Sorry digging up an old video because I have tried the Fat before with hard water and got a horrible dissipating lather. How long do you soak it for prior to shaving? And do you cover the whole puck or just put some water on top of the puck? Also hot water, warm water, or cold?
Honestly, I don't really think it needs special treatment. I would probably just come at it with a lightly wet brush and the first time I might load for 30 seconds. That will probably produce a ton of lather. I think in the beginning of my uses with this soap, I did soak it. And that was usually with just a few millimeters of water above the soap. But I've just found so often that with the hard soaps like fine, and tabac and mwf, they don't actually need soaking. Now the catch with MWF is that it seems that a few years ago they released a batch that was very difficult for even seasoned veterans to lather. I've definitely done several shaves with the fat on my channel here, so I would look for a few of those, especially the latter ones. Oh, now I remember. I think my latest work with the fat was when I had covid and I couldn't smell anything. I did a series where I got about 10 different soaps that I enjoyed using or wanted to try out but they just weren't spectacular in the smell department or they were pretty plain or they were focused mainly on the performance aspect instead of smells. I'm pretty certain that the fat was one of those. And that would have been maybe April May or June of last year I think. I also know that it's best to use it consecutively. That residual moisture left from the previous loading helps you to be able to pick up the soap the next day. And no I totally don't mind you commenting on Old video. That's what they're here for: hopefully to help people. And you know what, maybe I'll whip it out in the next couple of weeks and give it a few shaves as well. If I don't, jump into a comment and remind me!
Also, back when I did pre-soak my pucks, it was just with room temperature water and nothing warm or hot at all. There are tons of guys out there who like to use hot water on their hard soaps, but I just don't find it necessary.
@@sgrdddyshaves thanks. Tabac is probably one of my favorite hard soaps amd all I do for it is just a few drops of warm water on the puck to just activate it a little before the wet brush.
@@joshuawhite8928 I'm glad you already have tabac. Your technique with that one should be pretty similar with what you should do for the fat. Also I forgot to mention: you may want to try working it up a little before you start adding water. Meaning that the water that you have with your lightly wet brush should be all the water you mix in to start with until the lather starts looking kind of normal, or a pasty version of normal. Then start adding in water. Sometimes that method works really well, so give it a shot if you feel like it.
Super helpful video. I was just talking to you over on Reddit, and you were giving me some tips on lathering MWF (as I had a disastrous first use). Thanks again for the help and you pointing me to this channel. I will certain take the tips from this video (and your other videos) onboard, and use them when I next use MWF. Thanks again.
ua-cam.com/video/ovnWFQKDHuw/v-deo.html This is a vid I'm uploading now. I wondered what to use for my next shave, and I thought to try your situation with MWF and a synth. Hopefully it helps you out in some way. I never need an excuse to use the Fat. I like it a lot. I used a Tuxedo synth made a great lather in the bowl. I'm not a synth fan, and this shave didn't change that, but it sure did whip up a good lather.
I dont mean to be off topic but does anybody know of a tool to log back into an instagram account?? I was dumb lost the login password. I love any help you can offer me!
@Rene Kohen I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im trying it out now. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
That's not a priority for me, so I don't really track that to have a reliable list. But these are really good, off the top of my head, and in no particular order... * Noble Otter * DG Milksteak * BaM Excelsior * Chiseled Face Silk Tallow * Zingari Man * Wholly Kaw Siero
