I like how at the beginning of the story everything is colorful and happy, but as they grow older everything becomes dark, implying that there is no longer any innocence left.
in the original novel, the reason why Hailan was unable to investigate Hu Yunjiao earlier was because:
1. *Wei Yan'wan already fixed Hu Yunjiao's background by erasing all traces of Tian Yun'er* : revealed by Wei Yan'wan in one of her futile attempts to emotionally break Ruyi during their final conversation
2. *Da Rules* : as Hu Yunjiao was a low ranking prince's concubine *she was forbidden to meet Hailan* (only the _difujin_ were allowed to meet-and-greet their mother-in-law)

referencing the original novel, *the video title actually gets it on the nose*
1. *Hailan made an alliance with the Mongolian concubines* (already aggrieved at the state of things) and assisted them at least 2 times:
1.a. *further spread the rumor (already rampant in the Forbidden City) that Wei Yan'wan murdered Ruyi* ; and even made it more convincing since Barin Yanfu, Consort Ying & 7th princess Jing'yuan witnessed with distaste a gloating Wei Yan'wan walk out of Yikunmen Gate and Ruyi's final moments with the embroidery scissors stabbed on her chest
1.b. *personally helped Barin Yanfu during 7th princess's kidnapping* : at the time Barin Yanfu was tasked by Qianlong to head Ruyi's funeral committee, and due to her busy state was caught unawares when Wei Yan'wan ordered Jing'yuan's kidnapping. It also helped that Jing'yuan had no hard feelings with her maternal siblings and wasted no time telling them that Wei Yan'wan was "a bad woman" who "killed" Ruyi, and those words along with witnessing Wei Yan'wan revealing her true colors by physically hitting Jing'yuan later made the children lose any sort of filial connection with Wei Yan'wan (who was already under punishment of restricted child visits)
2. *Xiangjian was the number one antagonizer during Wei Yan'wan's Morning Meeting Club©* , always emphasizing that *Ruyi was still the Empress Consort of Qing* (Qianlong did intend to depose Ruyi but she was much quicker with her ŝụïçıďə) *and that she did things properly and by the rules*
(Xiangjian was indeed promoted to Consort rank at this point, and her promotion instruction was that 12th prince Yongji be placed under her care & protection)
It didn't help that Dowager Empress Chongqing poked at Wei Yan'wan's psychological wounds by asking why she remains unpopular with the rest of the imperial harem despite being their OIC for many years
3. *Wang Fuzhi, Consort Dun (aka Ruyi 3.0), was personally pimped by Hailan & Xiangjian from the Flower House* and became Qianlong's newest It Girl
(in the revised version of the novel, one of Ruyi's final instructions was to locate Wang Fuzhi who was at Yuanming'yuan/Imperial Summer Palace)
4. in the 10-year timeskip, it was *Hailan who practically forced Chen Wan'yin, Imperial Concubine Wan* (guilt tripping her from the Empress Xiaoxian Elegies™ plotline) *to inform Qianlong of all of Wei Yan'wan's crimes* (complete with a paper trail list, all Hailan's detective work); reasoning that Chen Wan'yin was the last person Qianlong would even think of being a schemer
(basically similar to Consort Duan in "Empresses in the Palace" during the Cui Jinxi-Su Peisheng plotline)

last year someone translated the complete original novel into English and posted it into 💡🗒 , but months later the fan translator either deactivated her account or privated the whole thing, allegedly due to someone reposting their work without credit, but so far there's no evidence to support the piracy claim
yes basically Hailan was a ŕąpė survivor and Ruyi had to beg then-prince Hongli to induct her in his harem, lest he suffer Yongzheng's wrath; hence why in the earlier episodes Hailan was meek as a mouse and the real story wasn't let out due to SARFT's micromanaging censorship cuts, among others
(in a rather twisted coincidence Hongli was also conceived in the same manner: Yongzheng was drunk off deer blood when he "encountered" Li Jin'gui in Yuanming'yuan/Imperial Summer Palace...one of the reasons why Ruyi was so adamant during that specific plotline)

2. Qing'ying had to convince Hong'li to take her in or else face his father Yongzheng Emperor's wrath
also, "defiled" is putting it rather mildly, she was яāфęđ while he was drunk
It’s comforting to know that Imperial Concubine Wan was the one to nail the coffin. She was the longest lived concubine in Qianlong’a Harem too.

and in the end Chen Wan'yin said to Hailan "you forced me to act against my will, but afterwards I felt so relieved after letting it all out"
context is that Hailan & Chen Wan'yin were the only concubines left from the original Imperial Prince Bao manor lineup; Chen Wan'yin remarked that eveything in Yanxigong Palace was as old as they were and Hailan remarked those were all touched by Ruyi; and then the conversation turned to Wei Yan'wan about to celebrate her 50th birthday and Hailan's seething rage that she dared to reach that age and even celebrate, while Ruyi's afterlife is anything but dignified
