The shady part about using criminals period; is what makes them a criminal.
Your talking America or Britan or something that's one thing. But like a radical state in the middle east? yeah that gal had her face to visible now shes at risk of being a philosophers stone?
Thats the real horror of it. You need more people then you make less fair law.

4:30 on the topic of encripting research. In the manga it is mentioned somewhere that Roy mustangs notes are disguised as dates with countless women, while Eds is a travel journal.

Fun bit of trivia: Lust's VA is married to Mustang's VA.

Is anyone going to ask if Marcoh's books are good cook books?
It is funny, the boys were in such a hurry. And Lust made the time they arrived seemingly meaningless because she burned down the library. But then if the boys didn't get there in time they couldn't have saved Sheska (not sure of spelling)

Even if the Elrics took Marco's stone, once they found out the truth of their creation, they would never have used it to get their bodies back. It was a mistake that they fully take the blame for and they would never want to sacrifice anyone else's life or soul to rectify it

Execution and being Experimented on are two very different things tho..
Execution wether by firing squad or injection is atleast in a sense humane in my opinion.
you give someone their last rites and wishes and still respect them as a human being..
but being experimented on.. like a lab rat..
haven't we seen what horrible things come from that? :( (poor nina)
and to be honest, justifying experimentation on criminals because they have done bad deeds, makes us no better then them.
and yes Lust was very much an influence for my taste in hot dark haired woman XD not gay tho :P but still.

I mean, because doctors as a rule are unwilling to work on lethal injection for ethical reasons, the lethal injection process we have is actually deeply inhumane - it's one of the most painful methods we've found, it just looks more humane because it also shuts down motor functions so the person being executed can't move after injection. A firing squad, maybe unintuitively, will generally be much more humane.
But yeah I see your point, being experimented on is it's own kind of issue.

I love the casual inclusion of the name Flamel in connection with the Philosopher's Stone at 4:53.

    !!! Spoiler Below !!!
Convicts being turned into philosopher's stones as an acceptable form of execution do sounds like a... well... acceptable outcome (not for Erlics for whom any life is precious, tho) given it WERE a simple execution with additional bonus, however that is a bit deeper than a simple "kill the prisioners who were already signed for execution" type of deal. First: there had to be a period of trial and error which makes it a human experimentation rather than a clean kill. Second: The Philosopher's Stone is made from the souls not lives. And it does not kill those solus, it traps them converting them into a battery of sorts. That way turning convicts into a stone is rather a form of an eternal torture. And then there is the whole problem of wrongful conviction which in a state like Amestris is more than likely... But yeah! This episode does point that the problem here may be a bit bigger than we originally may have thought :D
