- Hey Gang, we've spent the past 4 days prepping this house so we could get the best paint job possible! We don't have a ton of money invested in our materials or paint tools, but with a little time and dedication, you can get pro results. We follow 5 key steps in our prep work. Fill Holes, Sand, Caulk, Clean and Cover! Taking an extra amount of time to dial in each process makes the world of a difference. If you've ever walked into a home where focus and detail were put in to the prep and paint, you know how much of a difference it truly makes! We love our X7 and think it's the perfect middle ground for the homeowner or DIYer. Thanks for watching and we'll see ya in the next one!

You have got REALLY Good Kids!
the production quality on this channel has been improving nicely. Great job guys!
Thanks Rich appreciate you bud 👊🏼
So true!! Last night, family here went back and watched some of Paul & Jordan's videos from a couple years ago and WOW! How their production quality has changed but even more impressively how Paul has grown into his role as a UA-cam teacher. I haven't done something like this myself, but it must take some real dedication and work. RichL90 - thanks for saying this and I agree 1000%.
@John Lawson absolutely!
Stud Pack drinking game: Every time I see one of the DIY extension cords I take a sip of my tea.
I've been a professional painter for 27 years. All I can say is very nice detail to your work. Great job hands down! I approve this video!
yep great job guys ,I would sugest a little smaller tip for your trim work less overspray and paint larger tip for doors.
I recommend buying a spring loaded nail set. So easy to use and time saving, plus saves you the cartoonish hammer to the thumb!
You guys are freakin awesome! The way you conduct yourself, the knowledge you pass along, your demeanours, editing, professionalism, etc… all of it. Keep doing what you’re doing and I wish you all the success that comes to you!
Being a painting contractor for 25 years now its good to see the paint videos. Over the years I have "streamlined" my system. I paint alone so speed is key. I can paint a 1300 sq footer in 4 days. I always cover and prime day 1, day 2 caulk and crawfords painters putty in the holes. Spray ceilings and closets with ceiling white. Trim after that. I use a quality, thin spray shield to spray crown against finished ceiling's. Cardboard is to thick. Then i spray cabinets if required. Day 3 i tape all my backbans with 1 inch blue painters tape to protect from wall paint overspray. Tuck all my finished doors inside the closets. Angle the gun towards the floor about a foot below the finished crown shielding with my left hand. Once you spray a foot or two down from the crown you can spray straight on at the walls. Working alone i spray half a wall, grab my backroller and push the paint i sprayed up to a inch under the crown. Same for down the casings, push the sprayed paint as close as possible to the taped backban. Do 2 laps spraying like this. This way you will only have to "cut" a inch under your crown. Then brush a good heavy coat down the side of the frame. Pull that 1 inch blue immediately after you do that and it has no time to seep behind to your finished trim. Razor sharp lines every time. Second coat your line is already there. You will have to scoot around and brush baseboards this way. However it is MUCH faster than cutting and rolling walls and ceiling's. I keep my pressure low and use a fine finish low pressure 312 tip on trim and ceiling "FFLP" 514 tip on ceiling's and closets. You should invest in a greco contractor PC gun. It has a two finger trigger for more control. The trigger pull is very light also. Saves you from aching hands. Worth the money for sure.
Hey Paul, Hey Jordan,, I've become a big fan of your channel and really look forward to your videos. And I'm not the only one judging the the rate at which your viewership has been climbing. The production quality, the narrative, and the interactions between you guys is entertaining and fun. As other fans have mentioned your videos draw the viewers in and make us feel like we're part of the crew. There's a ton of DIY channels on the tube but you two have something special going on down there in Lou's e anna. Just make me pleases as punch to see how all your hard work is paying off. Oh yea,,, Paul,, get the wand man.😊
I wish I had guys that worked for me and took pride in what they did as much as yall 😪
A new meaning to "doing it right the first time". No one would ever caulk the top of door frame or underneath window ledge assuming it would never be noticed. Thanks for doing it the right way awesome to see you guys work.
