The cool thing about how Odin enters the house, I think, is how, partly, he's already playing up the kindly old grandfather routine ("Little chilly out here, isn't it, sonny? Y'wouldn't mind letting a tired, travel-worn old man, warm his aching bones, would you? (...) Oh! A chair for me? And I see you've set out a couple of pitchers of mead! You shouldn't have!"), while simultaneously, like you said, obnoxiously crashing into Kratos and Atreus' house, like he owns the place (which, in his opinion, he does, or he will, in time, anyway). LOL, speaking of grandfathers, thought, I always thought Richard Schiff/Odin had quite a notable resemblance to my great-grandad Lennie (we're both from West Yorkshire, but he was actually at least half Norwegian (or some other type of Scandinavian), half German). Apart from the eyes being a little different, he was also thinning. It got me thinking though, imagine being able to say that your grandad was actually Odin. That'd be ace... Well, until, based off how much of a tosspot he is in GOW (and, to some degree, the myths), you realise how awful a person he actually is.
Even though the final battle and visual design were a bit underwhelming (comparing with Baldur and Zeus, that is) I LOVED his characterization as a nerdy, despicable a-hole mob boss.
@@cidiosethat’s the beauty of it though. He doesn’t need to be physically strong because he’s manipulated others into doing it for him, so he’s honed his powers magically. So he may look underwhelming, but he’s just as deadly.
Really love the direction they took with Odin. Instead of making him a textbook big strong bad guy like they did with Zeus they instead made him a master manipulator who rarely has to use physical force to get what he wants. His motivations were also really good making him a man determined to gain knowledge at any cost made him a lot more interesting than just most of the orignal villains who with the exception of Athena all just seemed really cardboard in their motivations
@@HiHi-st3mz it’s pretty heavily implied that he is very physically strong and dextrous, the way he swings his spear around was quite impressive He simply is too concerned with his own business that he needs people to do the literal heavy lifting for him
Same. I liked the fight with him, too. It felt like you were doing battle with the oldest/most powerful wizard/sorcerer in existence. In fact, I think he's supposed to be the inspiration for the stereotypical wizard look.
I love a good leitmotif that permeates through a game. Also Odin is such a great foil for Kratos. An antagonist driven by obsession, much how Kratos was driven by his obsession of revenge in the Greek games.
In a way you can find another parallel between them. Tyr wasn't the only god of war, technically Odin and Thor were, too. You could see Odin as the Norse pantheon's version of Kratos that conquered instead of killed the whole pantheon. Because if Kratos wasn't there, Odin would likely have succeeded, too.
The hand of Odin track gave me unbelievable chills, like the final finale of an entire series over a period of decades has led up to one specific moment, THE moment to confront Odin and meet your doom. It’s almost like the “avengers endgame” of the god of war series, from the very beginning of the game to this moment. I love it so much
Except it's not at all. It's the culmination of 2 games, being 2018 and this one. The original god of war trilogy was effectively it's own build up to endgame except with much more murder and much less cooperation. Starting 3 on Gaia then ending with taking out the king of Olympus, it was very climactic in and of itself. With odin, it's only 1 game of buildup (where it was all just stories of him) then a game of escalating action building to the big daddy all fucker himself. Don't get me wrong, i loved it all but to imply the events of the greek saga has any ties to facing odin at ragnarok, well that's a bit of a stretch
Now what you did to his boys self defense dying is what we Aiser live for yea his mind was gone sure but he had his uses and now he had his uses and now he’s gone because of you you follow me?
Anyway it's nothing new here, you should try yourself Hades theme in GoW3 or Perseus's theme in GoW2 or Brothers of Blood or Madness of the Furies. This is nothing.
Odin was so good at deceit, i was actually starting to really like him, he kinda made me feel bad about the stuff i did against odin. But i realised that it was all a lie, he’s so good he even tricks the player. Despite me knowing what he had done i really liked him. The actor does such a good job.
i loved odin in GOW honestly, hes so charismatic with what he says and the way he talks, every little thing he does seems so genuine and true yet behind it all lies a deception and cunning wickedness that almost makes you believe in the things he says, he himself is not threatening at all (atleast appearance wise), but how deceptive he is is terrifying in a way, like a pure evil presence masked behind niceties, if not for mimir kratos probably wouldve believed odin, or atleast atreus
Spoiler alert for anyone who hasn't beat the game. I know it sounds ridiculous, but I love to imagine that when Odin stared through the rift and saw creation itself, he was actually looking at the very coding of the world, and the face staring back at him was the players behind the TV screen
"infinite knowledge", if it actually exist it would be something like that. Even if Odin successed, he would be curse with knowledge, knowing the fact that they're just tiny matter in the infinite universe, or worst, characters inside a virtual world, would make him even more paranoid of being erased.
