Port Klang has just moved up to place 10th globally as a container port. A huge leap from 15th and below earlier. So, the only way for Port Klang is going up further in the global port position after this.
A 665km rail link connecting port cities? Sounds like Malaysia is laying the tracks for something big! 🚆🇲🇾 Improved connectivity can spark new business opportunities-not just in Malaysia, but across the region. For Singapore, this could mean stronger trade links, more cross-border collaboration, and a boost for local businesses that rely on efficient logistics. 🇸🇬 What industries do you think will benefit the most? And how can Singaporean SMEs tap into this wave of opportunity? Let’s discuss and back local businesses that can grow with this transformation! 💡✨
I believe Perodua are taking advantage of the ECRL link towards East Coast as their way to distribute their car to East Coast without any hassle to use the trailer which are much longer time plus much safer way to transport their goods.

Its not only on port isues but also another transport alternatives for East Citizen....which now becoming more constraint especially during festive & holiday seasons.....
The lay-back position of Port Klang can be attributed to the failure of both the State Government and MOT. Notwithstanding the previous aim to link the ECRL directly to the West Port which handles over 70% of the Port Klang throughput. Hence congestions are almost guaranteed whenever a vehicle breakdown along the roads to West Port or road connecting the 2 terminals. Of course, Port Klang is also the "ugliest" top terminal among the top 50 ports worldwide. Moving the interchange to Serendah is almost idiotic by design. This requires the rail link to Port Klang to pass through North Port, hence any movement to West Port will certainly cause congestion to the road connecting it to Port Klang town. How would Kuantan compete with Port Klang? To where? Port Klang being a transshipment port automatically has the advantage of freight rates because of competition amongst all the top 10 container shipping operators.
ECRL Port Klang-Port Kuantan is alternative rail land bridge to Thailand’s Chumphon-Ranong Land Bridge. China is sharing profit with Malaysia on freight fee. So most probably China will utilize the rail.
There are dozens Chinese companies already buying lands in Gebeng, Kuantan to take advantage of the ECRL. Recently 2 Kuantan based logistic companies had just been listed in the ACE Market. Something that is unheard before