Just some tips from a painting contractor. I find that 3M hole filler works best for trim. 3M large hole filler w/fiber works well for walls. Drys fast & hard. Sands easy. Very low dust. Also only reveal coat is needed for priming. Just go back and spot spay prep work you do. Saves time & materials. Great video. Keep up the good work. 👍
Paul, go get yourself an extension wand for the sprayer head. It allows you to go vertical, and hit an entire wall top to bottom in one swipe, and keep your arms at a more comfortable level. It lays a better coat for coverage, gets the nozzle closer to the work, but keeps you further away so you don't spray yourself with the backwash! Also, get those safety glasses on when spraying paint! Last thing ya need is primer or paint in your eyeballs!
I use that primer/sealer all the time. it's great stuff.
Also, switch over your caulk to Alex Fast Dry from DAP... way faster to apply, easier to clean up and dries to paint coverage in about 15 minutes!
I second all that! Definitely a 10 inch extension. A 210 or 310 FFLP tip for trim as well. You'll never go back after that. And a 4 foot whip for the end of the hose for better control, those lines are stiff otherwise! And did he say we go home when the sun sets? Yikes. Awesome job guys.
Number 1.. a better sprayer.. those home depot sprayers are just project sprayers not rated for that much painting. The 395 nova pc would be a good fit for your channel and with the pc pro gun you'll be in heaven with the comfort. Number 2.. Alex fast dry shrinks way too much for quality.. Sherwin powerhouse rated 60 year.. both the paint and caulk are latex acrylic so they will dry together meaning if you're spraying you can spray not too long after caulking anyway. I paint multi million dollar homes.. oil base spray or alkyd enamels are best for trim.
And Alex fast dry is a dap product btw lol.
@@jacksparrow3490 305d fast dry or alex fast dry is perfectectly fine for a “not-a-million-dollar home.” And so is his sprayer. He’s a contractor not a painter. There’s a place for every tool.
@@HIS_tube so you're ok with the trim cracking and separating from the wall within a month or two on your projects? Yes the caulking is fine.. if you don't care about the quality.. if he doesn't quite know then I'm informing anyone who wishes to know. I've personally used all of those products and can tell you from experience that 25 yr stuff is really bad.. it cracks within days.
As a homeowner, I've painted my share of bedrooms. Thought I knew what I was doing, but this takes DIY'ing to a whole new level. Never sanded before. Never caulked before. Never sprayed before. But, now I have the knowledge and confidence to take on my living areas, not just the bedrooms. Thanks, Stud Pack! Y'all rock!
Awesome job. Tip: a small section of bicycle inner tube makes a pretty decent universal vacuum adapter.
If you've got stained grade lumber for trim there's a trick that I learned years ago when I worked in Aspen Colorado where people were willing to pay top dollar for top quality work but most painters just buy color putty and get pretty close to the color that they need to match the color of the lumber but what I found is that every nail that is placed in lumber is it a spot where there's a big color differential there could be a very light area and there could be a very dark vein in the lumber and so one piece of trim can have four or five different colors so what I do is I buy three different colors of putty one white one dark and one on the reddish side and I proceed to custom blend the white with the dark and so on and by taking these two colors you can mix exact colors to wear the nail is sitting and you can make a piece of lumber completely disappear or should I say you can make all the nails on a piece of lumber completely disappear for a really nice look but just using wood putty just doesn't give that really perfect look that I like myself
Your attention to detail is awesome!
You guys are Killin' It! Proof!!!... the better prep you do, leaves professional results. This is the first time I've actually enjoyed anything to do with painting a house. That's right. I hate painting but, somehow.... you guys made it bearable. You're lucky I like ya! lol Another great vid, Jordan. Paul.. much respect for how hard you work. It's not easy for us old(er) guys.
Great work guys! Check out the green LP Graco spray tips they require less pressure and have almost no overspray.
Awwww man. My comment got a heart and now it's gone. Damn Fact Checkers. lol
The build show with Matt you guys are going prime time . Best of luck
Man, thorough doesn’t even cover it! You guys are real perfectionists and it shows in your final work!
i JUST WANT TO SAY: You guys made me proud to be an American. Everybody in the country should be made to watch to see how quality and care deliver great and super results. Bravo. Carry on.
