How to properly remove the cape skin from a deer head that has been tube-skinned. This method is the preferred way in which to remove a cape for mounting, especially on thin skinned animals where minimal sewing will reduce the chance of visually seeing the seam on the finished mount. This video may be disturbing to some viewers.

    I saw another comment you stated the color red russet - would you be able to share the rest of the color names and the order that you applied! The silver, gold/green? And what you used to apply the black spots ? Paint and small brush type ? It’s all gorgeous - and I’m just beginning to paint fish !

    Is a reproduction mount cheaper? How much per inch charge?

    • @trinitymountainarts1196
      @trinitymountainarts1196 4 місяці тому

      In most cases, reproductions are more expensive due to the high cost of manufacturing the fish blank. The fish blanks I use run an average of $11.00 per inch, plus shipping cost. That's just to get started. A few taxidermists manufacture their own fish blanks and keep their cost down by a few dollers per inch.

      Sorry for such a late reply. Are you still doing taxidermy work? Haven't spoken to Gregg in years. I have been teaching school for 30 years and plan to retire after one more year. At that point, I will be back into taxidermy almost full time again.

    I have subscribed to your channel. I really enjoyed your painting of the smallmouth bass snd the use of powder to clor your fishin the painting process. At the present time I am trying to learn this process. Can you tell me where I can purchase the different powdered pigments in large bottles at on line. I would appreciate your help in this matter. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and skills in fish taxidermy and the use of powdered pigment in the painting of the smallmouth bass..

    The only good paint job is one that makes the fish look very realistic. Your finished result is spot-on. That said, I wish you would include some more of the detail work, like tipping. A brief demonstration of how you tip and a comment on how long it took you would be appreciated. You don't need to divulge all your secrets (and let's face it, the details are what makes the difference), but big-picture procedures, such as tipping, are not secret. I assume you started this channel to educate interested parties like myself. Give us a more complete picture, please.

    Because you mentioned Rick Krane, I went to his website and downloaded a video for a fish I carved. It was, as you said it would be, super helpful. That said, I learned some good things from you and having caught a few winter steelhead, I can say your reproduction is excellent. It looks very real, and that is the goal, isn't it!

    How did you get that ruffled look on the bordering?

    • @trinitymountainarts1196
      @trinitymountainarts1196 Рік тому

      I use a tool that cuts the felt with a patterned edge. Think they still sell them at Vandykes Taxidermy supply. After the two felt layers are sewn together, I ruffle the edges, by hand, around the feet and head.

      All the taxidermist needs is the length, and weight of your fish. We can get an approximate by looking at a photo if you have no measurements.

    • @trinitymountainarts1196

      Lightly dust with a hair dryer set to cold air. Don't apply any cleaners or spray on cleaners. Handle the mount with caution- quills can break off easily. If the mount should need extensive cleaning, contact your local taxidermist. Hope this helps
