The Alcoholics Paradox: Should I Get Sober Now or Later? | Roll On Listener Questions
"All bets are off every time you decide to take that substance into your body: there is a good chance that something terrible is going to happen in your life. And that's something you can't control." - Rich Roll
In this clip from episode 668, Adam and I discuss the "alcoholics paradox" and what it looks like to navigate addiction and recovery when you have a future treatment date planned out. Should you get sober now and step into treatment as the most sober person possible? Or should you wait until you can get into treatment?
Thank you for calling in, Nathan.

I worry about getting enough protein as much as I worry about getting enough oxygen. In both cases, as long as you get enough calories, or get enough air, the proportion of protein or oxygen is fine. Yes, in both cases you can create extreme situations where you don't get enough.

Its like comparing a pear to an apple Yes both are quite fibrous but both have different tastes and textures that's incomparable. Beatles are very experimental while still having their old 50s rockabilly flavour in some of their songs. The Beatles even played some rockabilly before working on their own songs. As for the Stones, they are influenced pretty much by the blues. Straight up blues, from Muddy Waters to Chuck Berry to Robert Johnson which shows that they're pretty much an incarnation of the old blues (i know Clapton is also influenced by the blues but he's a different case). As a blues/rock/punk guitarist myself, it feels natural to play Rolling Stones and its very enjoyable but the Beatles songs are much more innovative in a way and it couldn't really be approached with the same way I play stones. At the end of the day, both are good music and stop comparing. Cheerio

There's no question that a whole foods, plant-based diet is superior to the standard American diet however I suspect that the carnivore diet or an animal-based ancestral diet may be even better.

It's all marketing. But that's what you get with free market economics. If you can keep everyone confused about any product then you can make tuns of money. Tell them that they can "optimize " their health and they will crawl to you with their wallets wide open.

Some people are grass eaters. Some are meat eaters. If you spend equally amount of time researching fit people on both ends you won't learn anything. The bottom line is some people choose to eat grass. Others choose to eat meat. You do you.

If you want to live a long life, don't eat a lot of protein. Areas around the world called the blue areas where people have longer life spans only eat on average about 45gms of protein a day and it mostly comes from other sources than meat. 🤙

You are a disgrace and embarrasement in the nutritional and health space.` Multiple times you've been asked to interview or put forward a balanced/opposing view to your own. For years now, you've failed to acknowledge the opposing view but you have failed. America is built on freedom of speech and not once have you allowed the other side to speak. You are weak.

In the context of today when Artificial Intelligence has entered the pervasive domains of life, body mind and there are apps which are diabolical available in the dark Web. manufactured to enter your life and disrupt your very existence..then create great destabilization of the quiet mind into a torrid and horrible negotiation of what's going on .the confusions are programmed.thats the level of surveillance going on to create conversions..many layers of mal intent. .created by entities who have ideological beliefs that can create great instability..then what do you do? If one is lucky to seive through the programming carefully and rebut accordingly to vicious attacks and counter this programming effectively then it's a fight that's necessary..otherwise. the mind can cave in and take you to a very sad place..no clarity, confusions all the time.etc..its a diffrent age we live in right now. and it's accelerating towards something ....

How to shift from less healthy to healthy is a challenge because of mass media, less free time, and no insight as to how to make it happen. We can listen to Rich Roll all day, but almost no one these days will do what he did to get himself straightened out. Life seems so stressful these days. But truth is we simply handle stress less well than before the 1960s. We did have more time on our hands due to less traffic and way way less people. But we had war and threats against our homeland. Physical movement everyday throughout the day is optimal for the body and brain. It impacts the gut health, which is the home of the immune system and the foundation of how well our bodies and minds work in general. The right food feeds the health of the gut microbiome. Bad food, drugs, and alcohol take that health away. If we only bought whole foods, ate a salad a day before supper and cooked food ourselves, without salt oil or sugar, we'd solve that problem too. Few of us make time for exercise, but it's greatly needed. It's less about athleticism and more about moving more throughout the day. It doesn't hurt to get the heartrate up for 10-15 minutes a day, doing a little manual labor. So Rich Roll overcame his health situation. He got away from substances, a sedentary life style, and learned to be good to himself. He's a heroic figure because he was able to turn his situation around like few do. He pursued athletic endeavors to get back to where he needed to be faster than most of us can. I know because I did something similar, but without the substance challenges he had. I became a distance runner and weight lifter in my late 30s. In my 40s, I had 14% body fat. I ate 3 meals a day no snacks unless it was an apple, carrots, celery...all whole foods, little salt and no sugar. I had an egg, steel-cut oatmeal, veg (cooked plus a salad each day), whole fruit, a small amount of grilled animal protein, almost no bread, dairy, cereals, or sweets. Maybe a little olive oil and vinegar on a salad. Maybe one pat of butter and teaspoon of sour cream on a small baked potato per day. We can all get back to slender fitness and better health if we apply ourselves to it. Just go outside after each meal for a 15 minute walk around the block or parking lot. At work, get up and use the restroom and get water each hour 10-15 minutes. Rich also meditates. So do I...since 1971 regularly. I'm not any better than other people and neither is Rich. We just see the right thing to do and then do it the best way we can manage. And so can anyone else who wants to badly enough. Personally, exercise and meditation are the best ways I know to get my mind free and clear of mass media so I can be still and listen to my heart. I'm not a vegan, but I'd love to be and that could be in my not too distant future. About 80% of my calories come from plants. I'm working on it. I log my food and calories almost every day. I really wish everyone's priority was to help themselves. It would be the best way to help others. We could set an example for our children and family and friends. But only each person can determine what they're willing to do in their life. It matters though so much.❤ If you haven't read Rich's book "Finding Ultra", I recommend it. Of course, my mindset is similar to Rich's, which is to do what's necessary to set your life on the right track and be the best you can be. Best wishes to you if you take the challenge. Life is about not being afraid of doing hard things.. with love.