@@kylelapointe2289 Achieving CHIM would require Odin to reject reality. Odin didn't really CHIM or Zero-Sum, he just couldn't even begin to comprehend what he saw.
just finished the main story and I love how Odin is portrayed in this game. while I never got a chance to play the Greek saga, I like how Odin is not physically intimidating as Zeus but What makes him scary is his thirst for knowledge and how he manipulates others to do his bidding. It's like a brain vs brawn type of thing that I like. either way I LOVED this game!
Also how Odin actually CRAVES something. He is obsessed. Zeus was obsessed too, but he craved nothing. He was at the peak, literally, peak of Olympus, all he wanted was for things to stay this way and so he treated Kratos as a rabid dog, too mad to be tolerated in his perfect world order. Odin on the other hand? He seems to actually "level" with Kratos. He sees Kratos as a genuine threat and also hates him low key... So that makes Odin that much more "engaged" enemy for Kratos than Zeus. Zeus was reacting (even if massively, with cataclysmic blows) but Odin is acting against Kratos in both subtle and unsubtle ways.
4:28 My favourite bit - shows a sense of being the mastermind behind all the trickery and death going on. Love how relaxing and menacing it is. 5:30 then comes the big reveal - we think Thor was behind all the slaughtering and chaos, when, in reality, it was Odin's commands.
I like Odin but he's not literally all-powerful, the game also depict him perfectly for that. Odin isn't invincible like Zeus, that's why he's unique. He uses his deceits, tricks and even put his family in dangers to confront Kratos and convince Atreus to find the pieces of the Mask. A cunning coward which will sacrifice everything for his obsession of the truth of creation, life, death and everything which lies beyond His Kingdom(Nine Realms). Odin, the All-Father, King of the Aesir and the Wiseman of Lies.
@@HazDev56 I also like how, as Tŷr, Odin tried making all these aspects of himself he rejects as Loki. A trickster, deceiver, and liar. Perfect example is when the Boy was explaining to the others how he freed Garm.
I love that transition at around 3:27. It sounds so beautifully (and forebodingly - if that's even a word) cold, which from a meta/mythological standpoint, suits Odin: He's descended from Primordial Frost Giants (with his grandfather, Buri, being the first fully fledged Æsir), and the place he was born in, Ginnungagap, in terms of real life locale, is supposed to encompass parts of what the Vikings called Vinland/Vindoland (so, at least some remote parts of Canada), and or, somewhere in Siberia. And, in one of the sagas involving Skjöldr (who is actually a bastard son of the All-Father in the classic myths. Imagine if they actually included that relation somehow, later in the series, like if he did some sort of Zeus/Poseidon style bed trick, then organised a situation, where he was pretty much orphaned, but, blah, blah, blah, headcanon...), Odin is supposed to be from Scythia, which is the ancient world term for several areas in the Black Sea: specifically, Ukraine, Moldova, Romania etc.). Yeah, I'm a history and mythology nerd, as you can guess from this comment. That reminds me, speaking of half God illegitimate offspring, according to legend, Heimdall is supposed to be indirectly (but not too indirectly responsible) for the creation of Ancient Norse social classes (I can't remember the specific terms/names). Going by the name Rig, Heimdall travelled through Midgard, probably on a sort of lad's weekend, and one night, he ended up knocking up three women (he needed his downtime, you know), who gave birth to his sons. These three half-brothers became a peasant farmer/slave (a peasant, anyway, I'm certain of that), a warrior, and some type of earl/count.
You know even after everything he done , in the end i felt sorry for him , maybe he really just wanted to know what is the unseen knowldge or what will become of him after death , but maybe that was another lie too , and he just wanted to rule for ever and have infinitie knolwdge. I gusse that's the theme of his character , manipulative
I liked quite a lot the blend between cult leader and mafia boss. Seem very reasonable, always offering dealings. But this man is known for watching with his ravens, always watching and collecting info. This man simply would not allow something to fall out of his reach. No way.
[The Hand of Odin, based on u/hijopute 's variant, attempted to make it more melodic] Sleep of yours is deep, Rangarok arrive. Time for Aesir to Stand and lead us all for war. To send us all for war. Sleep of yours is deep, Rangarok arrive. Time for Aesir to Stand and lead us all for war. To send us all for war. Ragnarok - fear death. Time is drawing near. Let the child to go - His heart had became so strong. His heart now is so strong.
“All I ever wanted was the truth, I just wanted answers!, Everything I lived for!, Everything I killed for! I needed to know what happens next’ Odin in his early years was nothing more than a stubborn young Kratos, both through their will sought answers down different paths, brutal eradication of a pantheon by brutal vengeful hands and the other subjugating a pantheon by their knowledgeable mind
am glad they paid respect to the mythology counterparts of thor and Odin with thor being pure power and Odin being a hungry slave to knowledge with lies and tricks phenomenal game