This video is a great demonstration that good preparation is everything in painting. Paint alone can't look great, you must go through the steps. Your thoroughness is admirable
Hey Sping Load Nail Set will save you a lot of time and money. I have been using it on every finish job since 2010
Father and son what a beautiful relationship and time spent with those you love dearly...I support that💯👍😊👉❤
AND TEN YEARS LATER… after painting interior, exterior ,and everything you can think of…I now know how to properly use my paint sprayer!! Thanks stud pack!!!
Great Job Gentlemen…..Wish more GCs & subs were this detail oriented, I wouldn’t have to spend my time DIYing (And watching YT videos to see how to do it correctly 🤦♀️) BTW, I used the light concept when I filled in wood grain of oak cabinets 👍 Subscribed!
Excellent technique & detail work. It’s all about the prep!
Beautiful work with focus on excellence. Thanks for your expertise helping us “weekend warriors” to get ‘er done!
Probably an idea for a video you've seen a few times, however I'm going to throw it out there anyway. How about a video with content in regard to "tips and best practices" or finding a quality GC that has the same attention to detail and care that you guys at Stud Pack have?
I'd love to find a TRUSTWORTHY and RELIABLE GC in my area, but have no clue where to start that search. Cheers guys, keep up the great work! Still loving the dynamic and content you all are providing!
Okay, who else wants to see and read the petition? Love the family interactions. It is heartwarming.
Also, I'm wondering how long it will take you to upgrade to a tool/work trailor so that you don't forget tools at other work sites. I'm seeing a unit big enough you can do some of your tool set up in a sheltered place. Due to the amount of rain you get in Louisiana, it would not fit into the frivolous category of purchase.
A very rare breed; contractors and hat are clean, thorough and precise. A pleasure to watch.
I like the boring jobs. I also like the way you keep everything so clean while you are working.
Dude. Your lungs! I cringed when you were spraying without a respirator. Love the channel.
Glad to hear you call it a "reveal" coat! I always thought it was me, wasting a coat -- but really, you can't see it all unless you prime it... great video!
I don't know if it was intentional, but around 5:12 your editing of the power tools is in tune with the music. If deliberate, you not only have great editing skills, but quite the ear! Thanks for another great video!
The frequencies matching was completely unintentional! I did notice it however. We’re a musical family so it didn’t escape me, even thought about pitch shifting the sander to match the song but… these videos need to come out in a timely manner 😅😅
Paul, I don't think that anyone's gonna care about what kind of glasses you wear, intentional or not. All we care about are the skills and experience you provide for us to learn. Can't thank you guys enough.
Love the smell of freshly sprayed trim
I can't tell you guys how much i enjoy your videos! I look forward to them every week. Just so genuine. Very enjoyable to watch. Please keep making great content!
I really enjoy watching your videos. I wish all workers were perfectionist like you. Thank you for demonstrating how a real father should be!
You guys are just downright GOOD. I did endless projects with my Dad (incl 4 ground up homes) and he was the master of all the tricks.... you have the same mastery. Anyone who wants to do any DIY projects needs to just watch you guys. This is a 'how to' manual that also entertaining. Great content as always.
Thanks Steve, appreciate that bud. Dad sounds like a beast 👊🏼
I'll tell you what I like. I like seeing Jordan go from young helper to supervisor. Thumbs up.👍👍👍
I’ve replaced a lot of doors and almost never saw the top of casing caulked. Good attention.
We just did some laminate flooring but I was cruising UA-cam and came across your videos ,Being videographers ourselves you folks do a fine job of production not to mention the helpful tips
I fricking hate painting with a passion. But painting is what brought me to the dance. That’s how I got my foot in the door of the construction/remodeling business. I started painting with a friend of my dads when I was about 18-19. Around the time I was 20-21 I went to work full time for a master woodworker/ remodeler very similar to Paul. The kind of guy that would tell me he didn’t care how long it took me to do something but he wanted it right when I walked away from it. I learned so much from him as I am now learning so much from Paul and the stud pack channel. So I think you guys have motivated me to see if I still got it and I may try my hand at painting my next big remodel myself. I did just buy a brand new magnum x7 about six months ago so what better time than the present. Thanks for the info guys. I’ll probably be cussing you on the next job thinking how did I let the stud pack guys convince me to take up painting again. Lol. Keep up the good work guys. As always great job. Keep setting the bar high and I’m gonna keep trying to keep my jobs up to “Stud Pack Standards”
Awesome comment thanks a ton Ben 👊🏼 Let us know how that paint turns out! Remember, start at a low pressure and increase until feathering goes away 👍🏼
Maybe post a video about your painting journey?
