I...have been so lucky to have Yes and John Anderson in my life musically from a really early age. Wow...it never gets old.....

Thanks so much for sharing this. I had the cd some years ago. It was interesting, but I loved the Jon Anderson tracks. Then, years later, I went to play it and it was gone. Every now and then I would search my collection again but now, after a brain injury, I couldn’t remember what it was called and what it looked like, just that Jon sang on it and it was about Native American issues. Finally, recently, after looking at each of my cd’s individually, I decided someone must have borrowed it. You know how that goes. It was gone, and I didn’t begin to know how to find it. I’ve been going through a bunch of stuff on UA-cam lately on Jon and Yes (Hi, my name is Tom and I’m a Jon addict!) and, to my absolute thrill, here it was, “Requiem for the Americas”. I found a decent priced copy on Amazon and had my first listen last night. I was in heaven. And the beautiful thing for me is that I rediscovered, not just these lost (to me) Jon Anderson pieces, but this entire work of art which I hadn’t fully appreciated before. One thing I noticed that I’d appreciate a little help with. Over the last years I’ve gotten to the point where I listen to little else besides Jon Anderson and Yes (with Jon). One thing I noticed re-listening to Requiem was the similarity between it and a bunch of Jon’s solo work. Is there a reason for this? Does Jon have more to do with the composition and production of the whole piece besides his two beautiful songs, “Within the Lost World,” and “Far Far Cry”? So, once again, thank you for ending my long Jon search. Now all I need to do is find my 3 Ships cd which was also “borrowed.” Oh well, al least I can still hear it on UA-cam (too expensive to buy the original).✌️

I remember the first time I heard this (actually it was the first time I ‘saw’ it)…we just moved into a new house - I had my own bedroom AND I had cable tv! This video came on and I heard ‘his’ voice and everything stopped. When I put the words and the pictures together I realized that Jon was a deep deep person/musician/poet. I play RFTA in the car every time I can - it moves me every time.

I was present for some of this recording in NYC in the late 1980s and at first impressed with Jonathan Elias’ picking up the torch of soundscape composition. But jump ahead a few years to the Yes ‘Union’ album and he, as producer actually used other musicians to add additional guitars to add to and replace much of Steve Howe’s work complaining that Steve was too stoned on weed to focus on the music. The whole lp seemed to be a muddled effort with waning interest on all the participant’s behalf.
EVEN SO, as a producer working with Master Composers and musicians with the talent of seven or eight Yes members, I would have seen to it that it was fully realized no matter what the cost. If I had to chase down Steve to the ends of the earth with a frickin’ cassette recorder to capture what was needed, I would have done it.
Yes members are and always have been described as ‘difficult’ artists. So what? Would one accept a Van Gogh painting in the late 19th century and add brush strokes to it without his consent?
A music producer’s job can be absolutely exhausting and border on crucifixion. But it’s ART that’s going to be listened to as long as the world turns and seeing the visions of giants like Anderson, Howe, Squire etc, you have to be dead set on using the opportunity to get the artist’s very best.
That all said, I get it and don’t envy the position of being stuck in the insanity of a slew of musicians (and their managers, and record labels) under schedule/budget constraints. It’s very difficult. But the piece above is 30 years old and still is relevant sounding with a very passionate contribution from Jon Anderson. Good work Mr Elias.

I heard some of the yes live videos from the late 60's and early 70s. It was cringe worthy to listen to some of these. Never factored in drugs but did factor in bad recording equipment and techniques.

Hi George. Read my note from 6/18/21. When I had this cd years ago, I felt the same way. After a listen or two I would only put on the Jon tracks. After seeing this I bought another cd having lost mine and was like “wow” this is pretty amazing. Being a Jon addict, of course I’d rather be hearing him singing everything, but something has shifted and each voice was perfect for their part. Don’t give up on it. Check it out again later. Don’t forget to toke.✌️

@@tomrudderow5479 I did not intend to sound like I wrote off the other artists, nonetheless, Anderson's contribution clearly stood out to me. But when thinking of YES, I recognize all members from what is known as the YES classic lineup, as amongst the best musicians and masters of their craft. Here is Steve Howe performing at Guitar Speak, and evening where the world's best guitarists showed their stuff. ua-cam.com/video/9SeAbGzPYtA/v-deo.html To me, it is all an extension of Jon Anderson in some strange way.

