This is the best demonstration of how to bak a vetkoek. My first success after multiple other tries. Thank you so much. The vetkoek taste awesome and everybody loved it.🎉
Literally just followed this recipe and my goodness! I’m soooooo impressed with the results! Light…fluffy…delicious! Baie, baie dankie! 💚💛❤️ South African in the UK 🇿🇦🇬🇧
Trying this recipe today! I have visited SA 3 times and I’m absolutely in love with Vetkoek and so many of the traditional meals! I love the curry mince version 🤤 My SA man was very excited to see me whipping this up from scratch in the kitchen! Hope it turns out 🤞🏻 (We are in Canada! 🇨🇦)
Thanks Jeremy! My kids went into shock when they discovered this vetkoek... and as a good mum I translated the delicacy to my British boys in English. They couldn’t stop laughing, meaning this vetkoek went down a treat with the boys and hubby 😆
This was the only video where the thumbnail loooked like what I want. I haven't even made them yet but your way of making them, your tips and just the manner you have gives me so much confidence! It's like asking an uncle or aunt for cooking and being in the kitchen with them. Love this whole video, thank you
Jeremy, you are South Africa's best kept secret. How are you not a famous South African personality yet? I followed your instructions to the T (except for the spray-and-cook as I didn't have any) and I'm telling you, they turned out PHENOMENAL!!! (And no dirty oil, either) My first ever SUCCESSFUL batch of vetkoek (I didn't know the dough had to be soft and sticky). Thanks for sharing your wisdom. We are going to have lekker curry bunnies tonight 😋😋😋😋
during this covid -19 I'm learning how to make things at home find it much cheaper to make things at home now so yeah vetkoek is on the menu now. Budget!!!!!!
Coming back a second time because the first time came out perfectly! I ended up with so much but it was up the next day 😂Will always be my go-to vetkoek recipe. Thank you so much 🙏
Oh my word those vetkoeok looked perfectly cooked whe he cut them. Loved the little holes in them reminds of my mum because that's how they were cooked. And the apricot jam and cheese... 👋My absolute best. A lovely video and thank you for sharing. 🎉👌✔️🦋
Thank you for sharing your recipe, it's a nice rainy afternoon in the Bahamas and what can be better than some vetkoek and mince for the family. I usually take the store bought already made dough in a tin that's intended for pizza and fry that up it looks like a vetkoek but it tastes different. So happy to finally have a fantastic vetkoek recipe.
Remember that during basics at tdk in 1983 used to get vetkoek burgers from a take away in Valhalla , big enough to last two days or feed two people . Wil defo try this recipe , thank you
Used to go Awol to the take away in Valhalla to buy the Vetkoek the Guards used to turn a blind eye as we jumped the fence and came back with our spoils TDK 1979
Mine were the medics , friendly with a couple of them and would take the ambulance and go and get them , wish we had mobiles then but the look on the faces as you would order 40 or 50 vetkoeks was hilarious . Often wonder if it is still there .@@katoosh1
Thanx for this very nice way to make exact vetkoekke with nuttywheat flour. My hubby say's it is the best I ever made!! So glad I found your channel!!!
The fact that you honestly tell us 4 to 6 cups with the yeast, I praise that thank you because I'm. Here wondering as we are a family of 6 tonight and not just 4 lol
Hi Jeremy, love this video. So well presented and easy to follow. Thanks so much for sharing. Just made a batch for the second time and once again, HUGE SUCCESS. My son took some home to introduce his English girlfriend to them and she is hooked. So he now has the vid link and will hopefully be making his own soon.
The BEST, the EASIEST, the TASTIEST, the QUICKEST, The TASTIEST, FLUFFIEST, FASTEST...even a non-cook like me becomes a Vetkoek HERO with this method! When I turn this into commercial, off-shore succes, I'll send you royalties, say 5% of turn-over? WOW, wow, wow, SA ex-pat, remembering how much harder my Grandma had to work to even get close to this result.
Good Day Mate,I am an ex South African now living in Australia, found your recipe last night wife made some the next day and they turned out to be perfect.Well done-100%Cheers.
I really enjoyed your informative video Jeremy thank you for sharing your make the whole task so doable 👏👌🏴🇿🇦 ps look forward to the rest of your portfolio 🔔🔔🔔
Dear Jeremy, out of all the vetkoek videos I've watched, I love yours the best! Than you. Now Jeremy, is there a way to make it so light that it has lots of empty space inside so that I can make a hole in it and add Atchar, like the Coffee Carts and African Eating Houses used to make? Thank you - you make me long to go back home xxx.
My brother in law makes his vetkoek white with a brown tinge. Its very doughy on the inside and its not what I'm used to. My grandma used to make them golden brown similar to yours and it was still soft on the inside. Everyone in the house thinks I'm weird when I make it golden brown. They complain it tastes different 🤣🤣🤣anyway thank you very much for the video, I make mine the same way. Will check out the rest of your channel
You cannot use self-raising flower. The vetkoek uses yeast as a raising agent. The 2 will clash. It's the yeast that helps with the bread texture you want.
Hi Jeremy, they look so yummy and fluffy and I'm going to make them today. I need to make 50, for the next day and you mentioned that they can be frozen and reheated in the microwave. I was wondering if it's possible I can heat them up in the oven, as the venue I'm taking these to, do not have a microwave. Thank you so much, I love all your food videos which are so easy to follow, and the great tips you give. Thank you!
Good morning Carole I have never put them in the oven before. My thoughts though are that if you put the oven on low heat, around 100 degrees celcius, and put the defrosted vetkoek in the preheated oven (I would not put them in there frozen), they should warm up to a comfortable to eat state in 10 to 15 mins. I would not leave them in there any longer, for fear of getting hard spots. I might cover them with foil too, just to prevent hardening or drying out.
@@jeremyquickfall Hi Jeremy, thank you so much for letting me know. I wonder, If I fried them the night before the day of the event, and not freeze them, will they still be nice and fluffy. I have a hot banquet box that keeps food hot, the ones they use in the hospitality and Age care industry, which I will have a practice today, and see if that works. I will let you know the out come.
