I'm from Montana as well. I lived on Hilton Head Island for 3 years. I have never felt more at home than the time I lived in South Carolina. Looking forward to getting back there again!
I'm from Charleston my family and I relocated to Ga when Hugo hit i was 5. I also spent time in McClanville growing up, I'm ready to move back home but maybe Monks Corner or Mt. Plesant
Same. I’m also a fellow Pennsylvanian. They will always have a special place in my heart. However, after seeing how fresh and healthy southern food is…even the liquor is better….I’m willing to take a leap of faith.
We considered moving here, but after visiting, esp the downtown men’s stores and restaurants, we found the people really snobby and rude particularly toward the tourists. I even felt on a few occasions that we were being made fun of. With limited roadways because of so much water around, traffic is a nightmare too. Myrtle Beach was too trashy. Hilton Head was too touristy and obnoxiously nouveaux riche. We go to Pensacola, FL now and are perfectly happy. It is middle-middle class.
Pensacola is absolute garbage. I was there while attending Naval Aviation Technical Training Center near NAS Pensacola. Charleston is amazing and is the marriage capital of the US. Would absolutely hate being surrounded by a bunch of transient squids and spring breakers.
I was in the military so was exempted from that but since I owned a house, there was the property taxes on that. South Carolina is a regressive tax state and everything is taxed to the max.
Yes, we pay property taxes on vehicles. It sucks, I know, because the roads are a mess, even though we also pay road mainteance fee every year, as well.
Mark, Where are you from in Montana, Bozeman here. We are looking to potentially move to the greater Charleston area in the next year. The Gallatin valley is out of control and our kids are leaving because they can't afford it. What would be a good area to start looking for a home that has a bit of a yard with it? Or is buying some property and building an option?
Hey Rob, I am from Missoula, but I also lived in Bozeman for a year. I hear there is some major flooding going on in Montana right now. Can you give me a call/text/or email me, so I can get a better idea of what you're looking for? Yes, buying land and building is definately an option. 843-769-1836 markgarrisonrealestate@gmail.com
Lived downtown Charleston 1993 - 2005. Could not recommend living in Charleston. Downtown is just a tiny part while the rest is typical souther state. Lots of tacky strip malls, and other stuff. Not great homes and a lot of the area, lots of poverty, trailer parks especially up by the AFB. If one had to, Mt. Pleasant would be the best bet as it is wealthier, newer and better shopping. Nice place to visit however.
Apparently things have changed a lot since you moved! There’s been a massive restoration movement on the peninsula as well as major high-end condos built. Mount P (where I live) is bursting the seams approaching 100k in population! Even the poorer neighborhoods in North Charleston are being improved and built out. It’s very rare to see trailer parks any more. They’re here but definitely not prominent. As a MT transplant myself I think Charleston may be worth looking at again!
@@johnepavek I would never live in Charleston again. While it has improved greatly in the 17 years that I moved away, it is far, far too MAGA, too Bible Belt and just too small. I lived in a nice little historic single house and loved it except for tourists sometimes peeking in the ground floor windows. The minute I retired from the Air Force, I packed and moved to the far west and have not looked back.
@@kennixox262 some people don’t mind the idea of being too MAGA. I live in California and there are far too many weirdos with purple hair and pronouns here
@@drewstoica3537 I take it that purple hair and various pronouns triggers you. Why? Perhaps Orange County or better yet, Kern County might be the part of California that is a better fit for you. If California is not for you, try Mississippi very MAGA but you won't see the people too much as they are under their white sheets. What size MAGA hat do you wear? I always thought that you "tough masculine manly men", 2nd Amendment types would not melt like a snowflake at things like purple hair, drag queens, leather queens and the like. Thsnks for the video. I'm about to retire from the air force and considering charleston as a home

Welcome back! There are not many Montanans down here :)
Nice to see and hear what's life looks like in this part of US. Thanks for video. Best wishes from Serbia/Europe.
Thanks Arhiva!
I love candid shots of inside the Market! I’m a vendor and I live trying to see who was working that day😂.
You hit it on the head, you couldn’t have been more accurate😀💯‼️
Thanks! I appreciate that!
I dream of moving there and owning an old house there one day. Great video :)
Thanks Freddy!
I saw my boat on Shem creek in the first clip!
Thank you very much for showing this video I appreciate you
Thank you!
Yes South Carolina has a property tax and it varies depending on the age of your car.Theres even tax on motor cycles, boats and airplanes.

I'd love to visit. Would love there, but my entire favorite is here in PA, I couldn't bring myself to move.

I've read that SC has property taxes on vehicles. How much is it and is there a cap on it?

How’s the surfing in area? Video didn’t show much waves, but I heard there are moments other than when swells come in from a hurricane.
I don't surf, but I know Folly Beach is a popular area for surfing
As a Floridian who is a wildlife enthusiast, the presence of alligators should definitely be in the "pros" section

damn moved here from Montana? july-september must be a nightmare for you lol
Yeah, I still struggle during the Summer :)
😊😊
Hey mark I’m also from Montana thinking of moving up there soon. Where in MT are you from?
Hey! I grew up in Polson, but lived in Missoula for the last 13 years or so. Let me know if you have any questions about this area!
I live in FLORIDA, so can't be hotter then here.
No, Florida is hotter, and that's one reason I prefer South Carolina over Florida

The only things I couldn’t tolerate would be the bugs, snakes and alligators
He didn't mention the Gecko (small lizards). They're cute, but once they get in your house you can't find them.
You have freaking gators in your waters, why on earth would anyone play in water with living dinosaures?
People don't swim in the neighborhood ponds.
Clearly you’ve never been to Florida
