That's why it's always good to have those contractors sign contracts to these bids. My Mom and Dad always have had contracts available when doing business with anyone.

First, get at least three estimates. Second, do your research on materials and the cost. I had a contractor quote me $2,600 to 'build' a concrete slab for a garage. I did it myself for less than $1,000. Third, NEVER pay upfront:1/2 in the beginning 1/2 when done. Fourth, get off your butt and do the work yourself, if you can. Finally, because you're a woman, they'll assume you're dumb and TRY to take advantage of you. I had an electrician try to charge me $700 to install 2 ceiling fans. I did them myself for free, in the end.

The division of labor according to sex has most people handicapped in some area of their domestic life and that's why they end up living with/marrying someone to perform those duties or have pay to have them done. I'm sort of a unicorn woman, I can do most things in and around a house😉

It's helps a lot having family members work in construction and have a diploma in construction.
You don't need a diploma in construction. You've got the Internet to research your problem or project. At least you'll go into it with an idea of the material, time and expense, so no contractor can soak you. You may also decide you've got the ability needed to do it yourself

This is worth a news story because they didn't do their research on a contractor and they should've did proper contractual paperwork to sue him. I'm just saying. I do hope this works out and they get their money back.
