Great video.. just so you know, that tree is a cedar tree growing off an old tree that fell or died. We call that a nurse/nursing tree. The roots of the tree that grows off all the nutrients from the decaying log/stump/tree are left exposed as they make their way to the ground.when the stump eventually decays completely away the new tree looks very different as it looks supported by 'air' The Island is covered in these trees.

Thanks. It's so awesome up there. We don't have those in Colorado, but they are very cool to see.

Nice one! I was surprised how busy the parking lot was! But it looked like the beach was fairly empty (?)

It was really busy that day. We had to wait for some cars to leave so we could park. It's a big beach, so it didn't seem too crowded, but there were people around.

Wow, I liked your video. Hoping UA-cam will recommend more of your stuff. I made the long trip to Side Bay from Langley a couple of years and now I want to visit this place. Bravo!

it was early days on van.isl. and Fort Victoria had been built by the Hudson's Bay Co. who had been given "rights" on the island by the crown who wanted HBC to help get settlers to come ...A family arrived from overseas having been promised land if they came...Governor Douglas was there and told them where they could settle...but it was on the extreme northern end of the island Cape Scott/ San Josef Bay...undeterred the family set off and made it to their new homestead San Josef Bay...it is an incredible tale of surviving the terrain and climate and wildlife to establish their home...l read it in a volume on the history of the island...
l can tell you the trek north on foot on trails if there were any with all their supplies etc must have been an epic struggle...but they were tough and they did it...HBC eventually lost their crown right to the island for failing to allow settlement except their employee's and buddies....

Mathew MACFIE F.R.G.S. published in 1865 l cannot be sure the story is in this volume... it is possible it is not it was many years ago that l last read it...but the story is true...they were the first non natives to settle San Josef Bay...
