- Опубліковано 13 вер 2024
- In this video Project 996 continues with the brake calipers and brake lines - we take them off, take them apart and get them stripped down ready for refinishing. We're replacing the rubber brake lines with braided stainless steels lines and the calipers themselves are getting power coated to look brand new. You can follow this procedure for both 996 and 997 brakes. Come check it out!
As ever, thanks so much for watching my videos and supporting my channel. Keep the comments and chat coming! More videos coming soon. Cheers!

Since you are at it.... Consider upgrading the master cylinder. 997 GT3 is a great one! It eliminates all the traveling the 996 one has.
Nice one, thanks!!
Quick tip, press the brake pedal and keep it pushed down (wood stick etc...) to avoid all brake fluid to leak out. It "locks" the oil in the lines and the fluid reservoir.
Thanks for the tip!
Good tip!
Approved ! 10 out of 10
Cheers Trond!!
Awesome
Cheers Paul!!
Wow nice job, I don’t think I could have done that entire job within 16 minutes ....🤣🤣 can’t wait to see the next episodes...
Another a great video along the path of this awesome project 👍
Cheers Clive!!
Great video! Question: the caliper you took off doesn't look too bad. It looks like it would clean up just fine. Are you having it powder coated to change the color or are the others worse?
You're right, the calipers are actually in pretty good condition. We're considering changing their color to match the overall design style we have in mind. We're still on the fence a bit though.
@@AutoAmateur Ah yeah, I think matching the calipers with the exterior paint would look sweet! Can't wait to see what you do!
Caliper rebuild kits are $45 per caliper.
ON IT!
Repaint the calipers, pick a color other than red, black or yellow - make the car unique. You can get Porsche brake decals at www.ccdecals.com they are not expensive.
Thanks Ronald!! I was looking for new decals. Appreciate it!
Sitting with both legs directly under the "disk" while on lift/jack stands makes me nervous....
I know, right?! The scissor lift though has a mechanical fail-safe that makes it virtually impossible for the car to move once it's up and in the parked position. If the hydraulic lines failed or we lost power, or both, the lift won't go down. The only way to make the car move would be push it sideways and move the center of gravity into an unsafe position. But given the weight of the car, it's more likely for the lift to move with the car than the lift staying still and the car moving off to the side.
@@AutoAmateur Thanks...nothing can repeal the "law of gravity".
I still enjoy your channel. Looking forward to seeing the completed car.
So I'm sitting here watching all the fun you guys are having, then I thought..hmmmm🤔I wonder what Ruthie is saying about all this... we could hope for another profound statement perhaps (.. better than hookers and blow... if I remember correctly)ミ●﹏☉ミ.
Love it, keep it up!
Hahaha. Thanks Rick! Thankfully Ruthie is fully on board. She's definitely sure this is still better than hookers and blow.
Auto Amateur Ruthie will do anything for free tee shirts 🙏 When I say anything she probably would draw the line replacing an AOS on a Boxster 😂
its not ment to be powder coated...
Worked like a charm though!
