I use my DT-770 headphones for everything. I've got some software to flatten out the frequency response especially since they have a nasty large peak at around 6400hz. But I really love them, still. Easy to get replacement parts and they're pretty affordable. And yes, it's very important to reference your mix on multiple systems!
I too decided for the Beyerdynamic, but model 880. They are pretty flat and analytical compared to the 770 or 990. I compared all the models and bass and treble were simply too much for mixing, in my opinion. The hi-mids even hurtful in some occasions. 😳 I'm happy with my 880s now. 😉
