It's ridiculous to me that legislation is needed to protect property owners from squatting, which is essentially an aggressive form of trespassing.

A friend of mine had a friend move into a cottage on his property. He called the sheriff. A deputy came out and arrested the guy for trespassing. This was in California. BTW, it is a crime in California. The owner will likely have to file the trespassing charges but that takes an hour or so. When the deputy asks if you want to press charges you say YES.

Why can tenants who don't pay their rent be evicted, but squatters can't be removed? I don't understand why the same laws don't apply in both situations.

The new Georgia law changes that. House Bill 1017, which passed with bipartisan support in the Georgia House and Senate, makes squatting punishable by criminal misdemeanor trespass charges and fines for back rent. The law also allows people to be evicted within three days of receiving notice from a law enforcement officer

    Good morning Clark!
No one are addressing how homeowners can protect their title to their homes.
Anyone can use a fault ID and get a notary as part of the scam to take ownership of the homes as a financial fraud!
Especially now that there is so much scams now.
I’ve reached out to various titles companies and mortgages and UA-camr’s and know one has had a solution or pursue this hoop hole!!!
Any suggestions or recommendations homeowners and/or ways we can protect the elderly being target!!!!

@@jirehguy Obscure story? Yeah right. Around 1,200 homes in metro Atlanta alone recently have had squatters, people occupying a property illegally without a landlord-tenant relationship, per the National Rental Home Council trade group. There are people actually instructing others online had to be a squatter in someone else's home and live rent-free along with subletting rooms in the same property to others for pocket money. Luckily the governor in Georgia just signed a new law against squatters.