This channel just keeps getting better
You guys are amazing such attention to detail! Wish you could have handled my paint job, the painters that came thru here actually said it wasn't their job to do the prep work, wow. I'm still cleaning up their terrible job. Prep is everything!
The best home improvement channel out there!!
It is so nice to sit here and watch you guys work hard. Especially in the Louisiana Heat and Humidity.
Prep work makes the dream work
You guys are on point! So glad you went with oil-based primer to avoid potential stain bleed-through. It’s surprising how many people attempt to use latex primer/paint over stain-grade stock. Keep up the good work!
There is one latex primer available called Stix that does not let stain/varnish bleed through. It costs more than oil primer so the only benefit to using it is if you're under serious time constraints or you are working in an environment where the smell needs to be at the lowest possible level
Use crawfords painters putty ...get a chunk out press in holes sand with 120 ... paint instantly...no wait to dry ..been doing it for 15 years painted hundreds of houses no prob...it's an orange can
Sand Crawford painters putty as you apply no dust ..very easy..
Phenomenal job gang! People often don’t realize that the key to a great paint job is the prep-they’ll start rolling and cutting without any prep work. Heck, even some of the painters the GC I sub for skip masking, filling, sanding, vacuuming, and even priming-this is the nature of the job market right now. I had to go around with a pencil and graffiti the whole job. Also, on your next job, try out STIX from Ben Moore-this stuff stix to everything-even your skin; you can paint directly over polyurethane finishes, and the best part-it’s a water based acrylic-(I.e. easy cleanup and no fumes) Great job showcasing the necessary steps!
Great video guys... nice to see someone else who uses kraft paper to cover floors, so much better than using plastic. I really look forward to watching your videos. Keep up the great work!
Perfect Paint Job? Gentlemen, your work is a "work of art"💞💞💞
I would use, “big stretch”. Learned my lesson a few times
yous guys do a great job i would trust yous todo my home keep up the great work
Chuck Norris approves of Studpack!😃
Chuck does not approve of a senior case of senioritus lol
Always a perfect mix between entertaining and educational
Watched one of the earlier videos this week and it's amazing how far y'all two have come!
Three days of prep? Looks absolutely amazing
Amazing prep work and attention to detail. Now that's quality 👌
btw I’ve found that flexible pvc pipe adapters work great to fit shop vac hoses to tools
the ones made of rubber with a hose clamp
just make sure you measure because the diameters sometimes are pipe I.D. Sometimes O.D.
WHOA! Mind. Blown. I literally emailed Makita customer service yesterday about how the world connected shop vacs to Sanders before Rockler came along with those rubber boots, because I was still trying to get onto that 7/8" bib.
I really like the energy, ethic, and good taste of the channel! Hope to see you around BR sometime.
You did more priming and caulking then I seen professional painters do outstanding job
Great painting videos, learned a lot
My word this might be my favorite video thus far. Curious what sort of amps that sprayer pulls. I've got a project that could use something with that amount of volume. Also, when the networks come calling to offer you a show, please don't let them change your artistic input and methods. The video editing is already on point and relatable to all of us viewers. And the subtle humor and humility keeps everyone waiting for the next video. You guys are the genuine real deal. Godbless.
I wish I could work with my family like this....I love that I subscribe to you guys. Keep doing your thing 👊
I hate that DAP painters caulk, and I refuse to use a cheap open frame caulking gun, I prefer the yellow Dripless brand yellow one from Sherwin Williams (well, you can get it other places but that's where I got mine)
The glasses look wonderful. This was a great video - I finally know what I need to do to cover these nail holes.
As others have stated, an extension wand works wonders. Great video!
Can't wait for the upload of you using the paint sprayer on the walls. I just recently purchased the same sprayer and I'd like to see how you will tape up that baseboard to protect it from the wall paint.
The best paints, brushes or canvas are all good and well. But only in the hands of an artist will the painting be a masterpiece. Good job guys.
