing Greg and his expertise with Van’s. Didn’t know about the “oops” rivets...cool!
👍🏽👍🏽
I didn’t know about those either!
Does this include the items left to drill with QB kits as well?
Any deals buying kits with the old style parts
I would think that the FAA would want to encourage kits to have pre punched holes. Even ignoring pre punching in the 51% rule. As it makes for better built aircraft.
Much better
thanks 😜
Still confused will you have to drill the holes for the connecting part?
So if the two parts you’re connecting are both final sized then no. You just need to check the holes for burrs. If one part is final sized and the other isn’t, you will have to final drill the one that isn’t to make the holes the correct size. And you will still have to match drill parts with holes to the ones that don’t have any holes (like the longerons and stiffeners)
Nice shirt! Where can I buy one? I build a zenith from scratch! Thank's
Thanks! I designed them 😊 they’re in my shop on planelady.com
Taking three days to inventory is hard to imagine. Is it absolutely necessary? Do they short often?
Definitely necessary. It’s not that they short things, but mistakes or accidents do happen. Better to figure out that you’re missing two bolts and a couple washers before getting started versus when you are knee deep in the build and suddenly forced to stop because something is missing. Plus the Van’s policy is you have to report missing or damaged items within so many days after receiving your kit (I don’t remember exactly how many). It’s also just a lot of stuff to unpack and organize.
@@PlaneLady Thanks, good points. Helluva job.
Take 2?
I did a livestream before to try and let others ask questions of the guys at Van’s and despite having no issues during my trial runs there were bad audio/video problems 😕 so I redid it 😊
Is RV-10 not RV-X page too? Hmm. Good video though... I imagine pre-done holes could save some time.
