As a notion power user, I can definitely say that this isn't an alternative, its a completely different software. Its nice to have a semblance of a second brain esque software, but it lacks a lot of the things that make notion so advantageous. I'm all for open source alternatives, but it has to be acknowledged that Gollum Wiki has a LONG ways to go. Nonetheless, I'm definitely going to look into making some contributions-- an actual open source alternative to notion would be impressive, especially since the software has a lot of features for power users that most don't use and some that are hard to replicate but make notion so intuitive (GUIs are just better than terminal stuff ngl). Thanks for informing me that this exists man, I'm definitely going to contribute-- but I probably won't be using it for a LONG time.
Hei, guy! I giving my first steps on coding, at 55yo... Hard times here in Brazil. Just want to say thanks for all the useful content. It will be very useful soon, very soon!
For me, personally, Gollum isn't a replacement or alternative for Notion but for a team-internal MediaWiki instance. Gollum is exactly what I was looking for after trying so many other Wiki-like tools: Easy to setup and to update without the risk of data loss, no need to login by default, everything is accessible and editable with very few clicks, a data format (Markdown) compatible to almost everything, no ugly Wiki syntax, a beautiful, simple and clean user interface without magic and a version history created out of git commits. Thanks very much for this recommendation! I installed Gollum for my team in a local network on a virtual linux server as a reboot-safe systemd service behind an nginx proxy to be able to easily setup SSL certificates as well as a more intuitive/common access via a hostname and port 80/443.
Theoretically yes, but at least the simple sync script I show in the video can't automatically handle merge conflicts. You could avoid conflicts by just making sure you don't use different servers within 15m of each other (or whatever cadence you set in Cron).
I prefer Obsidian, even though, unfortunately, it is not open source. It is, however convenient. You know, I will probably attempt programming an open-source alternative to Obsidian 😄
Now, a real open source Notion alternative that one can suggest to hierarchy at work? I mean, something with a decent GUI and that doesn't imply command lines...
personally not a heavy terminal user so I cant judge much about Gollum, but Notion's templates, ease of use, and google-like sharing capability is out of this world. as for notetaking, personally I use Joplin: its open-source, crossplatform, few option to integrate with cloud services (dropbox etc) another useful tool that joplin have is it chrome extension for web-clipping, and it also possible to fetch note through it localhost api
Joplin seems really nice, I've got to check it out. I have to agree with you on Notion though, it's a nice piece of software, and definitely does have some unmatched features.
I think this movie is inthe bg is “Police Story” ‘85 (Jackie Chan). i’m right?)
You got it, great movie!
If you'd like some stickers, can you add an email, Twitter, or Instagram link to your UA-cam profile so I can DM you?

Hey, good on you for taking your first steps! Really happy my content could be helpful - good luck!!
Glad org files are supported!

Glad you liked the video and Gollum, and agree with you - I was drawn to Gollum for very similar reasons that you mentioned
🤯🤯🤯 thank you this is incredibly helpful
Is support RTL ?
Can you have this running on multiple servers and syncing to the same git repo?

Anytype is pretty good and open source

Why not just use vimwiki :P
Cool, never heard of it. If I was a bigger vim guy it sounds like a neat solution
Notion alternative? You have to be kidding 😂

Man's Notion alternative is coding a website. This has to be one of the most disconnected tech videos I've seen in a while.
But this is installing, not coding. Trivial, although the software itself does not look that appealing
I used to use Mediawiki for a personal wiki. Messed around with MoinMoin too.