I really enjoy watching your videos, suggestion, and ideas. They are all extremely helpful. In this video, you use a Klein hand light, just a suggestion, have you tried using a LED headlamp? I find them very helpful; I find that LED light is much more revealing than regular lighting, especially when it is at eye level. Keep up the great videos and thank you.
That's right...put them to work. This reminds me of the work I did to renovate our townhouse, except I did it all by myself. Lots of prep work. Spraying took seconds to spray a wall once everything was covered. Lots of running around to get material, too. On top of all that, I have a full time job. It took much longer than I'd expected. A 10" extension for the sprayer made a huge difference and I did not have to reach or stretch to spray the ceiling and made spraying the walls easier too.
Love all the detailing and prepping you guys do!
Great work as always brothers.👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
I love your attention to detail and high quality of workmanship. You explained well the reason for using the oil base primer and after thinking about it you are right. Much better job. I bet cleaning the sprayer took a couple of gallons of thinner, but the outcome of the job sure is worth it. Took quite a while to get all things prepped, but again it looks great. Keep up the great work. Great to see there are contractors that care. I thought about an extension for my sprayer but heard that they have the tendency to drip. Might give it a try.
Excellent! Prep is the key to a quality paint job.
Another awesome Stud Pack video.
Attention to detail is top notch. Question. Will the multiple coats of over spray on the walls cause any uneven wall coats? I'm doing handyman work and the amount of painting people need is unreal. I've been using brush and rollers but I may go purcahse a sprayer
I love this channel! You guys are the best. The glasses are you , kool and the gang love them.
I have to hand it to you Paul you have given your boys a great work ethic. And your work is Quality. It’s awesome to see your channel growing each week. Thanks for sharing and looking forward to seeing what you have coming up
Great job. If only half of the treat people care as much as you do about doing good work, peoples houses would be much better off. Thank you for the inspiration in the drive to do better.
great job guys
What fun you guys are having!! Lol 😆, I remember doing all that work years ago by myself, sometimes would have help, but usually I would have a painting job done in about 2, 2 1/2 days, a lot of work, but afterwards the job would look great !, always looking forward to seeing your videos!
Your videos are so inspiring. Every time I watch one, my wife is inspired to find me a chore. 😂🙄. Prep is the key. Outstanding work and very enjoyable content. Thank you!
You need to buy the spring nailsets they are awesome
Binge on Stud Pack anyday!
Contact adhesive some sandpaper to scrap mdf blocks, takes care of filled nail holes way faster and totally flush.
I have paint rollers older than Daddy Stud Pack. I can't wrap my mind around trying to use a sprayer indoors.
LMAOOOO!!! OMG!!! the sound the mosquito made when Paul grabbed him to take him outside 😆
I love these vids. Look forward to them each week.
I ordered a five pack of 2.75s, last week, and strategically scattered them. Stretchy frame blublockers, $14, on the porch. Had a free pocket nerd sheath.
It took a while but we finally found something that you are exceptional at, fantastic awesome job!!!!
Great video, gotta agree with getting an extension wand. You did a great job Paul!!!
Another fantastic video!! Thx Stud Pack! 🫶🏼
Hey Paul & son. U guyZ did a Gr8 job of making thT old house look like it was just built, thT sprayer did a fantastic job. Paul , Ur GuyZshould B the first 2 , @ thee end of Ur episode, U should of instead of saying “ we will C U next time “ u GuyZ should say “ U will C us next time around “ take care, B Safe !
Killin it as always. Nice work.
Excellent workmanship👌🏻💪🏻 you should be very proud of your two boys they are great workers, with there work ethic and your guidence they will do well.
Thanks for the content I'm really enjoying it and learning some new things👍🏻
Excellent work!😎
now, I want to see you paint the body and keep nice clean lines around the trim.
Ok guys, you set a great example for home owners when you illustrate getting pro level results using HO type tools. As a HO its easy to fall into the trap of thinking you need top of the line equipment to get great results. Going home when the sun sets? You're my kind of guys! Keep up the good work.
Oh wait, that's another guy I follow... ;-)
I see the pure joy in your eyes as you are showing your kids what to do my kids help out sometimes on our journey ba and I thank God for blessing us with that time together it's so joyful great video GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY
Thx Joe 👊
