For all yall fleeing blue states and looking at Columbia, I recommend its neighbor Lexington, Its Columbias Red brother and its alot more underregulated. The local offices are full of conservative/Populists so you can feel safe with religion and traditionalism. Not many blue hairs going full karen 24/7. Lexington county is trying hard to keep its based identity. PLUS, It has Lake Murray and for a smaller city, It has alot going on. Only downside is its got alot of traffic around the lake. But if you can find a spot a bit further from the lake on the south/rural side of Lexington you should have no issue getting around.

South Carolina is a great place to live .

The upstate to the midlands does have seasons. Lower than Columbia it stay moderate to hot. I am a lifelong resident Grew up in Spartanburg and moved to Columbia to finish my degree, and still here! LOL!!

you did not mention Hilton Head, or Bluffton, or go into details about Beaufort and Port Royal

Im from Florence SC and now live in Charleston. I don't think its all that hot for me. BTW if you want the heat move to Texas LOL

I grew up in Spartanburg, SC not far from Greenville, about 3.5 hrs to Charleston. Dirty Myrtle, it used to be a great place. A lot of these places are really nice, just not this one. I've lived here for the better part of my life and I was born in 1963, you do the math, all but 10 years. I moved to Washington state and would come home 3 times a year and most of the time would always visit Charleston.

I live on a barrier island on the east coast of Florida. I do not evacuate during hurricanes. i have a whole house generator, hurricane shutters and a concrete block house. Mandatory evacuations are a free for all for looters

We have 4 seasons in SC: Almost summer, summer, still summer and Christmas.

The mountains are beautiful, in the summer,but in the winter it is higher and colder. Also the mountain area is more rural and redneck .

Does anyone know of very small towns located in South Carolina? Im looking for a population of 2-3k. I love very small towns and not big populated cities. Im coming from a very liberal state and am looking to escape🙁 I prefer being close to the beach but love the country and miss the small town feel I once had.

My Mom moved to Spartanburg, and I honestly thought about moving there as well. But researching the salaries (no minimum wage and being a Right-to-Work state the pay scale is ridiculously low), I found that I would literally make less than half of what I make working and living in a rural New York State: $48,000 vs $93,000. I don't care how low the property taxes are (I pay less than $1000 for property and school taxes each year here in NY), I just can't afford that kind of hit!

Moved to SC from Montana in May 2020. Great place! Rented in Bluffton and built in Hardeeville.

I lived in South Carolina for 20 years. The tornadoes that we had were mild compared to the ones out west. Also the thing I don't like about Charleston is all the mosquitoes and the humidity. But I lived inland and it was fine, not as human as the coast

Grew up in Spartanburg but live in Seattle. Would be a lot cheaper to go back to SC but I have never wanted to go back. Matter of fact could not wait to get out. Now I cannot handle the summers east of the Rockies. The only good thing about Spartanburg is it is about 60 miles from Asheville, NC, a really nice city and Beautiful. Greenville is nice, 100% better than Spartanburg for any reason you can think of. When I spent some time down there around 2004 when my mom passed away I preferred going to Greenville than Charlotte even though Charlotte is a much larger city. I'm surprised the list did not include Georgetown and Beaufort. Lot of history in Georgetown , some very nice looking old neighborhoods and it is on the coast. Beaufort is a gorgeous place on the river near the ocean, not far from Savannah, GA.(Go there!) Beaufort has many Beaufort mansions that were built prior to the Civil War. Beaufort was not destroyed during the war. If you like streets covered with big oak trees with Spanish Moss hanging down, this area is wonderful. If you have read some Pat Conroy then you have an idea what this area is like. Highly recommend the Prince of Tides.

As my cousin once said, "Welcome to South Carolina where we get all of the four seasons - sometimes in the same day!" I'm from Anderson (originally from Pickens) where we don't have to worry about alligators or cotton mouths. For the most part we usually don't have to worry about hurricanes...although my mom did say that Hugo spawned a lot of tornadoes in the Charlotte area back in '89. Another pro about The Upstate is that we're not that far from ATL or CLT. In fact, it's only a 29 minutes flight to ATL, and as fast as 16 minutes to CLT from GSP.
