Ida's Remnants Hit New York: Everything You Need to Know

- Threats of catastrophic flooding rain - a month's worth in a day - along with tornadoes and raging winds grip the tri-state area Wednesday into Thursday as the remnants of Ida slam the region following its devastating landfall in Louisiana as one of the strongest hurricanes ever to directly hit America.
A tornado warning is in effect for Hunterdon County in New Jersey until 7:45 p.m., and for Middlesex, Morris and Somerset counties until 8:15 p.m.
The risk of tornadoes increased for the New York City metro area and central and southern New Jersey, with all five boroughs and Long Island now well within the "more likely" zone. The greatest risk of twisters will likely last through midnight - and New Jersey appears to be most at risk.

And i thought it will be a little rain tonight, but i was wrong. I still have water coming down from the ceiling in one bedroom, and the kitchen, the basement is flooded. The rain still coming down at 10:45pm here in NJ.

A water view is nice, BUT...always live in a home located on higher ground, and before buying real estate be sure to check FEMA's Flood Zone on the property area map.

How did a hurricane travel hundreds of miles across land and retain this kind of force?
It was a powerful ass hurricane. You seen it when it was still in the Gulf right? It was huge and perfectly formed. It is unusual though, to stay this strong all the way through the whole country and mess up Pennsylvania, Jersey, and New York, after already wreaking havoc on the coast.
I am taken by surprise...The was not enough or any warning...not on TV or internet....Its been raining heavily over the past few hrs, and the first major warning came on my smartphone at 9:02pm...

They aren't used to handling things like this in New York, Jersey, and Pennsylvania, anywhere in that part of the country really. Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida get hurricanes all the time. The people down there know how to handle it. Plus, people in the Southeastern most states, the Gulf states, are generally more cunning, resourceful, and self-reliant than people on the East Coast and New England states. They help out their families and neighbors and communicate with one another more too. That way if there's a problem involving like an elderly couple or a family with very young children, the neighbors and their extended family will come to help them out, keep them out of harms way, and possibly rescue them if need be when dangerous situations arise from a bad hurricane like this.
