Just wanted to say thanks for including a Summon Night game and drawing attention to it. Those games are so addictive and underrated - they tried to make a spiritual sequel for Switch/ps4 (Maglam Lord) but sadly it really didn’t hit the same 😭
You're so right
Up until today I am still waiting for a full English translation of Summon Knight swordcraft story 3 monogatari
But yeah, maglam lord just doesnt hit the same :(
Man i love summon knight 😊
@@zafplays98 that's only because you're a person of culture 😊
@@MidGuardianZ I'm also waiting for the translation of number 3, but unfortunately it doesn't seem like it's gonna be finished anytime soon.
I recently got myself Max Payne on the GBA and this is the most fun I had in recent memory. The gameplay, the art style, the voiced comic panel style cutscenes are all here. It may have some cut content like missing chapters and missing weapons such as the sniper rifle, but this is still an impressive demake for the GBA. Oh yeah I almost forgot, the fight music theme in this game is straight fire! 🔥 It may seem to be an odd choice to use bongos at first during adrenaline-pumped sequences but it just works! Thank you Mobius Entertainment and Rockstar Games for bringing such a beloved classic into the GBA! 🥰
I miss being in high school and playing GBA and GC; that was a really, really fun time in gaming
I love Metroid Zero Mission, I think they did an amazing job with the pixel art on that game
And fusion too!
I only recently started collecting GBA games again since I still have my original little purple beauty and I am really happy to be able to enjoy it once again as it was the first time. And thanks to you, i'm finding new great games I didn't even know they were available for the console. Max Payne is one of those! I can only thank you.
Glad you found something new!
2d platformers, rpgs, beat em ups/action games are very strong genres on the gba. My favorite handheld of all time for sure
@@stevesteve0521 Oh absolutely. I'm enjoying it way more than any other modern game. Not to spit on them, but man those were some good days.
Over 900 games available for free if you emulate
Added Gekido to my wishlist! You had me at "Like River City Ransom".
They remastered it for the switch some years ago. I recommend that version
Loving that Tekken 2 intro soundtrack! one of my favorite game openings of all time, thank you for the good flashbacks man!
I would add golden sun 1 and 2! gorgeous games it blew my mind when i was kid!
Gekido Advance Kintaro's Revenge makes me wish the GBA was still going strong. Some beautiful and fun pixel games.
I love your videos, keep it up bro!
Thanks man! Plenty more on the way 🙂
@@thatvideogamesshow As it should be bro, I'll be aware!
Damn the Gekido sprites look like something out of PS2!
Tekken advance was cool but I think Street Fighter Alpha 3 was the best fighting game on the GBA.
Street Fighter Alpha III GBA is Worst Port in Incomplete
@@DarkbluesEXE25 the best alpha 3 version is the psp alpha 3 max version. i've never played the gba version, so i don't know what it lacks in, but the graphics are impressive for a gba game
@@unkn00wn__ content wise it’s absolutely alpha 3 max but because I hate the psp d pad or any PlayStation d pad in general, I prefer playing the sega Saturn version which is the only one that lets you play every character in dramatic battle and reverse dramatic battle.
Agreed, Alpha 3, Super street fighter turbo revival, KOF ex2 howling and DBZ super sonic warriors are all fighting games on the gba I’ll put over Tekken advance which is also a good game
@@DarkbluesEXE25 yeah it’s the worst port of alpha 3 no question but still a good port on gba hardware for sure. My only real issues with the gba port is that there’s only like 7 songs and none of the characters get their endings
About _Riviera: The Promised Land,_ this game is a port of the WonderSwan Color game of the same name.
Seriously crazy, I am new to modding and was looking for some gba games to add. Thank you
Cool to see how far handheld tech has come
Gekido’s fluid animation and beautiful art style remind me of Aladdin on the Genesis.
*This Max Payne demake looks like a game that'd be cancelled and leaked online years later.*
*Nice list there. I played most of these games and they're really incredible, indeed.*
Seems like other than resolution (for obvious reasons), GBA was the Super Super NES. Kicked it up a notch!
The GBA was nothing but a portable Snes with the super fx fused into the hardware. Which is awesome 🙌🏾
that max payne is incredibly impressive!
It’s so good, especially the gameplay as well!
I would say Asterisk and obselisk XXl would be at the top of the list. The game is a full blown 3d platformer running on gba hardware and it actually functions very well
Honestly, if this system has just had the same resolution as SNES, the same sound chip and the same amount of inputs, it would have been perfect. It's still amazing in its own right, but a few things just hold it back when, despite all its power, you know it's not quite able to to perfect SNES ports due to those things I mentioned above.
gba is underrated
Such a great handheld!
not really...good little console tho..
now the wii u...
Underrated? It is an amazing console that people love to this day.
That's why GBA carts are so expensive nowadays
How is it underrated? It's one of the most celebrated consoles of all time.