“Everything is coming to a time where prophecy and man’s inability to live on Earth in a spiritual way will come to the crossroad of great problems. The Hopi believe that if you’re not spiritually connected to the Earth, and understand the spiritual reality of how to live on Earth, it’s likely that you will not make it. To me, it’s not a negative thing to know that there will be great changes. It’s not negative. It’s evolution. When you look at it as evolution, it’s time. Nothing stays the same….” ~ Chief Ernie Longwalker
    WITHIN THE LOST WORLD
    Brothers of the sun ascend
    Be amongst us
    Be there not afraid…
    Sisters of the moon ascend
    Be amongst us
    Be there not afraid…
    As all my life ascended
There the angels sang inside of me
The more you realize the more you gain.
As though there’s something living said
There beyond the garden of the windows
    Rest upon the life
    Lay it on the line
There lie the souls within the lost world
    Where memory is forgotten
On the magic Horse of Fire.
And all the worlds are locked in memory
    Caught within our apathy
You get the picture not the story.
    Honor your past
    Honor your life
Honor the history of the ancient.
As every thought creates a backlash
    The senseless death
    The waste.
    Should it be a mantra
    Should it be a book
    You give a little knowledge
Realizing the glory of the wise…
    And the ancient lives.
    Sisters of the moon ascend
    Be amongst us
    Be there not afraid.
    Brothers of the sun ascend
    Be amongst us
    Be there not afraid.
    Brothers of the sky ascend
    Be amongst us
    Be there not afraid.
    Mothers of the earth ascend
    Be amongst us
    Be there not afraid.
    BORN IN THE DREAMTIME
    PART I: FAR FAR CRY
    Count upon the sun
As it will always watch you growing
    Count upon the land
To sow the seeds in every young man.
    Beating on the drum
    Shouting at the moon
No matter what the promise is
I’ll never move from this old land of mine.
    The promise is to pay
Just watch the people try to steal
    The land beneath the clay
The land on which our blood has stained the grass.
    Beating on the drum
    Screaming at the moon
    Promises, oh promises
I’ll never move from this old land of mine.
    It’s a far far cry
From all the words of exultation
    A far far cry
How each child is supposed to be equal
    I’m amazed
As you look the other way
    To this day
    We still don’t believe
    Far far cry
    Beating on the drum
    Far far cry
    Screaming at the moon
    Beating on the drum
    Far far cry
How long do we need to push our brother to the ocean
How long do we need to push our sister to the sea
How many broken promises until we get the message
That until we know the equal we will never feel the free?
    It’s a far far cry
    It’s a far far cry
    It’s a far far cry
So until we know our equal
    We commit our suicide.
    Beating on the drum
    Screaming at the moon
    Count upon my heart
As you can feel the earth is beating
    Count upon my love
And there is heaven for the taking
    Count upon the rest
    Count upon the last
    Count upon the past
As it will wait until we’re coming home.
    Far far cry
    It’s a far far cry
    It’s a far far cry
    It’s a far far cry
How long do we need to push our brother to the ocean
How long do we need to push our sister to the sea
How many broken promises until we get the message
That until we know the equal we will never feel the free?
    It’s a far far cry
    Beating of the drum
    Far far cry
    Screaming at the moon
    Far far cry
    Beating of the drum
    Far far cry
    Screaming at the moon

"Time evolves and comes to a place where it renews again. There is first a purification time, then there is renewal time. We are getting very close to this time now. We were told that we would see America come and go. In a sense, America is dying… from within...because they forgot the instructions on how to live on earth.
Everything is coming to a time where prophecy and man’s inability to live on earth in a spiritual way … will come to a crossroad of great problems. It’s the Hopi belief, it’s our belief, that, if you aren’t spiritually connected to the earth, and understand the spiritual reality of how to live on earth, it’s likely you will not make it.
When Columbus came, that began, what we term as, the “First World War.” That was the true First World War - when Columbus arrived - because along with him came everybody from Europe. By the end of the Second World War, we were, in America, we were only 800,000. From 60 million to 800,000. So, we were almost exterminated here in America.
Everything is spiritual. Everything has a spirit. Everything… everything was brought here by the Creator - the one Creator. Some people call Him “God,” some people call Him “Buddha,” some people call Him “Allah,” some people call Him other names. We call Him “Concachilla”… “Grandfather.”
We’re here on earth… only a few winters. Then, we go to the Spirit World. The Spirit World is more real than most of us believe. The Spirit World is everything.
Over 95% of our body is water. And, in order to stay healthy, you’ve got to drink good water. When the European first came here, Columbus, we could drink out of any river. If the Europeans had lived the Indian way when they came, we would still be drinking out of rivers, because Water is sacred. The Air is sacred.
Our DNA is made of the same DNA as the tree. The tree breathes what we exhale. When the tree exhales, we need what the tree exhales. So, we have a common destiny with the tree. We are all from the earth. And when earth, water and the atmosphere is corrupted, then it will create its own reaction. Mother is reacting. In the Hopi prophecy they say the storms and floods will become greater.
To me, it’s not a negative thing to know that there will be great changes. It’s not negative, it’s evolution. When you look at it as evolution, it’s time. Nothing stays the same.
You should learn how to plant something. That’s the first connection. You should treat all things as Spirit - realize that we are one Family.
It’s never something like “the End.” It’s like Life - there is no end to Life."
    - Floyd Red Crow Westerman.

This and Toltec are filled with mindless hokum. If you could strip those two albums of the Native American tripe, you might have a good album between them, but as they are, they are almost unlistenable.
