  • This time we look at one of the very best noise gates you can get - the Lichtlärm Key & The Gate. The great thing is the key input, so your the noise gate gets triggered by the direct guitar signal and works faster and more organically vs just having a noise gate after all the distortion.

    I keep coming back to this vid when I disconnect my pedalboard and realise that I've got early onset dementia when it comes to wiring.
    This really helped me diagnose a failing valve amp today. Hooked up via 4 cable to another amp and things were rocking again. The gate is sharper than a fresh scalpel.
    Thanks again man.

      Played out with my band for our first gig last night.... Had practice Thursday night and everything was fine... Amp and pedal settings were all the same, but during soundcheck my rig sounded like there was little gain and almost like my gate was immediately cutting my notes off.... So now I'm wondering if like you, maybe one of my tubes is about to crap out.

    Excellent demo and very thorough, thanks! I wonder if you have compared this to the Zuul?

    • @PeterGeltat
      @PeterGeltat  4 роки тому

      I borrowed the Zuul a few month ago, but I sadly didn't have both at the same time. From memory I would say, that they are both really awesome and the Zuul might cut a tiny tiny bit harder, but I'm not really sure. Can't go wrong with either. The K&G doesn't need an extra splitter, which is nice. The Zuul Mini is a bit smaller. Both have cool designs.

      The Key and the Gate wins. This is #1 Jordan’s Phalanx is right there also. Awesome.

    I have the key input and output on the sides and the gate on the top, that is the other way around than the pedal/version showed on this movie right? I got also a horrific whistle when using the 4-C method but using the other inputs as mine is labeled the other way around

    • @PeterGeltat
      @PeterGeltat  6 місяців тому

      Sry for the late reply. You have the newer version in gold, right? Then yes, I'd say you need to connect like it's labeled, so other way around.I assume you already tried switching cables and using it just in front and/ or the FX loop with 2 Cable method. A thought would b the power supply. Maybe try different ones. Otherwise maybe contact Lichtlaerm. Hope you'll figure it out!

    i love my key and the gate , can't seem to find lichtlarm audio anymore, i think he partner'd up with another company
    . i hope the one i have holds up. a gem for sure. i find it a little weird , but its awesome at the same time . does the job and is very transparent ,(clean and metal) why i find it weird is , when it comes to overdrives after the gate, it alone is fine, but with drives with a gate built in. not so good, only because of the crappy built in noise gates of the pedals, i have a precision drive with a built in gate also a savage drive v5 (with no gate), the gate from the precision drive still wants to do its thing, even though the key and the gate already has it covered, just because i have it before not after the drive i guess. the savage without the built in noise gate is just fine no side effects , i guess is the best way to describe that. anyways love my pedal and will hold on to it until i die or it does. thanks for the video, there was no manual given to me and i was honestly clueless when it arrived. and i still haven't found an english manual , but no need thanks to you'r video.

      Yes, Lichtlaerm partnered with KMA Audio Machines. Glad I could help with the setup. Cheers

    Really really nice video!
    This pedal will help my signal chain and is cheaper than the ZUUL!
    I have your used FGN Dark Evolution 7 String. A really nice guitar ... without the Blackouts ;)
    Thx that you didnt want to hold it!

    • @PeterGeltat
      @PeterGeltat  3 роки тому

      Cool, glad you like the FGN. It's a very nice guitar, congrats! What pickups did you put in? I was quite tempted to switch them, too because I prefer passive pickups, but they actually worked quite well in the context of the goth rock / metal band I used it mostly for.

      @@PeterGeltat I put Fishman Fluence Modern in neck and bridge. The Bridge is also changed to one from ABM.
      The Blackouts are heavy sounding, my second choice. But the fluence are like a sword from japan ... hard, sharp and very transparent.
      I am far away from passiv pickups because there are too much of them.
      I have seen that the guitar is well played. A good sign for the instrument. I have had an Gibson Explorer 7 String with the same measure. FGN makes so much more right. And after all i have played the one or other Dark Evolution, at last yours and changed from Gibson Ex to the FGN.

    • @PeterGeltat
      @PeterGeltat  3 роки тому +1

      @@deadboz6007 Was it easy to replace the blackouts with fluence? Yes FGNs are great quality instruments! :)

    • @deadboz6007
      @deadboz6007 3 роки тому

      You can just change the Blackouts with the Fluence. It is also the soderless system. But if you want to use the voices (split coil and High Filter) it is a bit work ... for an guitar tech at my point. At cheaper guitars i would try it, not at my beauties.
      I think i have had about three Dark Evolution 7 Strings in the hand (No1 Guitars sold them ...) and i would buy all three. They look fantastic and the haptic is faboulus!

      Today arrived this pedal at my board ... it is great. I need to get used to it because it is silent as it is filled with basotect (chain: guitar - gate - naga viper - kraken V4 - gate - pedal baby - isocab). Just perfect!

    when you switch channels on the amp , dirty to clean, does it ruin your clean sound?

    • @PeterGeltat
      @PeterGeltat  4 роки тому +1

      No, it's quite non-invasive (when you use the key input and have it connected with all connections properly). Only when you play super low volume and very delicate it'll cut off the tone depending on your threshold setting. But for normal switching it works very well and I don't feel the need to switch it off.
