We just leased an old Model Y in December. We took it our family of four on a 1200 mile round trip and I thought the range, efficiency and charging was very good (sometimes charged too fast!). I understand some people wish it would charge quicker, and it would be nice, especially if the charging curve was flatter as there is some anxiety pulling in at low states of charge. However, if Tesla was going spend money upgrading the vehicle, I think the materials, suspension, and NVH is where I would want it spent before range and charging performance and its seems like they have done just that. Teslas have always had class leading range, efficiency, packaging, software and of course the charging network, however they aren't great "cars" - if they were gas cars they would be extremely hard to recommend, I think this new Y, and the new 3 fixes that.
Tesla has been working out its kinks for a decade now. Look into the Porsche Macan EV. Price is not tremendously higher but the build quality, service, drive, and design is on another level.
@ yeah.. not a porsche fan. A lotta nuthin to me in that name, for 2 or 3 times the price. I don’t even like their aesthetics. I’m not saying Tesla is perfect.. but their software is unmatched, and bang for the buck is through the roof. I make good money.. but not enough to throw it away on a name. And let’s not pretend porsche never has any kinks of their own.. they just have a century head start on getting some things right. Which, for sure, they do get credit for doing some things very well. But a lot of it is of secondary, or less, interest to me.. while charging exorbitant amounts for everything you want in a modern car, because nearly nothing comes standard. Tesla is like the polar opposite. I prefer their approach to a car.
@@airheart1 I’ll hand it to Tesla that their software is good. Full self driving and the camera system. I had 2 Model 3s. My guess is it will be for the blinkers only. There was significant pushback because of PEOPLE having challenges in traffic circles not only in the United States, but in Europe too. I think it’s a smart compromise by Tesla. There will be no stalk for the drive reverse. Again, I applaud Tesla For getting it right.💪
@@ben-l8g2nAll that will be on the Steering Wheel as buttons. Looks like the new Turn Signal Stalk is just to trigger left/right indicator and that's it.
Thanks for sharing guys. I think that that turning signal stalk will not be so awkward in the ride when the vehicle cancels the signalling once you've made the turn. I also think that Tesla should have given the option of stalkless in the configurator. Also, the lightbar is going to give aftermarket suppliers opportunity but thinking that the three piece is cheaper to replace when damaged.
I agree. I don’t get it. I have a 23 MYP which has a harsher suspension and I find it perfectly adequate and the nvh is actually better than on my wife’s 2022 Model X Plaid. I feel like this was true for 2020 Model Y, but not for the latest versions. They added a lot of carpeting and the comfort suspension made a world of difference.
Now Tesla needs to make the black interior go away. Charcoal is my favorite, or ash grey, is easier to keep clean... black for recycling isn't important, just make the cars last twice as long/ as the do. So they don't need to be recycled, same difference.
Looks great! Only wish it had power frunk (open and close). I will definitely be ordering one in a few months, probably won't be able to get a Launch Edition, but that is ok. Great video guys!
Regarding the lightbar split I think it is for the same reason the rear of the Tesla Model Y Juniper is in different sections. It is to make it easier to repair. Cheaper as separate parts. Very good idea.
Word is that the front light bar is in three pieces so the owner can choose to turn off the center if they do not like light bars. Cool if true and may open up some interesting aftermarket options!
Have they started using seam sealant around doors/trunk/frunk now it is that still like the other models ? Tesla is the only brand I have ever seen that doesnt seal the seams before painting them. Tesla just fold the metal. Collects dirt like crazy and we already see corrosion on some cars in these areas.
I love the Cybertruck shift on screen …I prefer it to a stick of the wheel. I also prefer the turn signals on the wheel. After you get used to it, it’s second nature.
In my opinion the power folding second row is an unnecessary complexity that will probably fail. It's easy enough to fold down the seats manually and no one ever complained. I think a digital rear view mirror would've been a better more useful addition
33:00 with regards to indicator stalk..... Driving in the US, I would completely agree with you. But almost any other country I drive in (Australia, New Zealand, UK, Europe....) absolutely must have an indicator for one single reason..... roundabouts. Maybe an exception would be Japan where in our local area there aren't any. But in the 5 minute trip in our local area in Sydney, there are 12 roundabouts. Roundabouts require three different indications by law. First indication is most common and is for either a left or right turn (none for straight). This isn't a big deal and does not need a stalk because steering wheel is always straight. Left indication is required on exit and indication is required if changing lanes while in roundabout. These last two require a stalk because it's almost always the case that this is occurring while wheel is NOT straight and level. Actually it's almost always mid turn and this means that for example, Tesla 3 Highland drivers in roundabout countries find it almost impossible to follow the rules in these situations because they cannot maintain a hand grip in the position required to press the indicator button. It's dangerous. In a countries which decide that cannot justify the extra cost of a roundabout to replace a 4 way stop sign, indication almost always takes place when the steering wheel is level :) There are very few markets that choose 4 way stops signs over roundabouts these days. The US is one of those regions (and completely aside from this.... once you've driven in a roundabout country, it makes so much sense..... going back to 4 way stop signs is madness)
I remember owning some early 70's cars that had about an inch gap near the hinge between the fenders & the hood when the hood was closed. These OSD guys would change their name to OCD if they ever got a look at any classic that hadn't been purposely tweaked by a body shop.
