Thanks Mike enjoyed your overview! All of us who subscribe to your software do so because I consider it a one-stop-shop for all I need to log, organize and utilize my hobby to its fullest. Many of us are extremely excited for the upcoming changes. The interface does look quite dated now, and that alone will be nice (you mentioned it was written in the Windows 98 timeframe, that's exactly what the interface looks like to me lol). I also really like the QRZ picture that comes up with each log record. I also use DM380 for primarily psk31, occasionally others, especially during a special contest weekend -- this DM380 interface is busy and could also use a refresh. I like how you've simplified things so far - although I know it is complex under the covers, it's nice to have a intuitive and not-so-busy interface. DM380 is another that could be much better with a simpler (more intuitive) interface. I also LOVE the idea of integrating contesting into the whole suite. I don't contest a lot now, but plan to in the near future and that would be awesome to integrate. Impressed with what you have so far, keep up the good work, looking forward to the final release!
I paid without having anything still waiting ..... all the logs have entered the TCI radio control and there is still nothing here ..... I'm sorry I won't pay anymore until the software is complete ...... we don't know when??????
Explain to me what is complete means? Even in my 51 years of defense weapon systems acquisition or design, there is no such thing as complete? If you have a list of HRD requirements, then you are ahead of HRD staff and I.
Thanks for the update Mike. I am in the camp I do think its well overdue. I hope that's its released before mid September, because I have had no software updates for 2 years, paying approximately £60 and I cant see me paying another £30 for another year for nothing new comes out again. I must say due to your lack of news updates I am now running another logbook software alongside HRD. Remember its easy to get new customers the art is keeping your existing customer.
Thanks for the update Mike. I appreciate some of the pressures that you are under, particulalrly by the way the presentation was carefully worded. You obviously have "one eye" on the rest of the field and I like one of the other commenters, have moved to another logging programme particularly for contesting and then export those logs into HRD logging (although HRD won't import any contacts that have the same locator square as me). Seeing contesting way off to the right of your chart may affect some people's decisions, and with the likes of Station Master "disrupting" but being attractive to a new generation who like social media and league tables where they can see their (and friends') avatar is a world away from HRD logging ( I prefer HRD), the playing field is changing rapidly. I wish you continued success - 73 de Terry
Let them move on as the rest of the programs are not so tightly integrated and soon most will be legacy and unsupported. With HRD all of my computers and radios are basically little to no hands-on these days.
Mike, Thank you on the continuous path towards an improved and updated series of applications. I understand the obstacles encountered, especially with the limitations of Microsoft Access. I was an industrial programmer and sympathize with you on the development of a new and updated application. Please don’t rush the end product, even though you might think it is taking too long for the enduser. Tim 73
Yeah, it's all a balance. We've certainly got some customers who want to see frequent releases. But after we get Logbook (6.9) out, we'll be able to do more of that while development on the other apps is progressing. But I very much DO want it "right."
Thanks for the update and preview!! Can't wait. I have almost 100k QSO's with MySQL and while it works, there are bugs so am looking forward to a clean new version! Love this software more than any other I have used.
HAMRADIO DELUXE is a great piece of software! Unfortunately, I can no longer use it since I switched to Linux. That's why I'm eagerly awaiting a Linux version!
Why Linux? The myth of it for Users vice servers remains. Even in major weapon systems aside from server and conventional IT networks, it is not worth the pain. Windows - get over it folks even for one who is versed in assembly and RTOS systems for weapons.
Will DM780 still only work within the HRD environment? It's a unique program and it would be great if one could use it separately from the HRD package. 73, Bob WK2Y
There aren't any plans for that. I've never been in-favor-of the idea of supporting 3rd party software connections into DM-780 (it's hard enough with 3rd party apps that connect to Logbook).
The work actually IS being done offshore (but not in China). I don't think anyone could completely rewrite an application in four weeks that took 15 years to get to this point. And we're not going to lose any to SK mate. Everything is going to be fine.
@@HamRadioDeluxe hey I'm not really worried. I'm happy with what I've got. I've paid for it and I'm using it. It works perfectly well. I'm just saying that outsourcing is cheap efficient and gets the job done pretty quickly.
I've been asked for that. The problem is... if you start clicking and clicking and clicking... I'm not sure how much your rotor will enjoy that. That said... once you put the call in the ALE, you can click to turn from there. Also... if I'm working EU, I generally go to the rotor app and double-click on EU and leave it.
