Not everything is pay. Conditions are important. Crop harvesting should be taking place in the early mornings and evenings: folks should not have to push through mid-day in triple digit weather. Housing is huge and on site housing could make a split schedule possible. I have seen footage of farm workers being dusted by a crop duster while they work in the fields. Outrageous! So conditions are partly bad because illegals with no voice are easy to abuse so now no one else wants to do it. But back too housing, I have heard a story of a winery foreman living in a nice trailer on the vineyard property and the vineyard getting heavily fined for this. Also farm hands in other abusive sub-legal dwelling. The regulations suck. They are not protecting anyone and just open the door for more exploitation.