Yes and no. I upped the tracks' volume by a tiny bit because I feel they're usually mixed super quietly. However, Bear's stuff is mixed in a way to where it's VERY bass heavy, so sometimes the bass can sound super defeaning and drown out the instruments, which sucks because I usually up the volume to make sure that's not the case lmao. @azc0na I'd like to ask you something. Odin's theme, it plays the first five notes, then five different notes come next, and the theme ends with the same five notes at the beginning of the theme combined with more different notes. I've heard it several times; specifically in Ninjago, from the Overture theme, to Master Chen's theme, to Kalmaar's theme, and even the Vermillion's theme. I know there's a name for it; I've been looking for it for a while, but I never seem to find it. I was hoping since you seem to be an expert on music yourself, perhaps you could help me out and tell me what it's called?
The key difference is, though, you'd probably be significantly safer, having Marvel Odin and Thor out for your blood, than the two mad savages from God of War.

"soul themed level"??? Wth is that?
Anyway it's nothing new here, you should try yourself Hades theme in GoW3 or Perseus's theme in GoW2 or Brothers of Blood or Madness of the Furies. This is nothing.
@@wi0.24se "Souls themed" means that it sounds like something from the Dark Souls game series.
@@wi0.24se Cmon man, I love the tracks on the old games but “the hand of odin” alone wipes everything it has to offer
@@wi0.24se Ahh, you're one of the "Kratos got nerfed! If this was GoW3!" fans.
3:41 - 4:15
I Honestly love that part.
Spoiler alert for anyone who hasn't beat the game.
I know it sounds ridiculous, but I love to imagine that when Odin stared through the rift and saw creation itself, he was actually looking at the very coding of the world, and the face staring back at him was the players behind the TV screen
TBH. THE FACT that the characters are already kinda "AWARE" it's possible if odin did really look into it lol.
"infinite knowledge", if it actually exist it would be something like that. Even if Odin successed, he would be curse with knowledge, knowing the fact that they're just tiny matter in the infinite universe, or worst, characters inside a virtual world, would make him even more paranoid of being erased.
Odin achieved Chim.
@@kylelapointe2289 I see, an elder scrolls fellow

He's strong for his appearance, though. Probably where Baldur got it from, mostly.
4:28 My favourite bit - shows a sense of being the mastermind behind all the trickery and death going on. Love how relaxing and menacing it is.
5:30 then comes the big reveal - we think Thor was behind all the slaughtering and chaos, when, in reality, it was Odin's commands.
This really is. Theme befitting an all-powerful force of evil. It’s menacing, scary at times, and it fits this version of Odin so well
I like Odin but he's not literally all-powerful, the game also depict him perfectly for that.
This is just a nice suite, it flows really well and builds up the tension from throughout the story masterfully.
No way.

,,You know who I am?"
“All I ever wanted was the truth, I just wanted answers!, Everything I lived for!, Everything I killed for! I needed to know what happens next’
Odin in his early years was nothing more than a stubborn young Kratos, both through their will sought answers down different paths, brutal eradication of a pantheon by brutal vengeful hands and the other subjugating a pantheon by their knowledgeable mind
am glad they paid respect to the mythology counterparts of thor and Odin with thor being pure power and Odin being a hungry slave to knowledge with lies and tricks

Tremendos Soundtracks
There's some issue with the bass at 1:20, did they genuinely release the OST in that quality or is that YT compression? Other than that beautiful mix, listened to this while studying lmao
But it's a fickle battle, it was especially hard to get it right for the Rings of Power suites and I feel I kind of succeeded with those
Pretty fitting theme for a guy named Dread.