Riveria:The Promised Land.
Is A Must To Play Game!
Great video! Lego drome racers another impressive looking GBA game!
Advance Guardian Heroes was AMAZING.
I'm impressed how well the GBA can run Doom. Better than the Sega Saturn 😮😮😮
The GBA has a surprising amount of FPS and isometric games. I predict part 3 will be of mostly those.
Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation is still up to this day, my favourite GBA game. It's a turn base, with battle animations but for mechs. Nicely detailed, and rather fluid
I never got the GBA when it came out. I was going into High School and wanted to be "cool" like the other teenagers. I eventually got a GBA emulator in my early 20s and played Metroid Fusion and LOZ Minish Cap. I was blown away. Definitely have many more games to try out. Thanks for this list, didnt know Max Payne came out for the GBA!
Love your videos mate 🔥 found many gems
Thanks King, more on the way 🙂
That bullet time effect in Max Payne looks fantastic!
Check out Big Mutha Truckers for a good 3d gba game. Same with Hotwheels Stunt Track Challenge. Star X is a decent Star Fox clone. I also like how Altered Beast Guardians of the Realms looked. Uses the same prerendering technique as DK County. Either of the Ecks vs Sever games are really smooth FPS games.
I like this channels style
High value in this list! Adding a few more games to my ezFlash cartridge 💕
flash cartridge? what are you using?
@@francesfuego6950 it's called EZ-FLASH IV. It's a GBA cartridge with a mini SD port so you can add GBA roms to it
I agree, swordcraft story 2 is simply gorgeous!
Summon night swordcraft story 3 Monogatari GBA 👍👍👍
@@rashyre1519too bad there's no full English translation yet
Gekido looks like it would be at home on the NeoGeo, amazing stuff...
Max Payne GBA is a gem.
Golden sun was an amazing looking game i was hooked as a kid
Awesome game choices. Rayman 3 would be perfect for the next graphically impressive gba games list. That game is in the very top of graphics on the gba in my opinion with extremely fluid animations and meticulously detailed environments the likes of which I've rarely seen on the gba, if at all.
Couldn't agree more!
Gba port of rayman 3 was better than the home console ports in my opinion
Tekken Advance actually surprised me, definitely not as good as home console pure 3d tekken, but I found myself not being able to put down the gameboy advance version!
So many gems on this platform. Amazing!
Great Stuff, as always!
Thanks Mekman!
Always thought Max Payne, Tekken Advance, Riviera, and Doom were amazing for their time!
Asterix and Driver should be included in this series
I always thought "Sonic Battle" was an underappreciated game. Full 3D, too
Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll have to add it in for part 3!
If you have access to a flash cart/Analogue Pocket/emulator, there is a patch for Doom to increase it's quality/add levels back/etc
Love the Tekken 2 intro music.
Love the Starforce ost.
I for one quite like how one of the GBA's launch titles, Super Mario Advance (the port of Super Mario Bros. 2), uses scaling effects. I wouldn't say that it's technically impressive as most other examples, especially considering that they had to butcher the sprite palettes to make up for the original GBA's unlit screen.
As for some of the effects I like, the game has lots of shrinking, growing, squashing, stretching and 360° rotation effects. There's apparently also a static effect if you get hit by a Spark, but I'm rubbish at Mario 2 and haven't beaten the second level yet, so I haven't managed to see that particular enemy and graphical effect yet.
It's also got some voice acting as well and I know that voice acting isn't a graphical thing, but it's got voice acting in a Mario game that comes on a 4 megabyte cartridge.
Truth be told, saying that a SNES port is graphically and technically impressive would probably get you funny looks, but I'm an absolute sucker for scaling effects and they make me smile. That and the fact that nobody ever seems to talk about the GBA Mario ports.
Max Payne was my first GBA game.
Great first game to have!
How did I miss that Max Payne game?! It looks amazing
1:58 Tekken on GBA is great, played it many years ago and enjoyed it then brought it again only last year and still enjoyed it.
need remake for smoother
Man, Treasure games are just instantly recognizable
17:59 I think the first few Zelda games proved that pretty good already.
Yes! I thought of Megaman zero, swordcraft story and minish cap before starting the vid. I'd also say Yggdra Union had a unique style
You should do a follow up episode on graphically unimpressive gba games.
I was so excited for Mega Man Zero when it was announced. When I got it, I thought it was too hard lol! I also have LoZ: The Minish Cap, though I never played much of it.
Nightfire? Ah, yes, the “SOMEBODY KEEL EEEM!” simulator.
we allways called the blue boss in the minish cap..wobbuffet
Funny, some of the games here are games I just started capturing footage of for an upcoming episode on my channel 👍. So many excellent choices here, and some other games I need to check out here too (like Summon Night)! Another excellent episode as always man! Truly one of the best channels on YT!
