  • The 2024 Peugeot 9X8 was the first car out on track in FP3 at Imola. The perfect opportunity to have a closer look at the updated machinery for the french manufacturer.

    I’m gonna miss the 9X8 being rear-wingless. Such a very unique look. But imma wish them the best of luck with it being rear-winged!

    Cold tyres is a real struggle 😅 Peugeot looks fantastic but the painting livery is a bit disapointing tho compare to last year (imo)

      They have the heaviest and second less powerful car on the hypercar grid right now. It's the car's first official race so there was no way to compare it to the other cars for BOP

      Its still effectively a new car. No testing at Imola like most the other hypers. Just gotta give them a race or 2 and they'll be right at the pointy end.

    UGLY rear wing regression, they should have spent more time focusing on the previous design, even adding 3 rear elements per side (like an F1 car has on fronts) would give you ALL the down force of a full flat rear wing with the potential for better aero and less drag, the concept is good, the issue was with execution and further testing needed. Sad to see them give up after 1 try.
    There are better ways to generate downforce now-a-days than just sticking a big inverted wing on the back, look to F1 to see how they are shaping their diffusers, sidebody, aero shaping, every element works to energize the other bodywork(s) which improves many different areas of the car at different speeds, and a significant part of the down force is now coming from UNDER the car instead of just above it.

      The problem that the Peugeot had was that the aero was WAY too inconsistent simply as a result of being under the car. It’s far harder to dial in than a rear wing. F1 is different because all cars have the same solution. The only difference between the cars is how that solution is executed. Oh, and let’s not forget that the F1 cars STILL HAVE REAR WINGS!!! It’s not like F1 cars ditched the rear wing in favor of the underfloor. And as for energizing other parts of the body, do you really think Peugeot didn’t try that? It’s a little harder to do on a hypercar because of the design. It’s not like a goddamn F1 car where every part of the car is purpose-built for aerodynamic purposes and aerodynamic purposes only. There are stylistic elements on the hypercar as well. And one more thing: if you’d stopped to pay attention, it wasn’t just the lack of a rear wing that made the car slow. It was the whole damn car. Almost everything on that car was changed. The wing just happened to be one of those changes. I know you liked the uniqueness of the lack of a rear wing, but that concept was tried for a whole season, and it just wasn’t working, so they scrapped it. That’s how Motorsport works; they’re all trying to fight the same laws of physics. Deal with it. And more importantly, don’t act like you know better than the engineers themselves

      9X8の根本的な問題点はウイングレスコンセプトが長所と裏腹に抱える短所には無く、車両設計においてもっとプリミティブな点、即ち動的なサスペンションジオメトリに拙さがあったように思います。
      9X8の特に低速コーナーでのトラクション不足は、勿論リヤウイングの設置によってそれなりに改善することが見込まれるものの、本質的に改善すべき(と私が考えている)サスペンションの問題に正対することを避ける判断のようにも思われます。
      そのために彼らがボディワークの後ろ側2/3を大幅に作り直す必要があったことを思うと、ウイングレスコンセプトを今の段階で捨てることが長期的に正しかったかどうか、極めて疑わしいと考えています。
      コンセプトを転換するとしても、まずサスペンションや付随するシャシーの熟成と知見の蓄積を優先すべきだったのではないか。
      ウイングレスコンセプトは、有り体に言って、WECプロジェクトを統括する責任者やプジョー自身が自らの仕事ぶりが完璧ではなかったことを認めないための、あるいはその答えが出るまでの時間を先延ばしするための、手軽なスケープゴートとして生贄とされたと、僕は解釈しています。

      ​@mrsoisauce9017 one thing u forgot to remind the oc chappy of in this paragraph was the change in tyre size from 32's all around to 29's front & 34's rear also affected how the under body aero would've worked aswell
