Can you please tell me whether January is a good time to visit Norway. I would love to experience this beautiful country however, January is the only time I have time off.
@@debbiedarcy904TLDR: yes, but check the weather and plan (and DRESS) accordingly. depends on where in norway, but it's usually pretty cold unless you're here in the summer months. but if you are prepared for cold and rain/snow, (which some people are, because they live in a contry were those are rare or non-existent.) then yes, january is good time to visit.
Moved from the UK a few years ago, and live on the island of osteroy, and you can see my house from boat on that fjord cruise. Best of luck to you on future travels.
Wow that's incredible! We are both seriously considering moving to Norway in the future when we finally settle down. It's just the most stunning place and a great country. We also said about how incredible it must be to live along the fjord somewhere! You have a great hometown (or island!) :) Thank you so much 🙏🙂
Good day my friend, on moving to Norway do as much homework as possible, it hasn't been easy for me, on moving here, but worth it in the end Good luck to you and every success in your endeavours 👍
@@chrisottaway7306 thank you for the advice! We certainly wouldn't jump into it quickly. What issues did you have to overcome to move there? Thank you so much, we really appreciate it :)
Good day my friend, one issue was with getting a D, number, (socal security number), you need a work contract first to get your D number from the tax office, and can't open bank account without the D, number first, I don't know where you're moving, from, if you're coming from outside of EU. There could be other requirements needed. I hope this helps, Good luck my friend. 👍
@@chrisottaway7306 ahh I see! Thank you for the info, that’s good to know. We will certainly be doing a lot of research before any big decisions. We will hopefully have an Irish passport by then too, so that should help a little with the EU issue!
@@pinkvelvet3865 thank you 🙏 haha yeah it may be easier with less snow… but we just love winter vibes. Having said that, we cannot wait to return to Norway in spring and summertime 😍
We’ve not heard of this before! We only had a few days but we loved Bergen so much, we will be coming back to Norway soon. Added to the list of things to see! Thank you so much for the recommendation ☺️
Fantoft stave church is rebuilt after a fire, so it’s not old. To see a more than 800 year old stave church you should visit Borgund outside of Lærdal in Sognefjorden. Or the beautiful Urnes stave church (built in year 1130) in Lustrafjorden.
Yeah, trains in Norway has been notoriously shit ever since the last train "reform". I'm sorry you had to experience that, but happy you made the best of it.
Ahhh that’s interesting! Seems like rail travel/ownership/system is an issue in a few European countries these days. We absolutely made the most of it though - the views were a major part of why we wanted to take the train ☺️
The railroad reform has nothing to do with how shit the railroad infrastructure is in Norway, it just prevents VY (formerly NSB) to have commercial monopoly. Its political neglect and incompetence that's the issue. Due to the insane bureaucracy in Norway, the plans never get put to life due to change of political power in the meantime.
15:01 It's actually pretty close to correct. It's a "Ø" though, not a "O". "Æ", "Ø" and "Å" are separate Norwegian letters, not the letters in English with an accent.
@@BenandMarnie The new trains are actually from the maker of the replacement trains you were on, but a model actually built for long distances. The current Stadler FLIRT trains are built for local and shorter regional routes. So no cafe, not as comfortable seats and so on. That being said, they are usually running quite well and the toilets usually work fine.
@@BenandMarnie If you were in a hurry, you wouldn't take the train. I go Bergen-Oslo for work sometimes and I usually take the night trains for example. But a plane is like 2hours including getting to and from the airport.
@@BenandMarnie There are tons of houses like that more north, though, it’s not central at all. Some people usually drive more than one hour to get some groceries, which I could never, coming from a Bergen city girl. People who live in places like that usually have a farm they run and/or plant wheat. Or, retired people who grew up there. Even though I’m a city girl, being in a place where you can’t spot any buildings, is so refreshing and relaxing and it’s a place to easily feel at ease. I hope you guys can come back and visit more places in the future and fall even more in love with Norway.
@@tildepetunia6585 we agree, it’s so refreshing to get out into nature and enjoy the blissful peace and quiet. We can’t think of anywhere better in the world to enjoy that than Norway 😍😀

Europe's most scenic train routes are in Switzerland
Switzerland is certainly on our bucket list. Looks absolutely incredible 😍
That's a matter of opinion. One thing is for certain Switzerland doesn't have the northsea juxtaposition