I would really question spending resources on the 32-bit platform. Perhaps a poll to see how many people are still stuck in the 20th century running HRD on 32-bit might be be in order. Thanks for the update Mike.
I've found that it's hard to make statements about specific times. But I did want everyone to know (a) how we're getting there and (b) the level of commitment we're making to getting the work done. So, I can't say when... but we do know how we're going to get there.
Thanks for the update. Please would you post this link to your Blog on the Website as I didn't know this video existed until after my post on FB. It may stop people constantly asking the question. I'm happy to join the Beta team if needed. G1ZHD
Thank you for the update! I'm excited to see HRD will be available for Linux! I can appreciate that you cannot put exact dates for version releases. Too many variables (pardon the programming pun) that could go wrong and result in pushing it off. Better to ascribe to "it will be released when its ready". It's looking great so far. Kudos to all that are making this possible!
Thanks for the presentation & information. Quite an effort there and it's not a small thing. BUT! I must admit I expected a lot more information on the proper & exact list of bugs fixed before any new additions not relating to D.B technology or development tools are inserted. (It is a deal breaker in my view). Good luck.
Understood. Our development system has always been open for public view. You can get to it from development.hamradiodeluxe.com It's wide open (read only). There, you will see any content that is moving forward for minor enhancements and improvements. In some cases, you can actually see the dialog between the developers, the beta team, and me. The "Change Log" is the release notes which will tell you what was included in previous releases. But generally, we expect to nearly clear the Logbook backlog in 6.9.
@@HamRadioDeluxe Thank you & yes I am familiar with the list. What bothers me are things like this example for instance - i.d 3905 about frequencies above 2.3 Ghz not logging correctly. The default locator should not be getting populated into a QSO unless there are no valid lookup sources. I'd have to see your specific case (and I'm happy to have you contact me through support with more detail). But what you're describing isn't the way it's supposed to work.
They've been working (on this version) for about 14 months now. I didn't say it would "hopefully be released in 2024." I said I'm hoping to see a beta before Dayton 2024.
I was excited to watch this video and see how you guys would reimagine your program. You have wonderful capabilities but the upsides are overshadowed by some glaring problems. Reading your email updates, I was hopeful that you were going to revamp this program for the modern age. It’s clear that you are fixing up the back end while leaving the clunky Windows 98 experience fully intact. The stacked menus and dated icons are tiresome. The windows within windows makes my eyes want throw up. I’m not saying this to crap on your parade but I really love for you to look for ways to modernize your UI. If you can bring HRD into the modern computer age and make it an intuitive program, you will have something amazing.
In the video, I used the phrase "modernize our code" several times. The core reason for that is to create a platform for the modern age... one that is easily extendable... and where releases can come more quickly without risk. New features can come more quickly. Ham Radio Deluxe will continue its legacy as being the single most complete software for hams on the market. I'm not sure I know what "windows within windows" are, but... I'm not a fan of the "floating ALE" and I generally don't like to "undock" the panes (but lots of people do). But it's flexible enough so that you can create a view where you can eliminate things you don't want to see. I'm happy to help you with that.
Really like the consolidation of the QSL tabs. HATE the idea of giving 'prime real estate' in the lookup column to a picture that provides absolutely no value. If you really want it in the lookup column, please move it to the bottom so the important items are up at the top - much the way it is today. And I can understand the sentiments of some of the other users, as my subscription renews in a couple of weeks, and there hasn't been a single update since my last renewal.
And we still want to consolidate things. Version 7 will have a consolidated setup UI... so you can open it from any app and a wizard can walk you through the setup or you can go on-your-own. That's coming in v7.
I'd completely eliminate all 32 bit support. I realize that it would cause folks with 32 bit machines to be stuck at 6.x, but it eliminate a lot of complexity.
i hop this time you can log frequencys that are higher the 2300mhz. because you always told us , this is a BUG ... but it wasn't. so can you confirm that we are able to Log 5800Mhz or 10GHz QSOs ??
I'm not sure I'd call it a bug. But it is a limitation of technology that was out of our control. That problem goes away with the move to SQLite. This is already fixed and tested in 6.9.
This is beyond a joke. There be no more money from me. I am running a couple of logbooks along side so I can make the switch. Nothing from HRD. Come September my renewal is up £60 from me the last 2 years and no updates. The clock is ticking
