Thank you so much for your videos. This one is especially helpful. I have been teaching for 24 years 20 in Kindergarten and 4 years in 1st grade). I am moving to 2nd grade next year and obviously, after 20 years of teaching Kinder, I am feeling VERY unprepared to teach 2nd grade. Your videos have been super helpful and this video is great and has helped my mind prepare for math groups!

This video has been very helpful. I will be starting my first year of teaching this coming fall after graduating from college as a 1/2 combination teacher. Any advice on how I should use math stations with two different grades and how to/when to start teaching stations to my students at the beginning of the year? Sorry with the all the questions I didn't get to experience math stations when I was student teaching and your advice would be very helpful to me when planning. Thank You.

I'm so glad to hear that! Congratulations on your upcoming first year of teaching!! I would recommend starting math stations after teaching some station games/activities whole group. Give all students the chance to play in pairs or groups during the first weeks of school so that when you begin stations officially, everyone knows what to do and how to play. We kept stations the same for the first couple weeks until students were comfortable and then I would introduce something new. Ideally, you'd be grouping students by their pre-test results for each math unit (so looking at ability, regardless of grade level.)

Hi! Thank you so much for posting this! My students math scores were low this year :( and I’m looking to change things up! Going to reorganize for next year! Do you mind sharing what helped struggling students during small group? Visuals? Manipulatives? All the above? Lol. Or was it the reteaching and reinforcing? Can you link the phonics snap game too? Thank you!!! ❤

Thank you so much for watching, Karina! I think the small group concept helped because it allowed for all of the things you mentioned. I loved being able to fine tune instruction to what those students needed. Often my lowest students benefitted from manipulatives more than my higher students who understood how to use the algorithm without manipulatives. It also helped to slow the pace down for the students that needed that and be able to do a lot more problems together in scaffolding them to independence. Also, I added the Snap it Up Phonics game in the description links for you! Enjoy! ;)

Can you explain the difference between your table groups worksheet and your independent dry erase page? Is the table group a page from the current days lesson?
Also, can you show the 3 rotations?

@@timi2070 Hi there, they are one and the same! The table group is doing the independent work page inside the dry erase page holder. ;) And yes, we do the page that gives them independent practice of the whole group lesson we just completed together. You’ll see each of the 3 rotations and examples of what happens in each in this video! We have independent work (aka group table,) math game (board game or game on the actual smart board), and technology.