GBA max payne blew my mind back in the day when it was new
Mind blown… I recently bought a GBA micro
Ya the minnish cap may be my favorite Zelda game
This one is more of a hidden gem but Tokyo xtreme racer advance is abit impressive game on gba console
This was actually in the draft version of this video but I cut it for part 3. Such an impressive racer!
@@thatvideogamesshow 🤩 wow
Yo you just put me onto some games! Thanx bro
Glad to hear it!
@@thatvideogamesshowbro may i ask the musice used in 2:00 during tekken part? Thanks in advance
This is one of those channels you immediately hit the like button before watching 😊👍
True
I feel an underrated one is Wario land 4. It has so many amazing environments and also the bosses are horrifying. Shame Wario hasn’t had a game like that in so long 😢
My fav gba game.
Heck yeah Wario Land 3 and 4 are up there for me
@@DanielSmith-ll2iw I might need to try 3. 4 was given to me by a friend and I actually never beat it but had so much fun playing it and the mini games.
@@theerealatm Play it on Nintendo Switch
@@DanielSmith-ll2iw wait... Its available on switch?! I was finna emulate it but I'll do that!
Oh man i got to try a lot of these! Ty ez flash
VERY THANKS, my best portable consolle💪🤛👍 Like from ITALY 👍💪
Thanks for watching!
Summon Knight Swordcraft Story 2 reminds me of Zelda II: The Adventure of Link.
I tried replaying advance Guardian Heroes today but less than 5 minutes in i had to put it down the controls felt so unresponsive compared to most beat em ups I've played even on the same system
There's combos that want too to string from ground to aerial attacks but you can't even jump during your base multi hit combo and you have to sit still in order to use it so it just felt like everything was sluggish
Another best graphic were metroid series, fire emblem, super robot wars og 2, kingdom hearts, advanced wars, castlevania series
One of the best looking games on the GBA I've ever seen is Gundam seed destiny (Japanese only, it's the sequel to Gundam battle assault) it seemed to use the same technique as in Donkey Kong country where the sprites are made based on screenshots of 3d models
Is there a patched rom I wonder?
@@RemoWilliams1227 that's a good question, i have the physical cartridge so i don't know if there's a rom, there probably is one tho
Maaaan no mention of Fire Emblem ? that game has some of the coolest animations on the gba
Which one? FE7?
Gunstar heroes, Astro boy and Mega Man Zero series have really good graphics
Riviera the Promise Lands looks very cool
Gundam seed is also one of the best games on gba
GBA is an amazing platform and your list is great, thanks a million!
✌🏼😁🎮
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love your channel ❤
I always liked the battle network graphics amazing 2d sprites
Good shout, will add one in for part 3!
Absolutely. The art direction and all around visuals are super neat-o. My only gripe is that when you're online the areas are kind of uninspired and same-y.
Back in the day I played all of this GBA games on my N-Gage QD using emulator but tekken always lagged in selection screen 😄
More gba stuff please!!!
I loved the DS, but looking back I can't help but wonder what the gba could have done if the DS got pushed back a year or two extra
Ghost rider for me is top 10 for the graphics side
I wish there was an HD mod for 3D games
3DSen emulator for other retro systems than NES is a future goal. Someday.
Ngl i didn't know that Advance Guardian Heroes exist in Gba
The king of fighters ex2 too is great
Bro had me till 007, then I had to the straight to the comment section and object ☝️
The Max Payne is kinda goofy, the way bullet time is where he dives every...single...time... in cases where he wouldn't need to dive at all. But I guess as some kind of power fantasy it works.
Imo, Minish cap is one of the best in the series which is kinda weird bcs it's developed by Capcom
I tried to get DOOM for the GBA as a kid but I couldn't find it in any of my local stores.
If you buy a flashcart you could have all these games at the tip of your hands. Collecting physical games is a chore right now because of the elevated prices, so the flashcart is a extremely viable option
Star Wars Episode 3 looked great on GBA
Mn, gotta check out Gekido , wasnt even on my raider
Well worth giving it a go. It’s a great beat em up!
I miss pixel art games like this it just wasn’t outta asthetic choice the designers put so much effort into making games like mother 3 or sonic advance look as smooth polished and fun to play as possible they don’t make games like that anymore
Where is that tune from in the intro? I swear i have heard it before.
Tekken 2! 🙂
@@thatvideogamesshow thanks! Love your videos!
bakuten shoot beyblade 2002 hen takao/daichi have to be one of the best looking GBA games ever
background music that plays tekken video . Trauma center-second opinion
Pinkie is bleedin greenie
When I first played max payne on the gba I genuinely couldn't believe it was the FULL game!!! As opposed to some of those nefarious and misleading DS titles from back in the day.. (Need for speed most wanted, MW3, Black ops to name a few of the worst)
