Thanks so much for sharing this. I had the cd some years ago. It was interesting, but I loved the Jon Anderson tracks. Then, years later, I went to play it and it was gone. Every now and then I would search my collection again but now, after a brain injury, I couldn’t remember what it was called and what it looked like, just that Jon sang on it and it was about Native American issues. Finally, recently, after looking at each of my cd’s individually, I decided someone must have borrowed it. You know how that goes. It was gone, and I didn’t begin to know how to find it. I’ve been going through a bunch of stuff on UA-cam lately on Jon and Yes (Hi, my name is Tom and I’m a Jon addict!) and, to my absolute thrill, here it was, “Requiem for the Americas”. I found a decent priced copy on Amazon and had my first listen last night. I was in heaven. And the beautiful thing for me is that I rediscovered, not just these lost (to me) Jon Anderson pieces, but this entire work of art which I hadn’t fully appreciated before. One thing I noticed that I’d appreciate a little help with. Over the last years I’ve gotten to the point where I listen to little else besides Jon Anderson and Yes (with Jon). One thing I noticed re-listening to Requiem was the similarity between it and a bunch of Jon’s solo work. Is there a reason for this? Does Jon have more to do with the composition and production of the whole piece besides his two beautiful songs, “Within the Lost World,” and “Far Far Cry”? So, once again, thank you for ending my long Jon search. Now all I need to do is find my 3 Ships cd which was also “borrowed.” Oh well, al least I can still hear it on UA-cam (too expensive to buy the original).✌️
I remember the first time I heard this (actually it was the first time I ‘saw’ it)…we just moved into a new house - I had my own bedroom AND I had cable tv! This video came on and I heard ‘his’ voice and everything stopped. When I put the words and the pictures together I realized that Jon was a deep deep person/musician/poet. I play RFTA in the car every time I can - it moves me every time.
YES , OK I AM forward, radio hum, hello what a beautiful day, a good day, somehow this wonderful song answers some very important questions in my mind, , wow a lot of hats to carry around, more like a lot of wonderful brothers,
I was present for some of this recording in NYC in the late 1980s and at first impressed with Jonathan Elias’ picking up the torch of soundscape composition. But jump ahead a few years to the Yes ‘Union’ album and he, as producer actually used other musicians to add additional guitars to add to and replace much of Steve Howe’s work complaining that Steve was too stoned on weed to focus on the music. The whole lp seemed to be a muddled effort with waning interest on all the participant’s behalf. EVEN SO, as a producer working with Master Composers and musicians with the talent of seven or eight Yes members, I would have seen to it that it was fully realized no matter what the cost. If I had to chase down Steve to the ends of the earth with a frickin’ cassette recorder to capture what was needed, I would have done it. Yes members are and always have been described as ‘difficult’ artists. So what? Would one accept a Van Gogh painting in the late 19th century and add brush strokes to it without his consent? A music producer’s job can be absolutely exhausting and border on crucifixion. But it’s ART that’s going to be listened to as long as the world turns and seeing the visions of giants like Anderson, Howe, Squire etc, you have to be dead set on using the opportunity to get the artist’s very best. That all said, I get it and don’t envy the position of being stuck in the insanity of a slew of musicians (and their managers, and record labels) under schedule/budget constraints. It’s very difficult. But the piece above is 30 years old and still is relevant sounding with a very passionate contribution from Jon Anderson. Good work Mr Elias.
Thank you. Saw the Union Tour in '91, Toulouse, France. This is a great song and thank you very much for sharing !!! As they say, you learn something new every day !!!
I heard some of the yes live videos from the late 60's and early 70s. It was cringe worthy to listen to some of these. Never factored in drugs but did factor in bad recording equipment and techniques.
Hi George. Read my note from 6/18/21. When I had this cd years ago, I felt the same way. After a listen or two I would only put on the Jon tracks. After seeing this I bought another cd having lost mine and was like “wow” this is pretty amazing. Being a Jon addict, of course I’d rather be hearing him singing everything, but something has shifted and each voice was perfect for their part. Don’t give up on it. Check it out again later. Don’t forget to toke.✌️
@@tomrudderow5479 I did not intend to sound like I wrote off the other artists, nonetheless, Anderson's contribution clearly stood out to me. Brothers of the sun ascend
Be amongst us
Be there not afraid…
Sisters of the moon ascend
Be amongst us
Be there not afraid…
As all my life ascended
There the angels sang inside of me
The more you realize the more you gain.
As though there’s something living said
There beyond the garden of the windows
Rest upon the life
Lay it on the line
There lie the souls within the lost world
Where memory is forgotten
On the magic Horse of Fire.
And all the worlds are locked in memory
Caught within our apathy
You get the picture not the story.
Honor your past
Honor your life
Honor the history of the ancient.
As every thought creates a backlash
The senseless death
The waste.
Should it be a mantra
Should it be a book
You give a little knowledge
Realizing the glory of the wise…
And the ancient lives.

Be there not afraid.
